LW wise in the medium term we have Odobert, Moore and potentially Richy so I'm less bothered about getting another LW in until we see how they perform.I’d say it’s a big priority considering we’re playing with 1 left footer many games
We have no players on the left who will use their left foot for passing and crossing
It’s why a left winger is key for more over a right
And a left back
TrueLW wise in the medium term we have Odobert, Moore and potentially Richy so I'm less bothered about getting another LW in until we see how they perform.
On the right we Johnson who just isn't it, Kulu but he's better and more useful in the centre and I guess Yang but we have no idea his actual level so I'd argue that RW is much more important than left.
Besides the likelihood is whoever we brought in on the left would be a rightie anyway so it doesn't really change the number of left footers in the side.
Spence has been effective cover/rotation. And there’s two more as backup. Gray and Spence need games and both are of a high enough quality imo.Which underlines why we'll struggle to do anything decent.
The only player who has a skillset that would allow us to play in a similar way if a fullback is missing is Spence covering Porro. We don't have a single left sided full back with similar characteristics to Udogie.
Sounds obvious but LB is one position, midfield two, so that list is effectively divided by two.Proper competition for Udogie is essential this summer. A short term option in the interim would be sensible.
We do indeed have a lack of strength in midfield. However, if we stop using Gray as "right back cover" perhaps we can get him into the midfield add quality there? I'd also be an advocate for us signing Luiz on loan from Juventus to strengthen our midfield, just as I'd like us to strengthen our left back options by signing Chilwell on loan. Two players who know all about the PL and could hit the ground running.
It's strange as you talk about us having a lot of options at left back but say that we are light in midfield, yet we have a whole bunch of options in midfield (Gray, Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr, Maddison, Bergvall). At left back we have only one in the whole squad of the required quality and he is out injured (and I think out for a reasonably considerable time).
To be fair, they are.....ITK COYS reckons we are still trying hard, but can't give details blah blah. I'm not gonna post it
It’s the daily mail, it’s almost certainly complete BSYes lets get one of the worlds slowest defenders to play in the highest high line in the world. Makes perfect sense.
I saw a post from a fan in Denmark who said he was shocked that this guy got a move to Serie A as he was nothing special. Even after reading that I would still gamble on him ahead of Skriniar lol
I remember when we were looking at Skriniar to partner Ledley, but we signed Dawson from Forest instead.
I'm not convinced that we can take the gamble.Profile fit is more important than PL experience imo.
Bentancur, Kulusevski, VdV, now Kinsky. All settled in quickly and started performing.
I share your concern about more injuries, not quite to expecting relegation, but would be a massive issue.
Hopefully we'll see quite a few players back in the next couple of weeks. But some games in that period and another 2-3 injuries could mean still being really short on numbers/options.
They tried to get him in the summer and were quite close to doing so.West Ham table 57m bid for Jhon Duran. Seems a weird move if initiated by his team….unless they are trying to use it as bait to get another team to bid.
Maybe he’s looking for a starting role.
Yeah, loans can be different but they're not cheap. It's like renting instead of buying a house. The loan fees, signing on fees and salaries can be crazy. It sounds the safe option, but isn't always.
Disagree completely. A short term option allows us to bring in a long term option in the summer when players are more readily available.
Indeed Gray can play right back but, at present, he is having to play centre back. His long term position should also be central midfield.
We can do long term thinking in the summer. Right now we need some players who can come in and hit the ground running. You can see how fatigued our players are from the performances.
Further to this is the unforgivable fact that our fantastic 'football directorship' let it get to this. We saw what we lacked in the summer. We then saw in November what was happening. And now we are in a place where every single club who has anyone available nows we're desperate and that means we'll have to overpay to get anyone in , short-term loan or otherwise. I've seen people bitching that Rashford 'is brick', etc. If we could get him in for a 6 month loan tomorrow with no obligation to buy i.e. come here, put yourself in the summer window and do your tuff, I'd snap yiur hand off. Short-term. It won't happen, but that's what we need. Saving that, why are we not in for a loan of Ferguson at Brighton? Poor form of late but has Prem experience and offers us what we need from a 9, plus allows us to not break Richy in three games? The truth is (IMO) they've lost faith in Ange and are letting him bleed out slowly.
It's who we are mate!
Explain to me what that loan would look like. Loan fee, signing on fee, salary etc.
The Bale loan was extortionate from what I remember.
Utd don't need to do us any favours.
I don't think it'd be on the cards FWIW.
Yes, the Bale fee was, but someone like that walking in now would (IMO) be the jolt we need. I think we need to be prepared to spend up to 10 mill on a significant short term loan or two. Given that it would cost 13 mill they say to sack Ange, and given that we are now where we are (IMO partly because of some poor decsions from summer on) and I'd rather roll the dice that way than spend 13 mill to get rid of someone mid-season with noting in return save an empty chair. Honestly? I think it is absurd I am even thinking about Rashford as he is NOT what we need long-term. But this is no longer a long-term season, this is a 'get to the summer' season.
Anyone seeing this Buonanotte link? Seems like he's been touted as leaving Leicester, going back to Brighton then on to us. Not sure how that works with number of clubs in one season.
Also, Buonanotte means good night. Not a great omen!
