***OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v Expensive Stoke***

Years ago, whenever Spurs played Cheatski, John feckin Terry would stop everything.

Every cross, every shot, every attack, he would be there and stop it.

So annoying. Then later on it was Rudiger, always there, stopping every chance.

Tonight it was Gabriel, he was always the one, he is that good, just like Van Dijk, always in the way, always able to stretch a leg or bundle someone out of the way without giving away a freekick, always able to score even without a shot on target.

We need one of those. Romero is the candidate but I see him as something different.

What's the common denominator? An injury ravaged/knackered/young squad.

Up to the beginning of November, where we got hit by injuries, this was our record:

P: 15
W: 10
D: 1
L: 4
This, this and this.

We were still a work in progress at that time, there were still flaws.

It's not just the first team players that are out, it's the fatigue in the squad as a result of that many injuries for so long.

He has his legitimate excuses for the period since the injuries started however Is it wrong to expect more than relegation form? What happened to rising above adversity? We can't just write off weeks/months of poor results & performances due to injuries. Currently he's doing a shìt job - yes there are reasons and excuses as to why that is the case but it's a shìt job all the same.

I disagree strongly.

Levy goes before he goes. I love Ange. I love his philosophy.

He is spurs. If that bald clam survives him my my love for spurs further diminishes. To the extent I want nothing to do with spurs.

Levy out first. I've had enough.

I will stop supporting spurs if Ange goes first.

It's not like I love spurs more with ange. It's more I hate the bald one. More. I'm done.
Well it looks like you'll be stopping supporting Spurs.

Leadership is a huge issue and question.
I have to say I love a full-blooded 'skipper', however I am not sure whether we buy a leader or continue to develop them. Gray and Bergvall are leaders. Pedro can be one. Maddison isn't IMO...
Is Hojberg out on loan? If so, recalling him would be a positive move in my opinion. I cannot see how his return could possibly weaken the club on the field from a playing perspective, and he’s a far, far better leader than the three that we currently have passing the armband around.

Kulu is the only real leader at the moment. Gray and Bergvall will be. What possessed Ange to make Son and Maddison captains is beyond me. Being popular doesn't mean you are captain material.

I was all for Ange getting till the end of the season but if it means no more of your posts Ange should be sacked this morning.

The repercussions of that decision to rush back our first choice CBs (after only one day’s training in Romero’s case) for the €havski match continue to haunt us.

If at least one of them was still fit then Gray could’ve played at LB for the Wolves match in which Udogie was injured (when Spence was suspended) plus Archie could’ve given Porro a much needed breather at Tamworth too.
It's even more simple. Just play Reggie at LB and Spence at RB. Gives a rest to the starting FBs and utilises the entire squad. Then Gray may have even been able to play in midfield at at earlier point in the season.

Son
Maddison
Romero
In that order move them on as quickly as we can.
Son is finished and Maddison is a highlight reel player and Romero thinks he's too good for us.

I'd keep Son, I think with a bit more rotation he can still do a job and it's worth keeping some experience around. Agree with the other 2, Romero is great on the ball but he's never switched on, always out of position on crosses. He's also someone we could get a decent fee for.

The morning after, having ruminated over night, digested some of the good points made on here and in half the pod that I've listened to here are my observations.

I was never confident going into this game, having watched the arsenal v utd game I couldn't see us getting anything.
Arsenal battered utd and should have won that game at a canter.
It was unlikely they would miss as many again against our patched up defence.
They obviously focused on gray and spence, so much came down that side and they pressed us into that area, possibly even knowing that even if we could play through it, as we did a couple of times, son would be easily robbed of the ball.

Gray, Bergvall and spence were real positives, kulu, Porro and solanke look knackered and this showed in how easy it was to bundle them off the ball.
We were physically bullied tbh, nothing illegal and probably down to our fitness but they were stronger and quicker than us.
Also detest myself for saying this but partey was really good, interesting that Tnt didn’t mention him.

Son, let's hope we can somehow win a cup this season and then let him go in a blaze of glory in the summer, he's done. It's sad watching it but it's true.

There was no leadership in there, kinky should have been getting an ear full about not playing quick enough.

For all that it's a defeat and it hurts they needed some real luck for their goals.

Lastly, can I see whatever game the ref was watching?
He didn’t influence the game but there was some really bizarre stuff out there.
Why did he run out to have a chat with Rice at one of the early corners?
Late on what was the running half the pitch to the ball off Raya and then throwing it back to him all about? Even Raya looked bewildered.

Oh, and really lastly, rice in his interview post match was pretty snidey about us in the collective but full of praise for gray and Bergvall and our youngsters including mikey moore
And rio did make a lot about our injuries and age of the team.

That is absolutely dreadful for a team that should be top 6 or top 8. Jol, Harry, AVB, Poch, Jose, Conte and Nuno were sacked for less.

Sure, at some stage, Levy has to change approach but there is no point doing it if you have a man in charge who is guiding you to mediocrity.

The next few games to Liverpool are huge. If we continue this run and lose that semi final, there’s not much to hang your hat on with Ange.
Not disagreeing with this at all, but by that stage (arguably even now considering we would need well over 2 points per game to get Europe) the season is over anyway in terms of league position - things massively hinge on whether he can win a trophy or not. Might as well wait until end of the season, if Levy in the coming weeks/months decides Ange isn't the man and then he has enough time to properly plan to get the next man in, and getting the best man for the job will be easier in the summer than now unless someone unexpectedly falls into his lap. Or, we get our players back from injury and the last 2/3 months Ange gets the team playing and producing as we all want and then Levy then has a decision to make. Either way, I expect Levy will give him the season now (unless we really do get to relegation scrap territory)...

Two outstanding pieces of defending tonight, both of which could easily have led to own goals.
When you are in the run we are in these incidents never go your way, that's just the way it is.

The injuries are only half of the story though. The other half is that the leftover players are knackered because they've got no rest over the last 6 weeks.
The thing is Ange has had a few opportunities to give the remmaing players a rest and he's chosen not to. That is something we can be critical of because that gamble or decision has backfired.

We have had senior players like Spence and Reggie available and unused for long periods and some of the younger players not yet tried out even for minutes like Lankshear. I respect his decision with the young players because only he knows if they are ready or not but if he wanted or needed to give players a rest he has to call on the squad he has available.
