Trippier was garbage again tonight . Can’t have him at all. I’d sell him in a heartbeat !

Trippier has been garbage for 2/3rds of his Spurs career now. Only people who couldn't see it were those who thought an above-par World Cup, losing to a country with a population smaller than Birmingham's in the semi-finals, suddenly made him a world-class player.

It didn't. He's about Burnley level, playing for Spurs. That's it. He admits it, to his credit, but he's still utterly crap.

Too little, too little, too late. :(

Ah, well.

Ironically, that our squad limitations are only showing this far in is a testament to Poch's wondrous skill. To do what he's done, with the sh*t available to him, is phenomenal. But, honestly, the summer and January should be case studies in stress testing - in deliberate neglect, because you know you can. You know you have had a tiring summer, know players are injured, know the backups are all crap...and you do nothing. You even sell a first-team midfielder, just to worsen the stress, and *still* sign no one.

This might be the closest we'll ever get to the big stage, and our utterly cheapskate ways and squad limitations might doom us at the death. Ironic.

I hope Jan's okay. That's my big takeaway today.

I hope he's okay.

Other than that, we tried hard. I'm mildly hopeful for next week, because Son will be back, but it's an almost Herculean task, because they will score again. We need to score at least 3.

And we didn't even look like scoring one, so, what can you do. I hope. But that's it.

Hard to be critical of anyone tonight - they gave it absolutely everything. Trippier, Wanyama, Lucas, Llorente...they're poor players, playing poorly, but my GHod, did they try their hearts out.

As Poch says, they're heroes.

I just wish they were better footballers. :(
They score 1, we score 2 and we’re through

What's a little bit annoying though, is commentators pushing the "we didn't buy anyone" narrative when the real issue for our poor bench is our injuries and suspensions.

Sissoko and Wanyama were basically regarded as our fourth and fifth choice CM at the start of the season. We miss our two top scorers. How many teams have three world class goalscorers? We have Lamela out, who would likely be on the bench with Moura - that's not too shabby for a non financially doped club.

I can't recall us being so unlucky with injuries since that time in the 90s/00s when we had 17 first squad members out injured at the same time.

This season is freakish though, the injuries just keep coming like a bloody tsunami!
Agree but Lamela is a prime example of why we should have invested in the summer. It’s not like him getting injured this season is unexpected, he should have been easily shipped off back to Italy and someone recruited in. It was obvious there was areas of the squad that needed replacing and refreshing and maybe if we had we wouldn’t of got as many injuries as a lot of this squad has now spent a lot of time under Pochs intense training methods and could be taking its toll.....

Yeah, I got that wrong. Sissoko did well (edited my post). Danny had lots of energy but was poor with the ball overall, I wouldn't class that as a good game from him. He had some fight, but didn't show any quality.

Agree. I didn’t think Rose was particularly good tonight. He tried but on the ball he didn’t do much. Sissoko comes out with credit. Foyth too for his short cameo. Other than that? Moura maybe for the first half. Thought Dav was okay after a nervy start.

Bonkers. And they seem to be sheer bad luck rather than stress/overwork injuries.

There seems to be two schools of thought with Rose on the forum, especially of late. I am of the one that sadly considers Rose to be the opposite of a duck on the water, there's a sh!t ton of effort and movement going on to little effect as opposed to calm and considered motion with has meaningful consequence.

Never fun to lose at home, but I'm actually quite hopeful. Ajax are a very good side, but we can beat them. They honestly deserve all the accolades, but fudge that, I hope it gets to their heads. Getting son back will be a massive boost for us. I think we can fudge them over in the second leg. Get a goal and we're in pole position. Ajax have consistently been better away in the CL this season.

Best I’ve seen Llorente play TBF

Sissoko has just changed everything with his energy

I don't think they'll only score 1, though. That first half was murderous.

Murderous maybe. But they still “only” got the one (away) goal.
Apart from the one off the post Hugo wasn’t otherwise massively troubled.
We’ve not made it easy for ourselves but with Son back we can cause them problems. And of course there’s still the chance that Dele might fully switch on.

All it took to shut down their football was Sissoko coming on and getting in their faces. (along with the rest of our team realising they could actually make a fight of the game).

Aye, that's why I'm mildly hopeful. But, just as we will learn what to do about them from that nightmare first half, they will analyze what to do about us, and get better in turn.

It's going to take a miracle. The only reason we might still pull it off is because Poch, Mate Jesus, performed a miracle just to get us here.

Thats my view

If we hit the target more that would have been different

I cannot believe that we won’t with son back

How do they deal with sissoko driving through their midfield? That’s what changed
He nullifies De Jong and it changed the momentum if not the result
