Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Again, I didn’t say we defend well
I’ve also highlighted the main issue, repeatedly
Stop conceding basic crosses and we cut down our goals conceded in half
How we do it, I don’t care. That’s up to players and Ange but it’s worst than Childs football the way we defend simple crosses

I think it’s worse than just being isolated to crosses. We don’t defend well individually or as a unit nor do you ever look at us and think yeah we will keep a clean sheet today. It’s always 3 or 4-1 rather than a 1-0 but you need to be able to win 1 and 2-0.

One of my question marks over Ange is something I really like about him. It's how big picture he is. He doesn't sweat the details.

1. Last year when we had injuries? "It's not ideal but it's fine, injuries happen to everyone"
2. International matches? "It's a great honour for people to play for their country"
3. Subs v Brighton? "Wouldn't have made a difference. We weren't competing"
4. brickhousing? "Don't see the point. Don't know what it is".

It's a brilliant attitude in terms of keeping perspective. However, a lot of winners at this level seem to be detail-oriented to the point of obsession. Would you get the same responses to the above from Fergie, Wenger, Jose, Pep, Klopp or Conte?

I'd love his approach to be successful because I love his ideals and it's everything I believed that football should be when I was growing up. I do wonder though if he's so far out of whack with so many managers who've won at this level that his approach is fatally flawed. That perhaps he'd be better in an "upstairs" role eventually.
I think he is detail oriented. But different details than some other managers perhaps. And he seems quite good at focusing on the details that matter.

Looking how we play, how we press and play through pressure. Looking at how we use the full backs and wingers. How we use our midfielders. I think there's a lot of focus on details there.

But he's not sweating the injuries, internationals or stuff he can't really do much about. I think that's a good thing.

I also think he's trying to instill a different attitude in our squad. And I think his "big picture" and focusing on stuff we can do something about that is part of that.

The desire and attitude of the players has to be right. We have to compete fully and go at every game with full commitment.
That is why we can look so good one week, then look rubbish against the weaker teams.

It is mentality.

True
But that’s all semantics if we deal with those scanrios
If we dealt with basic (not great or amazing) crosses we would have kept a clean sheet vs Lestah, possibly against Brentford (that was a great cross and finish), West Ham, palace.
We wouldn’t have lost vs Brighton
Potentially we wouldn’t have lost vs Ipswich
That’s a big upside in some of those games where we would then be sitting higher
We ain’t there yet but the majority of these goals are so so bad
Address this then you can look at CBs pressing at the half way line when they have no chance of getting the ball which is another recurring them of failure

I've said it before, I don't think Ange really cares about defending properly, just about outscoring them.

I would tend to agree, its either that or they drill defending and these lot are just failing spectacularly at understanding it, cos honestly its like its brand new information for them whenever they concede....the EXACT same goal every week.
