Summer transfer thread, AvB window wrap up pg 1527

Which player would you like to see take over from Luka Modric?

you find remotely possible that he does not?

Like I say, in the transfer market, not really, no. What stamp did he put on the Chelsea squad? Mata and a Porto old boy? That squad needed life breathing into it and he barely hit the transfer market. Lukaku was a classic moneybags Abromovich "go get him" purchase. He needed to do something with that squad, especially if he wanted them to play his sort of football and he didn't do a thing.

I'm hoping that he has spent his time in the US figuring out where the holes are, but he apparently spent a lot of time scouting whilst he was a free agent... and most of the players he apparently scouted have all transfered to other teams. Doesn't say much.

Personally, I see this window being the same as the last few summers, horribly dissapointing.

About 16 days for us to get our signings in before the first game.

Ideally, I think I'd like for us to get our signings done before our pre-season friendly against Valencia, perhaps parade them around the pitch, come on before or at half time or something or even play the game. But if not, I'd like for us to get our action done before the Saudi Sportswashing Machine away game. But being Spurs, regardless of who our manager is, I can't see it.

It's frustrating because two of the best players we've purchased both quality and sell on value wise - - Berbatov and Modric - have been decisive buys well before the season starts. Where has that urgency when it comes to identifying and buying players before others get involved gone? Oscar should have been wrapped up ages ago before Chelsea got a sniff if we were that interested, if we'd had the same attitude with Modric or Berbatov they would probably have both been off to a team with a bigger budget.

i think AVB had a good look at Oscar whilst he was Chelsea manager, and probably identified him then as a definite must buy when possible. Avb then comes to Spurs, says the same thing to Levy, but by then its too late as Chelsea had already scouted him and had all the reports and were able to financially blow us out the water

but yes, we definitely need more urgency

this is 2008 all over again...our best player wants to leave, we cant buy anyone till he goes, he will cause chaos by refusing to play, we start the season away in the North East, highly rated foreign coach/manager under pressure

2 points from 8, RedAdairknapp to the rescue?

Emmanuel Adebayor will not get pay off to complete Spurs transfer
Emirates Marketing Project have told Emmanuel Adebayor they will not give him a pay off in order to finally seal his move to Tottenham.

Adebayor is currently locked in negotiations with Spurs over a return to White Hart Lane, after the club agreed a £5 million fee with City for the striker, who scored 20 goals whilst on loan in north London last season.

However, the deal has stalled over Adebayor's refusal to accept a cut to his current £175,000-a-week wages, which were part subsidised by City last season.

Adebayor is willing to accept Spurs' £100,000-a-week offer, but only if City make up the loss by handing a chunk of the transfer fee directly to him.

However, City boss Mancini is no mood for charity.

Fresh from cancelling the contract of his son Andrea, who has now signed for Real Valladoid, Mancini senior has told Adebayor he can forget about picking up a hefty pay off, and the club will force him to play in the reserves if he fails to find an agreement with Spurs.

It's a tough talking stance that appears to be working, with Adebayor ready to hold further talks with Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas in the next 48 hours, in a bid to find an agreement that works for everybody.

Adebayor, who is also attracting interest from several Russia clubs, is expected to sign a four-year-deal with Spurs

It's getting boring how. I hope we have been looking at other options whilst this brick has been going on

Is that not a bit premature?

Not at all - it's the form horse.

The consistent pattern is one of disagreement and delay. We all know the key areas of weakness, yet lacking is the focus and drive to address them.

We've had a change of management over the summer, but sadly there hasn't been a change in behaviour. If Daniel Levy continues with his ignorant approach, then - quite frankly - you could have any manager in charge and they won't succeed, as they're not being given the support and tools to deliver their objectives.

If the excuse is one of affordability then I've voiced the solution previously: sell the club to a new owner; an owner who can finance the operation pursuant to our goals and aspirations.

Is that not a bit premature?

Not really. This is around the time some people start knee jerking, whilst others start saying "Is this not a bit premature?"

Next week I expect there to be clamour about Ade
The following week Ade will move to Russia becuase of a "project" with lots of money
We will then hear last minute reports of a sensational bid for Edison Cavani and Steven Jovetic
We will complete the signing of Leon Best with 5 hours to run in the transfer window

If that truly happens (and past precedent suggest it might just, according to the Spurs ethos of 'everything that could go wrong - will go wrong) then Levy has to take the blame this time around. Continous and utter faliure to address key squad areas for 8-9 seasons running for a club of our perceived stature and aspirations in inexcusable.

You can't talk about a 400m new stadium precinct plan when you can't bring one half-decent striker to the club for 4.5 years running.

I'm a bit sick of this Adebayor thing. I get that he doesn't want a pay cut, but he needs to decide where he is happier, playing for Spurs on <£100k or sitting in Citys reserves on £175k

Ive no doubt there is form for this sort of thing ending without satisfaction. But these views are based upon are old precedent - and the window hasnt shut yet so it does seem (to me) to be a little premature to wind up to writing it off.

Levy seems to me to be keeping things under his hat, very little is actually getting out at the moment. Hence there is a lack of rumour/gossip (with any feel of authenticity) and so the perception to those outside the club nothing is happening. It may be that nothing is happening. It may be that there is a whole shed load of deals about to complete.

What do we know for a fact?

Really only three things this window IMO
1) We have moved already to sign two players (and in Sigurdssons case very decisively)
2) Madrid want our star man, which looks like dragging on due to us holding a high valuation (fair, IMO)
3) AVB stated a couple of weeks back that there would be no movement at this time, he wanted to assess the squad and THEN go back into the market.

At the moment Im inclined to take him at his word and not get to carried away yet.

He isn't keeping things under his hat. He is in the US doing nothing. Fair enough he has problems of his own, and they are very real and horrible problems. But don't let that detract from the fact that, aside from Ade, we have no real striking target at the moment. I would almost gaurentee it.

But you CANT guarantee it - thats my point. For all you know we will have a striker wrapped up and announced by bedtime.

It LOOKS pretty bad at the moment but we are so misinformed (uninformed?) our opinions have very little basis on which to be formed. Except "Well last year and the year before this happened so it will happen again". Yes there is precedent, but not certainty.

And on 31/07 there is a full month for things to play out (or not!)

Or he's annoyed with them so he's willing to keep getting paid 175k a week until August to delay the inevitable? He may have already made up his mind back in May to join us permanently but 3 extra months at 175k is a fair whack.

Maybe DL is confident he will join and has been fully happy to wait from May until now to finalize things knowing it would save a million or so.
