Or he's annoyed with them so he's willing to keep getting paid 175k a week until August to delay the inevitable? He may have already made up his mind back in May to join us permanently but 3 extra months at 175k is a fair whack.

Maybe DL is confident he will join and has been fully happy to wait from May until now to finalize things knowing it would save a million or so.

To be honest if there is anything to this I think its a case of who blinks first between us and City regards the bonus pay off.

Original reports stated we were getting the low fee on the basis we gave him a signing on bonus. We know City are rich enough to cover it, we know they are desperate to get shot (absolutely NO chance of them lumping him in the reserves) and so Im guessing we are pushing it to see if they fold

i know he is on massive wages at City, but they are giving away a top 20 mill plus striker for 5 mill pounds. Thats pretty unheard of, id like to see Levy give a way kn*bhead Bentley for 5 mill

so we are getting a top striker for 5 mill pounds, and it should be up to us to sort out his wages, by giving him a bigger signing on bonus etc. All in all, the whole deal will probably cost Spurs 35 mill over a 4 year period, but still we are laughing because to sign a striker of Ade's calibre normally would cost much more than that when transfer fee and wages are taken into account

I think you are right here but couldn't we just say split the difference on not take the risk of losing Ade.

Some teletext nonsence that 3 clubs are in for Cazorla, Spurs being one. And some ITK that Sahin is now back in as part of the Modric move. Slow news day I guess.

I dont disagree - but my guess is Levy being Levy - it would be an even sweeter deal to have City pay him instead of us.

not so sweet if we lose at Saudi Sportswashing Machine, and draw our home games and start off the season on the wrong foot because of sulky no show Modric and a toothless attack...and all because Levy is fighting for every last penny in all deals. I really thought lessons had been learned

You would, I probably would - Levy though? No chance - he is a f*cker like that!

Slow news day indeed. I would be happy with Sahin (despite being a big Moutinho fan) but dont know enough to comment on Cazorla (despite the fact it would be sweeeet to grab a target from Arsenal)

Purely a matter of perspective isnt it? Short or long term. Short term it sucks but if it gets us a player on our terms it could have better long term consequences.

Not at all - it's the form horse.

The consistent pattern is one of disagreement and delay. We all know the key areas of weakness, yet lacking is the focus and drive to address them.

We've had a change of management over the summer, but sadly there hasn't been a change in behaviour. If Daniel Levy continues with his ignorant approach, then - quite frankly - you could have any manager in charge and they won't succeed, as they're not being given the support and tools to deliver their objectives.

If the excuse is one of affordability then I've voiced the solution previously: sell the club to a new owner; an owner who can finance the operation pursuant to our goals and aspirations.

I simply cannot fathom that it is affordability for two reasons.

Firstly we havent spent much in net terms and we have saved a fair few quid as well as brought in some funds through transfers.

Secondly, why did we go out and spend 8m on a midfielder if what we were really crying out for was a CD ~(vert which we got) and a striker (or two)

I just think, bearing in mind the above, either no strikers want to come or we have put in derisory offers and clubs are tinkled off with us OR we havent really identified who we want. Ade seems to be the obvious choise because he seems to fit the criteria or relatively cheap transfer fee, wants to come and someone who has proved it at our club.

Im thinking now that lets be honest - it really wasnt Harrys fault for not bringing in a striker. There seems to be a theme and as you say really you can have Jose Mourinho in here but we would still be the same in the market.

i think more than ever we need to start the season well. A lot of pressure on AVB, the media are ready to pounce, this group of players went through a desperate run of form for the final 3rd of last season and dont let the final few positive results fool anyone. They were against poor sides. I think confidence amongst the players is still shaky and a big effort should have been made this summer to be ready on and off the pitch going into the first few games of the season

we cant even get the move into the new training ground right, thats been delayed till Sept:).....

Completely agree about needint to start the season well, partly because the league will again be tight this year and partly because anything else than being in the top say 6 or 7 from week 1 and you'll have the media printing stories saying that we were wrong to get rid of Harry etc which, whether you agree with that or not, will just heap pressure on AVB

I absolutely agree with you and what you say makes total sense.

But I can't shake the feeling that Levy knows his brick and is a LOT better at things like this than me (I won't make assumptions about your business acumen)

I just hope in a few weeks it's a case of "Levy is a genius" rather than "how did Levy fudge that up?"

hope so too

Same people now advocating that we should just "pay the difference" for Ade that advocated the same approach for Vertonghen?

We're not talking pocket change here, probably a couple of million pounds per player, if we sign 3 players per season and this keeps happening that's 5-6 million per season, possibly more. Money that is then spent either on other players, improved (and extended) contracts for existing players or stuff like the training ground or stadium.

I'm certainly glad Levy doesn't take your approach.

I am with most that say would rather pay a little extra cash to get this Ade situation sorted, so we can avoid another team coming in and stealing him from under our noses and he has time to train with our squad and be ready for the start of the season. I think this season more so than other seasons it is imperative we get off to a good start to take some pressure off of AVB.

AVB's avin a party, bring your vodka and your charlie!

also, think everybody should chill

we are a top 4 club that needs strikers (plural)

no chance in hell that we will not get a top striker in before the end of august

How many times have I heard that in the last 7 transfer windows

Yep, and all we can do is have faith in Levy and the board that they have everything in hand, however we always seem to get to the end of the transfer window and its a 'meh' 5 out of 10 window and very underhwleming

Maybe our expectations are all unrealistic and/or maybe the finances at the club at that much worse than we believe. However we're all very used to the days and weeks rolling past and hoping then getting to 11.59 on the 31st with our fingers crossed only to ultimately be disappointed....
