The transfer thread

It is just not a priority. Davies is fine covering LB, he played there most of his career. Spence has been doing extremely well there - one of our best players! We're not even using Regulion! And Udogie to come back from injury. It is one position, not like midfield where there are two births to fill. Why would we sign someone else at LB! Makes no sense.
It's only not a priority because this club values having a tiny wage bill over anything else.

Spence needs to be rotating with Porro on the right hand side.

We can sign 3 further players into our PL squad without dropping anyone. We can sign 4 further players if we drop one of the 5 goal keepers we have in the squad right now.

At present we could be sleepwalking our way to relegation. We only need another couple of injuries or a few setbacks to those injured already and we'll be struggling even more.

If there is even a sniff of players like Chilwell (or Luiz, or Rashford) being avaiable on loan then we should be in there. We desperately need players who are men and not boys, even more so ones who already know what it means to play premier league football.

LB is a total priority. Davies and Reggie walk away in a few months, and big clubs should have their replacement in place before that ever happens. Spence needs to be sharing duties on the other side so we can keep this squad fresh. Also, there are no big bets from the academy to step up into that role.

Just like we did with Kinsky, we should be adding the quality now.

In which case we're missing a trick. Udogie injured, Davies just back from injury and really a centre back in our system now, Spence you can see is severely limited due to being right footed (and I think we need him on the right hand side at the moment) and Regulion simply not good enough as he has proven for several years at Spurs.

Chilwell is available on loan and would be a really good player to bring in for 6 months IMO. Though I suppose it might put our wages at 45% of turnover KPI/OKR at risk.
A left back that fits in short and long term makes sense. Short term cover less so. Spence is doing well. Gray too can play right back.

Several positions where the right addition could be very useful. More important that it's the right player that fits well into the system and both short and long term thinking than what position/role he plays in.

I'm not sure there is really a plethora of talent at left back in the championship.

The best left back is probably Harrison Burrows at Sheffield United. I think he'd do a decent job in the premier league at present.

The most promising for a longer term view is probably Lucas Pires at Burnley. However, he is still incredibly raw and IMO at least 18 months' away from being ready for PL football.

It is not a priority because 1. we have ample players for the position. 2. much greater pressing needs (midfielder, CB and attackers).

Yes and when Udogie is back I am sure he will. Spence hasn't played all that many games. We also have Gray who was rotating with Porro. Ample cover.

We are missing both CBs. Both midfielders, and a host of attackers. Yet you'd upgrade a position we have at least 4 players for, 3 of whom are fit?

The lack of a left back over anywhere else ok the pitch really bothers me
It’s not a new issue and it’s recurring one
Spence has been great but we actually eBay him roasting with Porro so we see the best of those two
It’s a really bad bad miss by the recruiting team

Just because someone can play there
It doesn’t mean they should
Son can play CF… hell he could even play CB but neither works
We have to stop thinking of players for their flexibility and think about what they are good at

Well, well, well.....let's see how much 'pulling power' the board are prepared to exert.
I mean, we are more attractive than Man Utd give their brickshow, right? Right??

Manchester United are both willing to pay bigger transfer fees and wages than we are. They then have the historical big club element goring for them. Hell even with how dog brick they've been (and they absolutely have been) they are actually ahead of us in the table currently.

Who would you sign for if given the choice between the two clubs?

A LB doesn't seem a priority at all. Udoggie, Davies, Spence, Regulion all decent LBs.

Far more vital is midfield imo. Getting Bentancur back would be massive. But we are lacking quality in the middle. Another attacker would be welcome too.
But Ange only plays Udogie there. He clearly doesn't rate Reg, and Davies is past the time of being able to play LB. So you're really only talking Udogie and now Spence since he's broken into the side. Spence is also the cover for RB which he isn't currently able to do (and should be doing, because Porro is shagged). So yeah, another LB is kind of necessary.
