Transfer speculation

Both those articles have sense in them and can easily be summarised by saying that its very easy to spend money badly but hard to spend money well. Under Levy, Spurs really focus on this and from getting value for money though as the articles have said have done it badly (Janssen, Sissoko and various others before them) as often we we're done it well (Dele, youth development generally).

None of that detracts though from the point which Samuel made about Spurs having certain key gaps in the squad - obviously though remains to be seen whether by waiting til later in the window we can get good enough quality for sensible prices. Last year we tried the same but ended up paying £30m for Sissoko. We're using the same tactic this year but hopefully will achieve better results

Alli and Dier? Son and Wimmer?

Meh, oh well. I still think it's an honest article. I'm not a rose tinted spurs fan and can actually listen to and appreciate "non-Spurs" fans, reporters comments, opinions etc.

You don't have to be a rose-tinted Spurs fan to think that article is bunk.
Samuel was decrying the heavy-spending of Chelsea or Emirates Marketing Project not too long ago because it was stopping English talent or youth coming through.
Which is it then, Martin?
Or does it not actually matter because the opinion is artificially heightened in order to create an article for deadline?

Why does it have to be one or the other? He never said we had to go spending £100s of millions did he? He says we have come up short so far so need to invest - hardly an outrageous thing to suggest....

Agreed! Not sure why there were such a negative reaction to that article on here! As I said before, whether our transfer window approach will look good in hindsight dpeneds on whether we do deals like Dele, Alderweireld and Wanyama, or deals like Sissoko, Jansson and Njie

This is what always makes me laugh - one moment people are saying the game has gone crazy with transfer fees/wages and then when we buck the trend the same people are queuing up to dig us out for it

Maybe claiming Spurs to be 'smug' got a lot of people riled up which was a stupid thing to label the players/club, but the majority of content of the article was fair....

That the only way to be successful is to spend the most? Even though we've been the best EPL team over the past 2 seasons, despite spending the least? And the vast majority of big signings flop?

Jim White attempting to whip up a storm on Talkbrick this morning about us not spending money. Almost has us relegated before a ball is kicked. "The plates on the sticks are wobbling" apparently.

Supertwunt.

Talkbrick does what exactly says on the tin. ie TALKbrick.
