Transfer speculation

So, I think Barkley is a very, very important signing if we can make it happen. He will keep several on their toes (Dembele obviously, Eriksen too IMO), he is a great rotation option plus he is a great bench option. I can see Barkley and Winks playing together in certain competitions. Onomah could well end up phasing into things nicely if the Moose is hurt, and I must agree, he has always been played but of his best position. Dier will be the right-back cover in a 4-2-3-1 if need be. I think we will see a signing depending on how KWP does pre-season. The Sissoko signing has, I believe, had a massive e effect on what we do in the market. On paper he was a player who should've given us a lot for our system (i.e. pace and power) when the reality is he was mentally fragile.

Has Barkley performed well for Everton in a similar role to what Dembele plays for us. He might develop that way, but so far he seems very much the #10 to me.

In my opinion Sissoko was never the player we needed on paper.

Yep. Barkley has neither the discipline nor the skill set for CM in my opinion. Maybe he'll grow into it, but maybe Onomah will too. He looks more the part.

Barkley will be an impact sub, no more, and further up the pitch as you say.

We've been linked with Serge Aurier in the media this morning.

From wiki: "Aurier continued to be in the right position until he was suspended indefinitely on 14 February 2016 for calling teammate Ángel Di María a "clown" and calling Blanc a "fiotte" (a homophobic slur) during a question-and-answer session on Periscope in which he also criticised supposed favouritism towards striker Zlatan Ibrahimović.[56][57] Following his suspension, PSG ordered Aurier to train with their reserve side from 29 February until 20 March"

Sounds like a nice chap who would be great for team spirit...

United have been linked with him for the past week or so.
Now today we get a mention, as do Inter.
Sounds like a no-basis name check, probably to get Utd to make an offer or something.

Now that Emirates Marketing Project have signed Mendy for £52m are we supposed to be impressed if they win the title? I think not. I think they have spent about at least £200m and they there is more to come

Nope, won't necessarily be impressed but this needs to be borne in mind by all those posting on the seasons expectations thread about us coming in the top couple positions. Cheatski have added well this summer, Man C have etc - the league will be a lot more competitive next year

Will be very interested to see how this pans out. Noone would have predicted we came close to the top last year because our spending is nowhere near the level of the top guns, and will be the same story again this year. Can we still compete at the very top? I think we can, but its a shame we will be at Wembley that will probably hinder us a little....

Chelsea have added a striker to replace the proven one their losing

They have added a midfielder to replace the proven one their losing

They have added a back up keeper to replace the one they have lost

They have replaced Terry with the German centre back

They have also lost some of their younger squad players...

They may well turn out to be stronger but the Chelsea fans I know are bricking it now seeing how weak their squad is

Their squad may appear to be weak, but don't underestimate the tactical part of it and Conte is very good at that. It's very similar to us: we don't necessarily have the best players in each position (with the exception of maybe 5-6), but Poch has made them fit into the tactical approach perfectly. If anything is going to make Chelsea struggle this year, it's going to be the addition of CL and if they have more injuries than last year.

Both likely issues for them though

Conte is a great manager but there now in 4 comps and that will take its toll

dragon1: We are well run we do not let contracts run out ,Edwards is a problem his heads not 100% right will see what season brings but poch is all about team ethos and work ethic , either he ships up or he will be on way
Those bitching about walker , was poch decision , Walker wanted to play more and they disagreed on a couple of other things and poch was done , levy did not push the sale
