The all new Striker thread..

Need a new poll :(

Gomez - Fiorentina
Villa - Athletico
Bony - Swansea
Benteke and Martinez - well out of our price range
Mehgredo - a bit crap
Benitez - not sure we can drag him away from the mighty Qatari league

Here's the new poll then:

Soldado
Leandro
Osvaldo

I have put it in another thread but if Man bricky are willing to sell, why not try bring in Dzeko? He has proven it in the league, may well be within our reach, has good hold up play and has most of the qualities we need.

There arent many strikers out there. Dortmund who would have been faves had whatshisface left have just got in that other striker so they may not be interested any longer.

Yilmaz is an allround striker - and knocked them in in the ECL. Would be a great signing too IMO. (and can play the lone front man)

I would love Benteke.

I watched him as much as possible last season, at first because I thought Lambert was brave to drop Bent even when they were going through the roughest of stretches, and then because Benteke became increasingly good.

I think his potential is scary. He has the attributes, IMO, to be what Les Ferdinand SHOULD'VE been for us merged with a Drogba. He is superb with his back to goal, pretty damn good with his front to goal and can drop into wide areas and be productive. He would be congruent with Verts and Dembele, giving us a 'spine' of sorts at club and country levels, and he is broken into the Premiership.

No, I think he'd be spectacular for us. I hope it happens.

Would add Dzeko to the list

Still not convinced that he will be at City when the new season starts and I think, he could be quite good if he was given confidence from the management and not the "Play 1 match, have 2 on the bench" thing that Mancini did

I would actually be, think the fact that we would back AVB with Paulinho (at that price), the fact that we need to pacify Bale (even if its just a little) and the obvious issues with the strike force last year, I know it is Spurs, but I'd be very surprised if we didn't significantly improve our striking options.

To me it is just more of the same. We have had a glaring need for strikers since Berba & Keane left and we have done the bare minimum to address it since. I just don't see many options out there that would realistically come to us. At this point I am just hoping we at least buy A striker even if it is someone like Shane Long or someone of that ilk to just give us proper cover.

we need a finisher, desperately

imo Soldado and Benteke will be too expensive. So that leaves us with Damaio. Well thats as long as he doesnt join Southampton or Napoli

I think we're still in 'wait and see' mode with regards to Damiao. If nobody else comes in they might be willing to budge on price, but they've already sold some players this season.

Do you not though think his style suits that of a mid-table side, rather than that of a top side? I.e will he be good for a team that has a lot of possession, but not much space in the final third? Darren Bent disease (not saying they are similar players at all)

I thought we were going to get Villa, and then play that game (with a stronger hand).

After today's news, I think it's us who might go crawling back to Inter.

Inter were just about to sign Adriano when it looked as if we were trying early for Leandro. I'm sure they'll resussitate that when they need to.

Like you say, not similar to Bent at all. To me the typical "good for lower half and mid table strikers" are players like Bent and Andy Johnson, counter attacking strikers essentially.

Benteke would add a lot to our play.

-When opponents put pressure on us high up the pitch we would have someone to hoof it to. This is very valuable and since we're still not looking like a super high possession team I think we will be forced into long balls with some frequency next season. Effects of having a target man like Benteke might even be that we get more space to build from the back as teams have to sit back a touch if they worry about him bossing their back 4 when/if we play it long.

-When opponents sit super deep we have someone to cross it too, and to dink it in to for knock downs etc. Last season some teams would sit very deep against us, having someone like Benteke to cross to offers a new way to score against those stubborn teams. Smaller players can score from crosses when there's space in the box to attack, but when teams are defending deep and not allowing crosses to come in behind them you kinda need a battering ram to score from crosses.

Again I think there are positive influences on overall play to this. When full backs and wingers/wide midfielders can trust their centre backs to win almost every header then they can essentially just back off our wingers and full backs if in a bit of trouble defensively and more or less just allow crosses to come in (when organized), when those players have to be told to stop crosses from coming in at all times then they have to put pressure on our wide men - that actually makes it easier for our players to take the ball past them and get to the touchline.

-He is not a Doherty type target man that can't finish and can't use his feet either, so he's not that kind of mid table striker either.

He would give us a lot of attacking options and he would make us a more balanced side I feel.
