Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

I suspect that was the case.
I suspect Conte is now focused on going back to Italy - rumours to that effect have around since Nov (?) time? Now we know his health situation.

So it would make sense for him to go in the summer. And we have 6 months to get the right replacement lined up.

I'd be shocked if he's our manager next season.

Makes no sense at all to stick until Summer limping on. Get rid now, give the new manager 6mths to identify what he wants. just wasting 6 months

It's quite possible spence will need longer though, we have no idea what's been perceived as the reason for his not being selected.

Same could be said for Sarr. But it's a bit sink or swim sometimes. Look at Kane, we turned to him when we had little opportunities as Soldado wasn't working. Sometimes the answer is there all along and until you try it, you dont know. Sarr was brilliant vs Arsenal and Milan, but if Conte had his choice he wouldn't be near our starting XI.

Spence may be terrible, may be great, no idea, but not giving him a chance (i.e. Portsmouth) to show us either way is terrible, especially as we just dropped £40M on a new RWB. That £40m could have gone towards a CB this January if we potentially tried Spence and he wasn't terrible.

It makes no sense, and doesn’t fit Levy’s MO, if Conte and Levy were not on the same page he’d have fired him already.

He let Redknapp stay till the end of the season in 2012, even though things had apparently been agreed with AVB off record going back to February time.

Nah, Harry got fired during a meeting which had been scheduled to discuss a contract renewal.

He talked himself out of the job right there and then.

Everytime we want to get rid of a manager (ie every other year), you hear people suggesting to get rid mid-season in order for the new guy to assess the squad. I'm not having a go at you, it's an opinion that's as valid as any, but I disagree. Unfortunately, a manager's lifespan is hardly more than three years nowadays, regardless of the club or results. So these six months aren't exactly 'free'. The new guy will make mistakes, he'll get a few losses and poor performances and some people will start to doubt him. Honestly, it doesn't take much more than that.

That means that when he'll start his first full season, he won't start with a clean slate. Best way to do it, in my opinion, is to get your new guy a couple of days after the season's over and give him all the tools he needs to have a good preseason.

It's more about adjusting the style of play at this next juncture though. For 3.5 years we've been a passive anti-football side. We need to relearn passing and pressing again now by August.

So when Potter gets sacked and Conte inevitably leaves by mutual consent in the summer , do we go for Potter ?

don't see why not. going to chelsea doesn't make him a bad coach. that said i rate tuchel more highly than potter.
i want nagelsmann the most and just to see spurs play push and run football and all the players made to run like hell. since the market is too distorted we might as well just play attacking and extreme pressing football and get my money's worth.

edit: incidentally nagelsmann plays 4231 but is known to operate with 3 CBs too

Umm. Potter wrong fit for them and Jose/ Conte wrong fit for us.
Makes you wonder what these owners / DOF are thinking sometimes.

Not for me. Galtier, gasperini and howe were my choices before we got nuno. If psg get knocked out of the cl i'd go galtier.

Poch is a consideration although i'm a believer of never going back to your ex. The frankfurt coach maybe? They play similar formation.

i am watching the wrexham documentary and love that the owners, actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny leave it to the football folks mostly.
might be staged but they did all the right things e.g. gaining ownership of the stadium to improve it, getting a proven coach and spending money on a striker way beyond their league.
its early days but could go down as a case study for football club owners.

You mean have far more money than anyone else in the league and still finish second?

They are the equivalent of city’s owners in the championship
I like them and what them and enjoy the show but it’s a case study in spending money the club doesn’t have
