If the fact he only has a year left is the determining factor in Levy wanting to sign him then I can't see this one going through. It is probably tactical -unsettle all the transfer targets of your main rivals, keep them hanging on, so that neither player nor club is able to plan for new season, in meantime sign players you actually want, but leave announcements until last minute if possible.
 
Are people aware of just how much money 2 million Euro is? It's not like you're haggling for a tenner off an mp3 player, Christ.

its becoming increasingly rare for highly rated players wanting to join Tottenham, so when actually comes along and insists on joining us surely we should do whatever it takes to make the deal happen, and if that means paying 12 million pounds instead of 10 million pounds i dont think its too much of a hardship for the club, a club that has spent very little(net) in the transfer market over the last couple of years

If true I'd imagine the lack of interest was down to the fact he's on a rather large wage at Real and we just scrubbed him off the list because of it? Depressing if true tho
 
Jesus why are people panicking ? the constant stream of itk info on this deal is making it sound worse than what it is - Vertonghen has been quoted saying he only wants to come to Spurs - Levy is there negotiating, chill the fudge out - the deals gonna happen it's just a case of getting it to a price we both can agree on - it's as much Ajax trying to push their luck as it is us being a tight

The Exact quote was more along the line of Spurs being the only English club that interested him.

just to make sure Levy doesnt get complacent and try and haggle the sh't out of this deal until the final day of the window

I'm not sure that's true. 4th best team in the EPL. That's not nothing. It probably means that in all of Europe we are probably in or around the Top 10 most desirable clubs. That is even more likely true when you add in our London location, excellent new training facility, a "players' manager" being in charge and our image as a vibrant club on the up.

That will mean we miss out on the really top galactico's and young South American - or French - superstars, but there are plenty enough high quality international players left after those really top guys are taken.
 
I completely agree, why would Levy want to replace a gobbrick like Harry with a Multi championship and CL winning manager like Jose. thank GHod we didnt follow up on it.
