I've said this all along. We haven't suddenly forgot how we played at the end of last season, it's just that it's tiring and it's a long season.
We lost it tonight because of the midfield and in general has been our poorest area this season.
If they do sit in front of the defence then the WBs need to get forward and the midfield needs to cover the centre of defence allowing the outside CBs to cover the WBs if moves break down.
We lost because United played with much, much higher intensity and press. They were relentless in their press, and when players get pressed hard, by multiple players, even very good players make mistakes, or lose the ball and look average. Only the absolute best manage to handle that sort of press, and even they will not be able to handle it an entire game without mistakes. But they didn’t sit in front of the defence
They were all over the place but there
Hence why they could shoot at will

Also physical condition has nothing to do with the fact that the basic passing and football has been awful. If anyone honestly believes Conte sets us up to put out such limp performances against the big boys because there’s a World Cup coming up then I would politely disagree….Apparently we have run more than any team so far this season - not sure how that ties in with conserving energy
Conte has been good for us, and has loads of credit in the bank, and I am totally behind him, however he totally dropped the ball yesterday, he really fcuked up in the way he managed that match.
All of us could see the goal coming and the fact that he failed to make any changes until we were 2:0 down was diabolical. Yesterday's performance was reminiscent of our second half performance in the 3:5 defeat at the Lane against Utd. Utd were all over us and Hoddle did nothing. He did nothing at 3:1, he did nothing at 3:2 and he did nothing at 3:3. Glen Hoddle waited until we were losing 3:4 before he made his first change. Like yesterday, it was too little too late.
Yes, the midfield stood off them around our box and in general. There were numerous times they got to the edge of our box and had no player within 5 yards of them.We lost because United played with much, much higher intensity and press. They were relentless in their press, and when players get pressed hard, by multiple players, even very good players make mistakes, or lose the ball and look average. We didn't press them at all, and when players are given all the time in the world, even average players look good. We allowed them to play exactly like they wanted, without any press. That's why we lost. If we had done the same to them, they'd look worse than average.
But when you allow decent to good players, like they have, to have all the time in the world, and let them have a go, uncontested, 20+ times in the first half alone, you are asking for trouble!
No. He's more of the same.Really not sure Skipp is the answer. We need creativity in that position. Does Skipp provide that? Is he any more creative than Hojbjerg or Bentancur?
No. He's more of the same.

How have Arsenal gone from bottling 4th to being a title contender? How have we gone from getting 4th to looking more likely to finish 6th? Both clubs appeared to spend well in the transfer window and yet in terms of expectations and performances we are now miles apart with them having left us in their dust.
Don't forget they have had the absolute easiest opening run of fixtures ever known in the PLHow have Arsenal gone from bottling 4th to being a title contender? Spurs at home being one of them….Don't forget they have had the absolute easiest opening run of fixtures ever known in the PL
Yep and every year they beat us at home and we beat them at homeSpurs at home being one of them….

One club has a number of fast attacking creative players and the other does not. We played 3 in midfield and none of them are known for their creativity. Sure they can occasionally asset a goal, but creativity is not their stock-in-trade and therein lies the rub.
I guess we'll see if we go back again for ZanioloQuestions were asked in the summer as to why we didn’t buy a creative midfielder. It’s a gaping hole in our team, so why with a Director of Football, increased transfer spending available (the £150m) and an ambitious manager who wanted ro spend did we not fill that void.
