Transfer speculation

Marseille in talks with Celtic for Dembele, Celtic value him at £20m but won't sell until after their CL qualifying game

Pot kettle. Martin Samuel is as smug as they come. Why are we being smug?
We have not spent lots of money, that does not mean we are smug.
Some fans are maybe, but what do you expect from fans?
Yeh I dont think his article header is great but he does speak some truth with not spending whilst the others spend, which is what us lot pretty much think surely.

He is partly right, the youth didnt really help us when Jan/Toby/Kane were out last year

We do need to spend, we do need to being in decent back up for Eriksen, the CB's and Kane

Preferably before pre-season started would've been good to integrate them into the squad but that clearly hasn't happened but never seems to happen with Spurs

Yes but "us lot" are 'fans'.
As he said we spunked £55m on Sissoko and Vinny. With that and our recent transfer track record I doubt we will ever buy another player;)
Seriously, I would think with all the crazy big spenders trying to by the EPL we will wait a while.

I think this is a decent little article by Martin Samuel, even though it is the Mail.

Sums it up really.
Decent? Think about these quotes for a minute:
First he says that to be successful, you have to spend big:

Christian Eriksen encapsulated it at the weekend. 'When I came here there were seven new players at the same time, and you saw how that ended,' he said. 'It's an English thing where you have to spend money to win something, apparently.'

No, it isn't. It's a successful club thing.

Then he brilliantly destroys his own argument with this:

Tottenham spent a combined £47m on Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen last summer and may as well have set fire to it.

The media world thinks he is some sort of bastion of footballing knowledge.

I would counter that as a West Ham fan you put pay to that ever being possible.

Hard to keep back ups happy, that's why I think our system of 15/16 flexible players who all get game time, plus the youth who don't expect to play, works well.
Preferably before pre-season started would've been good to integrate them into the squad but that clearly hasn't happened but never seems to happen with Spurs
Haven't we done this the last two seasons? I get the impression Levy is going for deals, as improving the squad is not as vital as other years, and there's currently silly prices about.

Jim White attempting to whip up a storm on Talkbrick this morning about us not spending money. Almost has us relegated before a ball is kicked. "The plates on the sticks are wobbling" apparently.

Supertwunt.

Stating what obviously every team would like to do but completely forgetting the fundamentals.

I wonder what the difference is between us and the examples of Emirates Marketing Project and Chelsea?

It's quite clear how we operate, and we operate that way because we have too.

He's just called it 'smug' and thinks he's got a story.

Great though, isnt it? I'd want as many people as possible to think we're going to get relegated because we're not spending. I just hope that spurs fans and players will know better.
