The Right Back Thread

Fabrizio Romano reporting Trippier to Saudi Sportswashing Machine as a done deal.

Think he would have been alright for us, makes me somewhat positive that we have a good plan for something better in place.

Maybe, but I've always suspected that our transfer policy will remain the Levy preference for younger players with scope for improvement, whilst also spending more per Conte's wish. In theory, Levy should be fine with spending more if its on younger players who's values will either be retained or go up.

Signing 31 year old has never felt likely IMO, even less so say 28 year olds

There are several options for us there
But there all gonna cost £30m upwards unless we gamble
We've spent £50m plus on Aurier/Doherty/Royal in the last few years
Let's get a decent RWB who might cost more but will be the answer for a good few years

If they stay fit of course
And royal was brought to play RB
We have an issue with conte now in that he needs his player which means investment but his contract ain’t long enough for it…

I keep saying it in every thread but Corona at Porto is out of contract in the Summer.... Better than just about all the other suggested options and him being Mexican should appeal to Levy in terms of increasing our Social media following.

Another good option would be the Uruguayan, Nahitan Nandez from Cagliari. He is a specialist right midfield player (though can play in several positions). Tenacious, brave, loves a tackle, can beat a player, is good on the ball, uses both feet, is quick (especially over the first few yards) and has a good delivery. Most importantly for a wing back though he has lots of stamina and makes lots of sprints in a game. £15 to £20m gets him I reckon and he would immediately be first choice as a RWB (at which point I would consider moving Royale to RCB).

I can’t comment as I’ve never seen Jesus play
But I really like Maehle at Atalanta
Another who can play both sides and is a machine physically

Talk is we’re loaning wolves Doherty which seems odd to me as we would want £££

Yes. Maehle is indeed a good player. Wouldn't Atalanta want a big fee for him though?
Regarding Doherty, I wonder whether it is another case of Levy doing everything he can not to show book losses on players? Doherty would still be valued at £9m on our books and I can't see a club paying that for him and taking on his £65k a week wages. If that is the case then I'd be disappointed that we haven't moved away from that way of operating now that we have the stadium built and funded.

The fact that we may be prepared to loan Doherty out despite him getting a fair few games for us recently hopefully indicates that we have somebody lined up to come into the squad to play/cover at wing back though.

Doherty going would be good for him
We buy a rwb and play him rb and expect him to perform
Then we play a rwb system and play him left…
The guys doomed here
Maehle would cost big money but he is that good a player. He would be elite for us and would be talked about like Romero IMO.

I’m not sure how much the club will commit to conte whilst he hasn’t committed long term to the club

The football side of our club doesn't appear to be run particularly well.... We settle for a cheap manager in the summer, buy him an expensive right back and left winger, then sack him to bring in a great manager, but one who is wedded to playing with a back 3 and wing backs that immediately renders those two expensive summer players as ineffective.

Regarding your last sentence, I think it works the other way.... I'm not sure how much Conte will commit to the club whilst the club haven't committed to him (i.e. buy him the players he wants). Conte is definitely the very best manager we could ever hope to get. If the club doesn't commit to him with a large transfer budget then he will walk and things will get ugly I think.

It 100% works the other way too as you say

We were rumoured to be interested in him a few months ago iirc

Ooh I Like Nandez. I remember being impressed by him at the last World Cup I think and a few games I've seem him. Seems to have energy to run and down the wing all day and has really good delivery from what I recall. Good left field pick. [emoji1531]
