Which player would you like to see take over from Luka Modric?

Levy turned down a £40m offer last summer. Ultimately it looks like AVB wants him gone now, the same way way Ramos wanted Berbatov gone. Meanwhile we have a midfield of Jenas and Livermore.
eh?!! also bale hudd, vdv, Sig Parker Sandro Lennon - much better shape than we have been for years.

Thats a solid midfield. Were all going to be horrified on Saturday when Jenas actually starts the game.

Why are people still thinking that with the money from the sale of Modric we will be buying a striker?

Surely it would be a midfield UNLESS you bring in a midfielder who is of significantly lower quality.

Have to say that it is amusing (but not surprising) that so many on here are working themselves into a hissy fit about the fee that Spurs will, according to SSN, receive for Modric.

Since when were SSN a remotely reliable source - especially for the kind of detail that we're talking about here?

All the more silly because many of those complaining loudest are the first to ridicule and dismiss any positive rumour about the club.

€32M is £25 That's the story here plus addons which could be up to €8M which is £6M
So that's £25M now and up to £6M more not that bad and he's not at our rival for a change. Job done move on...

I would expect us to replace Modric, he is far too significant a player to not replace. Poor AVB, will toe the line in the way Levy probably wants but must be wondering what he has taken on.

A 40 million pound bid from fudging Chelsea. I'd rather take potentially 30 from Madrid, plus getting another year of service. It was a gamble, and honestly, I'd rather it turned out like this than see him playing for the Blue Scum.

And also, there are TWO fudging WEEKS left of the transfer window. Before we all start jumping off our balconies, see how the process plays out. Jesu Christo.

From Goal.COM: Not saying it's gospel, but the 23 million pound transfer fee is far from set in stone.

Luka Modric is poised to fly to Spain on Thursday to finalise a £30 million move from Tottenham to Real Madrid.

The midfielder will jet into the Spanish capital after appearing for Croatia in their friendly against Switzerland on Wednesday night.

Sources have told Goal.com that Real have agreed a fee worth £30m with Spurs for Modric to finally bring an end to the long-running transfer saga.

Modric is expected to have a medical with the Spanish champions in the next 48 hours before putting pen to paper on a deal.

The 26-year-old has been in limbo since demanding a transfer to Real earlier in the summer.

He failed to report on time for pre-season training and refused to go on the north Londoners’ pre-season tour to the United States.

This came 12 months after he asked for a move from White Hart Lane to Chelsea, which Spurs chairman Daniel Levy refused to sanction despite a £40m bid from the European champions days before the end of the August 2011 window.

Also, we do not have a midfield of Jenas and Livermore. We have a midfield of Sandro, Bale, Lennon, Siggurdson, VDV, Huddlestone, Parker, Livermore....and Jenas. It's like saying last year we had a defense of Nelsen and Khumalo. Get a grip, man.

Absolutely. As has been discussed before, those tossers in madrid will waffle on about 23 million, Levy will keep his mouth shut unless it gets too stupid, and we'll all know the deal is closer to 33-35...

As for the "we turned down 40 mill from Chelsea last August"...yes. And?
