we need a finisher, desperately
imo Soldado and Benteke will be too expensive. So that leaves us with Damaio. Well thats as long as he doesnt join Southampton or Napoli
Would be pretty underwhelming.

Like you say, not similar to Bent at all. To me the typical "good for lower half and mid table strikers" are players like Bent and Andy Johnson, counter attacking strikers essentially.
Benteke would add a lot to our play.
-When opponents put pressure on us high up the pitch we would have someone to hoof it to. This is very valuable and since we're still not looking like a super high possession team I think we will be forced into long balls with some frequency next season. Effects of having a target man like Benteke might even be that we get more space to build from the back as teams have to sit back a touch if they worry about him bossing their back 4 when/if we play it long.
-When opponents sit super deep we have someone to cross it too, and to dink it in to for knock downs etc. Last season some teams would sit very deep against us, having someone like Benteke to cross to offers a new way to score against those stubborn teams. Smaller players can score from crosses when there's space in the box to attack, but when teams are defending deep and not allowing crosses to come in behind them you kinda need a battering ram to score from crosses.
Again I think there are positive influences on overall play to this. When full backs and wingers/wide midfielders can trust their centre backs to win almost every header then they can essentially just back off our wingers and full backs if in a bit of trouble defensively and more or less just allow crosses to come in (when organized), when those players have to be told to stop crosses from coming in at all times then they have to put pressure on our wide men - that actually makes it easier for our players to take the ball past them and get to the touchline.
-He is not a Doherty type target man that can't finish and can't use his feet either, so he's not that kind of mid table striker either.
He would give us a lot of attacking options and he would make us a more balanced side I feel.
Yilmaz is an allround striker - and knocked them in in the ECL. Would be a great signing too IMO. (and can play the lone front man)

Is there any of that Ade (on form) doesn't give us though?
I just think rather than an Ade (potential) upgrade, we need someone a bit different to complement him - someone more technical, more capable coming on to a defence and a sharper shooter.
Why are you so high on Damiao, GB?

Ade isn't great in the air, despite his size. But yes, an in form Ade is a very good player. The question is if we can trust him to be in form. I'm not so sure.
Based only on his one season with Villa Benteke is a sharper shooter than Ade by some distance.

What about Michu?
wonder what that one would cost 15m?? would certainly get us goals....similar player to Dempsey perhaps a shade more clinical.
has a bit of Berbatov about him. Like his style, think he's much better than Benteke and would cost less too.
I wouldnt be surprised if AVB wanted Villa, Baldini is pushing for Soldado, and Levy/Sherwood are in Benteke's corner......transfer committees, gotta love 'em!!
