Must admit, I don’t want Akanji

We’re supposed to be competing with City, not buying their unwanted thirty-somethings

Our scouts need to be spotting the next Akanji. He was a steal for them and has been fantastic for few seasons. He wasn’t young when they bought him either.
He’s a quality, cheap player to add to the CB pool for right now, we’ve got loads of potential there in Vuskovic, Dragusin, Takai already. Honestly this is a no brainer if he’s available and we actually feel we need another body in there.

How do we know that though? He WAS the player you describe. Is he still that player?

Akanji has just gone through a very scientific pre-season process and City seem happy to move him on. They’ve got 4 years of data on him.

My feeling is they know the decline is in process and we all know how brutal the PL is on defenders. City haven’t been as tight at the back as previously and they’re making tough decisions. Walker and Akanji out. Stones next?

Bayern are buying Jackson from Chelsea for €80m aswell as paying a €15m loan fee and a potential sell on percentage 😳 how the fudge do they manage it?
It's funny Levy gets lauded to be some sort of master negotiator yet when rival clubs do it on a more consistent basis people complain about it as if they are cheating....

So why would a quality backup CB at City want to come here to be a backup CB and why would City be happy to release him to a rival club? Most likely because he's been told he's not wanted/not going to get many minutes...

It does seem strange that Bayern who we are lead to believe negotiated ages to sign a proven goal scorer from us stump up that fee for a player who struggled to score consistently.

I’d imagine that is the case yes. Doesn’t mean he’s no good anymore though does it? Pep’s not infallible as we’ve seen before. I’ve no idea why he would want to join us to be a rotation CB, all we know are the rumors we are looking at him..

Honestly people turning their nose’s up at Akanji as a possible 4th choice CB option baffles me! I’m not even of the opinion we need one, just if we are looking we ain’t getting better than him!

I think as likely is that they've signed more players and don't need him as much any more. Khusanov, Ait-Nouri as well as Lewis developing. He was essentially a squad player at City that got a lot of game time, but now they've replaced him in the squad and are happy to let him know.

The decline is probably going to happen, but probably has a couple of years left him at a similar level, and that's kinda what we need. But not what City need at this point.

Not turning my nose up at anyone, I'm asking the question as it seems a strange one all round. I think he's ok, personally would have preferred Vuskovic as backup but if Frank wants to take this route fair enough. Not a huge outlay, I'd take him over Davies....

I think it comes down to this; city have had an ageing squad, and need refresh, so older fringe players are the ones that have to go. Pretty sensible.
We are at a point where we have a couple of really promising young CB, that aren't quite ready yet, so we could do with some experienced back up option for a couple of years.

We lack experience - he'll add that.
If we got two years out of him as a rotation option, that would be amazing.

He'd be joint "3rd choice/rotate in" with Danso.
It would give Dragusin time to recover and Vuskovic, Takai and the kid at Aberdeen time to get develop so we know what level they'll be at.
He can do a good job against most PL and, more importantly, CL opposition.

That said, if I were him I'd go to Milan. He'll still be a top level starter in Serie A.

Frank said this yesterday when asked about signing a CB too:

“Not as it stands, no. We have right now three centre backs: Micky, Romero, Danso; and Ben can play there if necessary. We have Kota the young central defender we bought this summer and is running now and training with the team next week. And then Dragusin is coming back in a couple of months. So that should be enough.”

Did he say we're done with transfers for all positions?

We’re just used to publicise and sell players. Something about Spurs suggests it’s a good buy. We are always linked with players, half of them the club have no interest in.
