***OMT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Liverpool***

Think there's a lot of positives to take from that game.

Painful to concede 6. Painful to get back into the game and then later on almost back into the game and then quickly concede again. Not a fun game for us as fans. But us being clearly second best against a team that good with the issues we currently have with fatigue and injuries is hardly a surprise.

Move on.

One of the absolute certainties you’ll hear from every fan base when things are going wrong is “put in the kids instead of these overpaid tossers. At least they’ll play for the badge.”

As sure as night follows day…
That's the thing people forget - we already are playing the kids.
Gray, Spence, Dragusin, Bergvall, Johnson are all 23 or below.
Kulu only 24, Porro 25.

Sky described Dragusin as an experienced defender - he isn't, even if looks like a 35 barista from Shoreditch that rides an e-scooter

I disagree, I'm very much in favour of the clubs approach on our summer signings for the future - we needed older heads as well - maybe I am bias

But fans tend to get behind youth teamers.
Do you go to games?
I’ve very much behind it too
But ima ways about the bigger picture and I can see the plan
We need ag last two more windows before I think we will be 90% there
But…
Our fan base are demanding it all now and blaming ange
I’ve seen people talk about how we naively attacked when chasing the game
I’ve seen people say the full backs are in the wrong place forgetting that for the first goal they were in a line and it was a great cross and header that did the damage
It’s the same old crap TBH
and boring
If fans expected us to play pool with the current available players and do anything different then they should not watch us for the next 6 months. All the limited coaching time will be about the buyer picture and developing the team. It’s not gonna be short term for one game, one game against a team we always wet the bed against

Which is key. They've been able to do that all season. Hardly had a anyone out all season. We've had play the same 13-14 players two games a week for months. They're fighting, but it's not a level playing field.
Pool made 7 changes from mid week
Chelsea did the same against us
Neither team is kissing anyone of note really and when they have an injury it’s one player at a time
That’s partly why they are where they are

True. But we also haven't helped ourselves with the choices we do have

As I have said multiple times this season we will hammer a few teams but almost any well set up team can adapt and play against us. As has been pointed out if it wasn`t for some teams poor finishing we could have conceded a lot more this year. We literally cough up lots of chances to almost everyone we play. I could give sxamples from every game we play but wont bore everyone with the obvious. So as of today we sit 11th in the league, of the teams above us how many would you say have got a better squad than us? 4 or 5? Would you say Fulham Bournemouth Aston Villa or Forest have better players than us. So our position in the league must be down to the manager. We come up against one of our former managers next. His team is 3rd in the table at the moment, are their players that much better than ours? We could well win the game but I know we will not play any differently than in our other 17 games this year. And that is my main gripe with our current manager. IMO we should have dropped our line about 10 to 15 yards today so the most lethal attack in the prem didn`t have so much room in behind all the time because our full backs (Porro especially) was so high up the pitch when we turned over possession. But did our manager change anything?
At least it`s entertaining!!

My main frustration at the moment isn’t that we’re playing too attacking - it’s that our press system looks really flawed at times. Hate the way our wide forward presses their CB, then our FB has to press their FB, then our CB gets dragged out wide to cover our FB. Just like for their third goal today, and just like I’ve seen in every game this season. And in those moments our players always seem to be pressing from miles away after the opponent receives the ball, rather than being right on them before they’ve even received it, like Liverpool did to us today.

Well for example we could have gone 4-2-3-1 with ease.

Solanke

Werner ---- Madison ---- Porro

Gray --- Sarr

Reg ---- Dorrington ---- Dragusin ---- Djed

I would have gone for a more solid midfield.. If not Sarr, then Bissouma.

OK...so you want us to

1) change our style of play
2) put a square peg in a round hole
3) start a player at left-back who is only still with us because we have been for whatever reason unable to sell him for three windows
4) give a full debut at home to a CB who is a right CB

I won't question Gray as I think he can probably adapt to anything; he is a rare talant.

Just making sure I understand what you'd have done...

Good presser. Especially about fans understanding the context we are in. Unless there is some genius manager available Ange needs to be supported and we need to see if he can adapt and improve his skills and get us where we want to be.

I find his obvious upset at being questioned in any way very tiresome - but maybe that’s just me.

When we’re chasing a game they do bomb on
Where were they when pool tool the lead
In the right positions just not doing enough
I’ve read fans today say we should have shut up shop when 3 down…

They were not in the right positions at 2-1 down just before they scored, they were at the other end of the pitch. We’ve just scored and it’s nearly HT, you’re vulnerable, just be fudging sensible. Again, that’s nothing to do with injuries, that’s how ANGE sets up the team.

Well, you said an example of what players would fit a 4-5-1... But I went with a 4-2-3-1... So your expectations would have been a differnt style of play.

It was you who put forward the idea of a different style of play (4-5-1), then go and get snarky when someone does.

Oh and Porro is great going forward, only his defensive duties have been under criticism, moving him forward, is not like getting him playing entirely different role. Bale is an example of this.

And yes, you do play players like Reg, because we have no other left backs, and if he puts in okay performances, he will be easier to sell, rather than letting him rot and walk away on free. Because that is really fecking smart that is.

Sorry, but your entire post was just utter snarky w@nk.

Here was our available side today. It is the same as it was on Thursday, and virtually the same as it was last weekend too.

I keep hearing people like Jamie Carragher, and some here, going on about changing the style right now and being more 'pragmatic'...don't push the FBs high and sit in a mid to low block, attack on the counter.

Can anyone show me who we had available today that would've made that system work? Let alone in our squad?
Have people properly taken stock of the squad we're in the middle of building? With all it's 'future parts' and not much present tense immediacy? It's intent? How those players play? Pedro is not a great defender, so seeing him in a deeper sitting back four doesn't fill me with confidence. Anything inviting pressure onto these players right now is not a good fit for fatigue, let alone having to change the way we play after 18 months to try and snaffle a few points which such 'pragmatism' might still not help us achieve? WHERE are the reinforcements we can call upon to helpo us adjust to a more 'pragmatic' style of play? Does it really make sense -as the highest scorerrs in the league- to try and play a counter-attacking game when we're starting with Sonny and Deki?

Again, happy to have the discussion, but please note, this squad has been built for a style, and the manager has not been given reinforcements in key areas that he requested. BTW, Vicario would've save at least two of those goals today. We cannot go until even January 7th without getting a proper keeper in behind Vic...

In this system both full backs bomb forward which inevitably leaves us short at the back because the midfielders don't cover across like they did in Poch's system, for example.

Sky did a good analysis on the circumstances leading to their third goal just before half time. We had just got back to 2-1 why not keep it tight, go in only a goal down. Instead Spence, a LB surges forward leaving a big gap behind. Dragu then panics trying to cover across and mis times his jump for the header. victims in and score.

That passage of play had nothing to do with injuries or tiredness. It was poor game management pure and simple. And it is suicidal playing like that against victims. I like Ange but shrugging your shoulders and saying "that's the way it is mate" is irritating.

Spot on and I’m still yet to see anyone defending Ange actually address this and answer the question why we never change or manage the game depending on the situation. It’s just the fans fault for being toxic or injuries. No one ever addresses why we’re always so gung ho. Almost like they take their queue from Ange I.e. we’re a work in progress, we’re entertaining, we score loads so it’s ok that we concede loads also. We’d need Emirates Marketing Project’s team to challenge the top honours with Ange’s system.
