Defoe might do ok in an Allardyce team actually. A direct style would suit him more than our passing game. Playing off Carlton Cole's knock downs etc.

I'm not sure that is true actually, the only tall striker that he has formed an effective partnership with during his two spells at Spurs was Kanoute. Keane was always the happier of the two feeding off knock downs.

Adebayor has decided he would rather stay at Emirates Marketing Project and risk not playing for 170K a week than come to Spurs and be more or less a certain starter for 100K a week, time for us to move on. I think of him and then I think of Ledley and then I say WTF? I wish management would move on to another target

it's just a bit of brinkmanship during the negotiations, I am confident that he will sign and I doubt that we could sign a better striker if we chose to look elsewhere.

Look lets be honest - Ade knows there arent many available strikers out there who fit within our transfer budget - so Ade is in a bit of a good position for barganing.

Another point is that we are doing the same to Real - you want modric this is what you pay. Ade is saying to us - you want me then this is what you pay me.

The thing is we have allegedly offered him 100k a week which is in my opinion too much. If he is holding out for more than that we should jog on. On what reality is he worth more than that? I think if we scour the globe there will be options. He is good but not that good. Besides Real Madrid can afford to pay 25Million for Modric but just don't want to. Not only is he not work 170k a week we cannot afford it.

Besides what if his brinkmanship means he is ready to wait until we have lost our first league matches of the season because we only have Defoe? He has nothing to lose while we have points to lose

Yet people keep telling me in Jan 2011 we were making bids of 35 million plus for the likes of Llorente and Rossi. Allegedly these bids were rejected so how come we have no money to buy a decent striker now, what happened to the money we did not spend? In the 5 seasons prior to this summer we have spent an average of 6 million a season net. Now considering our league positions over that period how the feck can we have no money to buy a decent striker?

If it is brinkmanship then Adebayor can hold out until the last day of the transfer window, that does not really help us now does it? Heck I would rather sod it and make a bid for Demba Ba. He is affordable, especially if the story about his transfer clause is to be believed and he would not be asking for 170K a week :D

We have two strikers on tour in the USA - one is Defoe who I think we are prepared to sell and Kane an untried and unproven striker in the premiership. I dont think we have many other alternatives. Think about it 5m plus around 7m a year equates to circa 30m over four years. Llorente circa 30m on transfer fees or lewendowski on around 20m.

Thats how Ade's agent im sure is lookin at it.

We really dont have many options and I think we are fairly desperate

maybe we really dont have the money
we sold Corluka and Kranjcar, and signed Vertonghen and Sigurdsson, 2 in 2 out, and since then everything has gone quiet and we are waiting for the Modric deal to be sorted before we make our next move

You know, I'm really starting to think this. We were reported to be giving AVB £30m plus any transfer monies from the sale of Modric.
Right now what is our net spend? £3m? Have we really got the money to buy a Lloris or a Lewandowski without it being funded by the Modric sale?

There aren't many options out there for us, I'm sure if Rossi hadn't buggered his knee then we'd be in for him as he pretty much fits the exact profile Levy would look for. I'm sure we do have the money but if there's not a great deal around then you end up taking players you don't particularly want.

Also on Modric, there's no way that after qualifying for the CL he signs a six year contract on £40k a week. I'm pretty certain that was how much he was earning when he first signed, then the new deal took him up to £70k plus.

DHSF you say we do not many options, well that is because our scouting has been wanting. Everton got Nikica Jelavic for peanuts and he has done very well for them, and again I mention Demba Ba. These two players are proof if you look hard enough we do not have to buy strikers and pay them 170K a week.

Everybody talks about Lewendowski these days but they all ignore the fact that he was signed for 4.5 euros just 2 years ago, further proof there are players there if we look hard enough. Instead we for players that everybody else wants and then complain we cannot compete with them or we go for a player who we allow to hold us over a barrel by demanding silly money

Signing Adebayor for £6m would be fantastic business and it is worth spending some time over the finer details.

Mate, the chances are that if he had not buggered his knee we would have been knocked out of the park by a bid from a PSG, Juventus, Barca, Chelsea, Emirates Marketing Project or a Milan
