Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

We would probably look even worse in a two, that's why. With three on the field, we concede two a game without fail. With two, it would be double figures.

If one of the two is Dier, it would be a cricket score.

Poch, Mourinho, Nuno, Conte - four coaches from all possible ends of the spectrum all struggled to get a consistent tune out of this lot, because the same brick played all the time. Dier. Davies. Sanchez.

They still play now, we still struggle as a result (although Sanchez, to be fair to him, was not too bad today). No coach is going to turn this brick into a quality team relative to our opponents. We simply need better players across the field.

Mourinho & Nuno were terrible appointments and would have failed regardless - Pochettino and Conte are 4 (?) apart, we can't keep talking about the squad as though it's the same this far down the line.

Mourinho & Nuno were terrible appointments and would have failed regardless - Pochettino was set back due to the stadium build and lack of quality turnover in the playing squad and Conte is 4 years down the line, we can't keep talking about the squad as though it's the same this far down the line.

It isn't the same squad, but it is the same players letting us down for the most part.

Dier, Davies, Sanchez have been here across all four managers, and have let all of them down at various points.

Our squad building has not prioritized getting them all out the door fast enough, and we are suffering for it.

They're not the only ones struggling this season in particular - Royal, Sonny, Sess, Doherty and Lloris have all struggled too. But they are the ones emblematic of our acceptance of mediocrity.

Agreed on Mourinho and Nuno, though. Dark period for the club.

2 of the 3 players you mention there didn't start today - it's just an easy thing to blame afaic

And Dier did - gave away a goal and looked terrible, as usual.

A refrain that has occurred continuously this season. Before him, Sanchez was a bombscare last season. Davies has been consistently mediocre throughout.

Playing any of them is a grim reminder of how far standards have fallen from Toby-Jan.

The same can be said for any position on the pitch bar 2 or 3, but new signings that aren't good enough don't seem to carry the same blame that some people want to put on older players

Has Davies ever let us down? Been fairly solid in most games and can’t remember many clangers like Dier and Sanchez have made regularly.

Dier didn’t give away a goal
He gave away a corner

We talk about fine margins at this level. That’s it. He put us under really needless pressure. It was brainless and amateurish and what happened after doesn’t take away his responsibility for that goal.

Who would that be? Lenglet had a decent game. Can't be talking about Kulusevski. Doherty, maybe. Perisic good. Hojbjerg generally okay. Biss has only been here a few months.

Obvious failures like Royal are called out pretty regularly, so can't be him. Who's getting away without blame?

More broadly, since Paratici came in, more signings have succeeded than failed - Romero, Kulu, Bentancur, Perisic, with jury still out on Richy, Biss, Forster and Lenglet, and an obvious failure in Royal.

Clangers, no. Just mediocrity in the main. He makes few obvious errors, but his aura of reliability covers up a lot of his shortcomings, like getting blazed past by anyone with a bit of pace, and being caught out of position a lot.

He spanked his touch out of play
10 others had a Chance to defend the corner as well as him
It wasn’t pressure IMO as it was a basic routine corner just poorly defended

Basically any player signed up until Romero in Paraticis first summer has been a massive downgrade on the peak Poch teams.

Nope. When you give it away as needlessly as Dier, it's all on him. Marginally less direct than his charitable gift to Salah, but only very marginally.
I can imagine Conte going through that goal with the team and what went wrong from the corner and one of the players piping up with "Not my fault boss, it's all Diers for his poor clearance"

Basically any player signed up until Romero.

So, Doc, Hojbjerg, and...Sess? Struggling to think of any others that fit the description.

And of the three, Doc gets plenty of brick, Sess doesn't but is generally acknowledged as a disappointment. So the only one who's getting away with it seems to be Hojbjerg - would that be accurate?

I said there are 2 or 3 players that are any use/comparable to our best years, you then said who would that be - ?

Since clarified in an edited post

Ah, I see. I thought you were talking about players who were getting away with sub-par performances.

Agreed re: those three, but think Perisic also qualifies - only been a few months, but has already looked head and shoulders over every left-back since Rose, from Reggy to Davies to Sess.
