The transfer thread

A LB doesn't seem a priority at all. Udoggie, Davies, Spence, Regulion all decent LBs.

Far more vital is midfield imo. Getting Bentancur back would be massive. But we are lacking quality in the middle. Another attacker would be welcome too.

It is just not a priority. Davies is fine covering LB, he played there most of his career. Spence has been doing extremely well there - one of our best players! We're not even using Regulion! And Udogie to come back from injury. It is one position, not like midfield where there are two births to fill. Why would we sign someone else at LB! Makes no sense.

Would agree with both posts, we have far bigger prioitys then another LB.

But Ange only plays Udogie there. He clearly doesn't rate Reg, and Davies is past the time of being able to play LB.
Both these players have been played at LB by Ange so these statements aren’t true.
So you're really only talking Udogie and now Spence since he's broken into the side. Spence is also the cover for RB which he isn't currently able to do (and should be doing, because Porro is shagged). So yeah, another LB is kind of necessary.

Gray is also the cover for Porro.

Davies and Reggie are 3rd and 4th choice, they don’t need to be of higher quality.

Amazed fans think a LB is a priority! When we have such a lack of strength in midfield. For me midfield is crying out for another player. For me: only Bentancur is good enough and his form can be patchy, when fit. It’s a huge hole in our squad imo, and there are two midfield positions.

I don't think it's a number 1 priority. A starting quality RW is and then potentially a DM depending on what's happening with Gray and how well he might fit there but I do think a LB is something we need.

I'd like to see Spence on the right, I believe he would give more defensive solidity than Porro and no great drop off offensively (right now Porro is poor offensively so it would likely be an improvement). But we can't do that because Spence is tasked with covering for Udogie's I hurt right now. If Ange played Reg I wouldn't be saying this but he's clearly demonstrated he doesn't rate him because he's barely played him and is playing a right foot who progress the ball because he has to keep turning inside over him.

I’d say it’s a big priority considering we’re playing with 1 left footer many games
We have no players on the left who will use their left foot for passing and crossing
It’s why a left winger is key for more over a right
And a left back

A left back that fits in short and long term makes sense. Short term cover less so. Spence is doing well. Gray too can play right back.

Several positions where the right addition could be very useful. More important that it's the right player that fits well into the system and both short and long term thinking than what position/role he plays in.
Disagree completely. A short term option allows us to bring in a long term option in the summer when players are more readily available.

Indeed Gray can play right back but, at present, he is having to play centre back. His long term position should also be central midfield.

We can do long term thinking in the summer. Right now we need some players who can come in and hit the ground running. You can see how fatigued our players are from the performances.

Just because someone can play there
It doesn’t mean they should
Son can play CF… hell he could even play CB but neither works
We have to stop thinking of players for their flexibility and think about what they are good at
If it's a short term cover kind of signing that doesn't make sense long term I'm assuming that player wouldn't be particularly good either. Do a decent job kind of player. We already have those in the squad for full back roles once we get our centre backs back.

We have to fix problems in the transfer market to move forward. A lack of long term planning is the main reason for many of our issues in recent years.

I hope we sign a player or two, I think we should. I'd want anyone in any position that actually properly fixes any problem in the squad short and medium-long term. That's more important than what position they play imo.

If that isn't possible, sure, bring in some decent short term cover. But again doesn't have to be a specific position.

Short term we lose another left when Ben leaves
That leaves us with VDV, Kulu and….
It’s a massive problem that team target
I’ll pick on Maddison. Everyone knows he will always pass left if he can because he left foot is rarely used. It’s a one dimensional option then

I agree we really could do with another player or two. Just don't think left back is a particular priority.

Anywhere in the back line or front line would essentially be useful. Or a #10.

If we can't get players that fit medium to long term and a good enough short term option is possible for a loan deal, sure. But that's not what I'd primarily like to see. And even then a full back isn't a particular priority. Would be one good choice out of several.

Which underlines why we'll struggle to do anything decent.

The only player who has a skillset that would allow us to play in a similar way if a fullback is missing is Spence covering Porro. We don't have a single left sided full back with similar characteristics to Udogie.

Proper competition for Udogie is essential this summer. A short term option in the interim would be sensible.

We do indeed have a lack of strength in midfield. However, if we stop using Gray as "right back cover" perhaps we can get him into the midfield add quality there? I'd also be an advocate for us signing Luiz on loan from Juventus to strengthen our midfield, just as I'd like us to strengthen our left back options by signing Chilwell on loan. Two players who know all about the PL and could hit the ground running.

It's strange as you talk about us having a lot of options at left back but say that we are light in midfield, yet we have a whole bunch of options in midfield (Gray, Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr, Maddison, Bergvall). At left back we have only one in the whole squad of the required quality and he is out injured (and I think out for a reasonably considerable time).

Chilwell. A good player, with experience of the PL. Not cheap in terms of wages but could drop straight into this team and improve us.

Spence has done really well at left back and is much more similar to Udogie in playing style than he is to Porro.

Would be a perfectly adequate short term option. Third choice behind Udogie and Spence at LB, but as you say would make Spence available to play RB more.

One of several short term options that could make sense. But our main aim should be to actually fix an actual problem. Like we've seemingly done with Kinsky.

He’d probably Get injured walking trough the door at Hotspur way though.
Seems to me that every player at the club already is getting injured. We need players who don't need time to adapt to PL football. Imagine if we get two or three more injures in the next few of games? I honestly would expect us to get relegated if that happens to us. We need players coming in with experience of this league.

The fact that he is a natural on that side would have him ahead of Spence IMO.

We can fix long term problems in the summer when those problems can typically actually be fixed. At present we need to ensure that we get to the summer without being forced into a massive fire sale due to the threat of bankruptcy due to relegation.

Profile fit is more important than PL experience imo.

Bentancur, Kulusevski, VdV, now Kinsky. All settled in quickly and started performing.

I share your concern about more injuries, not quite to expecting relegation, but would be a massive issue.

Hopefully we'll see quite a few players back in the next couple of weeks. But some games in that period and another 2-3 injuries could mean still being really short on numbers/options.
