After that first half an hour I'm not too disappointed with the result. With Sissoko on from the start and Son using his speed I think they can be got at.
Come on you Spurs!

Too little, too little, too late. :(

Ah, well.

Ironically, that our squad limitations are only showing this far in is a testament to Poch's wondrous skill. To do what he's done, with the sh*t available to him, is phenomenal. But, honestly, the summer and January should be case studies in stress testing - in deliberate neglect, because you know you can. You know you have had a tiring summer, know players are injured, know the backups are all crap...and you do nothing. You even sell a first-team midfielder, just to worsen the stress, and *still* sign no one.

This might be the closest we'll ever get to the big stage, and our utterly cheapskate ways and squad limitations might doom us at the death. Ironic.

I hope Jan's okay. That's my big takeaway today.

I hope he's okay.

Other than that, we tried hard. I'm mildly hopeful for next week, because Son will be back, but it's an almost Herculean task, because they will score again. We need to score at least 3.

And we didn't even look like scoring one, so, what can you do. I hope. But that's it.

Hard to be critical of anyone tonight - they gave it absolutely everything. Trippier, Wanyama, Lucas, Llorente...they're poor players, playing poorly, but my GHod, did they try their hearts out.

As Poch says, they're heroes.

I just wish they were better footballers. :(

I said they had by far the cleaner chances. Our headed openings were half chances. If we're honest, Ajax should have been 2 to the good. Which is great news for us. All to play for.
I just saw quick highlights. Hugo had ONE save to make and they didn't show any more CLEAR chances. And those two headers were more like 3/4-8/10's chances, not 1/2 chances.

The more I think about how poor we were for large parts of that game, the happier I feel about the result. We are still well in the tie.

We need Son to come back and be a terminator. Sissoko from the start is a must. And no Llorente please.

We were absolute sh1t, all we had was hoof to Llorente and their keeper barely had a save to make. Not one player can honestly say they had a good game for us.

At least in the 2nd half, we made a scrap of the game, but still very lucky not to go 0-2 down when they hit the post. They saw out the game for the 0-1 win.

We might yet do something in the away game, but we're going to have to play so much better. Son for Llorente, press from the front. We're only 1 down, maybe we can get the first goal early and make them sh1t the bed.

Sissoko was brilliant. We did play too many long balls and it’s very disappointing but we’re still on the game.

Personally think Poch got the team wrong but, fudge me, he’s trying to play a desperately bad hand as best he can.

Still in it.

What's a little bit annoying though, is commentators pushing the "we didn't buy anyone" narrative when the real issue for our poor bench is our injuries and suspensions.

Sissoko and Wanyama were basically regarded as our fourth and fifth choice CM at the start of the season. We miss our two top scorers. How many teams have three world class goalscorers? We have Lamela out, who would likely be on the bench with Moura - that's not too shabby for a non financially doped club.

I can't recall us being so unlucky with injuries since that time in the 90s/00s when we had 17 first squad members out injured at the same time.

This season is freakish though, the injuries just keep coming like a bloody tsunami!

Dele in midfield has to stop. One can't help but regret Spurs missing key players. Dembele was built for this game.

PS Our full backs need to learn how to cross. Horrible crosses.
What is he supposed to do. We know Dele, Eriksen and Moura thrive when they receive good passes into dangerous areas in the final third. Trippier, Rose, Sanchez, Wanyama delivered just about precisely none of those passes. I thought Moura did alright, but was almost always receiving the ball facing the wrong way with at least one player marking him tightly with another to cover.

We looked our most threatening from set pieces and long balls, the occasional turnover... Winks being out is imo as consequential as the other players missing. Can we live with him being that important because so many other players can't play through pressure with any level of consistency?

Yes you are right actually, Sissoko did play well.

Considering first half it's great to be in the tie still.

I don't think there were any performances out there that were surprising, however, the crowd that's gonna totally deflate and give nothing once we concede? Big time disappointing.

.

What do you call Sissoko's contribution? Danny Rose was half decent as well.

Wanyama - fudging waste of space
