Wait just a minute...just wait right there. I was told the sweeper keeper was pivotal to AVB's preferred tactics and Friedel just doesn't fit? we'd have to get a replacement in ASAP. There must be something wrong there, i'm not having it.

tbh there were plenty of long balls last night, so a keeper who can lump it will be ideal:)

Speaking in the aftermath of Spurs’ 1-1 pre-season draw with LA Galaxy, Villas-Boas told reporters: “We are always looking for one more striker since it's a position that we're looking to strengthen.

“I think taking three strikers into a Premiership season is more than enough. Sometimes it's not, but hopefully it is. We're trying to bring somebody else in.”

.................

3 strikers then, we already have Defoe so we need 2 more, and yet AVB says "we are always looking for one more striker" :-s

I take the quote to mean he must like the look of Kane.. (or another youngster)

Modric staying would be even better

Really?

I want that taco out of the club and was shocked the majority wanted him to stay last season. He's bricking on the badge and what the club stands for yet people were still persistent on him staying as it apparently shows we don't budge or lay down to nobody. Personally i couldn't give a fudge what it looked like to other clubs i just wanted him gone and i want him gone even more this season.

eh only 1 striker we're gonna sign? damn.

Wait so if we sign Ade it's gonna be Ade, Defoe and an untried kid as the 3 strikers? for at least until Jan 2013? fudge that. Defoe can't even play in AVB's preferred system ffs.

Seriously? Everyone keeps saying this yet ignoring the fact that AVB has stated he is going to do something different to his usual whilst at spurs.

Did he? must have missed that.

Anyway if that "something different" still relies on a lone striker which i think it will then it really doesn't matter anyway. Defoe simply cannot play as a lone striker.

Putting Modric aside for a moment and speaking generically - I don't think it's right for us to bend over every single time one of our best players wants to leave because quite frankly it would forever condemns to a Top-10 selling team and never a Top 4 regular, besides setting the obvious precedents for future players. To me that philosohy is not in line with (hopefully) what Levy and the rest are attempting to build for the club - i.e. increased exposure, consistent progress and overall squad quality improvement, regular CL, new stadium, expanding markets, etc.

Back to Modric - remember when Madrid bought Ronaldo they had to cough up 80 big and Utd didn't budge - why the fudge should we? Sure, he's not the same player but he is worth that much to us (if the35-40m figures are to be believed) - much like Berbatov was a 20-22m striker but worth 31 to us at the time of his sale. Getting rid of him at a discount price purely on an emotional level is not right, imv. In fact - him and his agent would make more pessos from a higher sale so it would be in his own interest to wait for the right price

No he hasnt. He's said that, at the start, we're likely to play a different formation to his usual formation as (i) the players will be used to a different system and it would take a while to get them used to a new system and (ii) we dont necessarily have the players for his system

My take therefore is that we'll start with a variant of the 4-4-1-1 which the players are used to (and in the friendlies it looks like it'll be a 4-2-3-1) and then over the course of the season they'll get the players used to his 4-3-3/4-5-1 in training

That's actually a fudging good point you made there about the agent.

He really does seem bloody terrible, or like he doesn't learn. And he also doesn't seem to know where best to concentrate his energies. Unless the assumption that he will get more money if Modric goes for a higher fee is wrong. I can understand him trying to force the move for his client, but he's gone about it in the wrong way.

Why try and play hard-ball with Levy and advise Modric to do a load of petulant brick in order to force the move, and get him to Madrid cheaper? Last summer I could see why that would work in theory because we said we wouldn't sell for any price. But now we've said we would sell if the valuation is met. But the agent doesn't seem to have adjusted for that new reality.

He doesn't need to convince Levy to sell. He needs to convince Madrid to up the price, because we hold all the power. Levy has shown he doesn't take kindly to being pushed around. But it's in his interests too. He should be going to Madrid and moving heaven and earth to have them pay the valuation. It's funny that he seemingly prefers to try and attack Spurs rather than work on Madrid. Ahh well.

"We're trying to continue with the same system that Tottenham played most of the time last year," AVB said. "It's a system that benefits Rafa and [new signing Gylfi] Sigurdsson as the two players competing for that role behind the striker."

Which says at the start where?
