While I disagree with GutterBoys view on 442 (completely viable formation IMHO) I do agree Defoe is an issue in the squad.

It seems he can only play in a pair, and very specifically off of a "big man" who can create space for him and knock the ball on etc. This factor is very limiting in how you might set up a side if you had a desire to really utilise Defoe. Its an issue because it seems we are moving away, not toward that style of play. Defoe would be a perfectly good striker for a number of other sides though.

I think the difference is best illustrated by Adebayors impact/input last season. He was, IMO, sensational - offering us nearly everything we might want in a striker.

so, just a few days ago we were commentating on Falcao vs Damaio and now we are wondering about our one and only Harry Kane..

Says more about the fans than the club. Get a grasp on reality and you'll be fine.

Here's some hints:
Transfers take time.
There is 3 weeks to go.
Players are still training with their clubs.
Situations change quickly.

4-4-2 is definitely dead (like it has been at other successful clubs for most of the past decade).
The problem is that Defoe doesn't fit into any other system, so he's become even more achronisitic and pointless.

We need Ade + backup Ade + youth team Ade (Obika?).

Kane is a #10 really, so is more 3rd choice behind Rafa and the Sig.

Personally I deem Utd as being successful, but that's just me I guess.....

If we are counting on Harry Kane playing any part in this season we are truly fudged

That's not true, He'll most likely get time in europa league group and develop his game, whilst giving the amazing superstar strikers we've bought  to get some rest. Then end up going out on loan to championship for the second half of the season and probably will do well.

You are probably right re: Europa League but I wish we would take it seriously this year, I had high hopes for Kane but he has looked brick every time I have seen him

Cleveland, did you watch the game last night? I know 1 game is hardly a big enough sample size, but once Kane came on, I felt our link up play was much more fluid, and I'd be willing to bet that Kane got more touches in the short time he was on than Defoe did for all his time.

point being, I think we could do much worse than Kane for our 3rd choice striker

They play a variation of a 4-4-2 though. It isn't a typical 4-4-2 with 2 out and out strikers which is rarely used nowadays.

not many teams ever played with 2 out and out strikers....one of the two tended to have the ability to drop a bit deeper and link the midfield and attack

No, no, no... that must be wrong?!

Everyone knows that wenger doesn't spend any money and doesn't sign any one over the age of 21? You know, arsene's Young Guns, the wonder-kids who cleaned up? No? Sure I read it somewhere...

Now the people that know are saying only personal terms agreed, no bid yet. Malaga's owner is expected to come pay a visit to his club soon. If he starts paying his players their wages they might want to stay.
