Tottenham will fine Luka Modric £80,000 after refusing to train as he tries to force through move to Real Madrid

The 26-year-old midfielder was, nevertheless, believed to have boarded the team flight to Los Angeles on Saturday as the squad headed off for a pre-season tour to the United States.
However Spurs did not release a squad list ahead of the flight and there were claims, from Spain, that the player was threatening to refuse to travel.
Modric is now expected to finally hand in a transfer request as he seeks a move to Real Madrid although Spurs insist they will not budge on their valuation of £40million for the Croatian.
Because of Spurs’ determination not to lower the price, then the saga is, as with last summer’s attempts to sign Modric by Chelsea, expected to last until the transfer window closes at the end of August.
Modric refused to train on Friday, ahead of Saturday’s flight, and will be fined around two weeks wages, a basic of over £80,000 in total, by Spurs’s new head coach Andre Villas-Boas.

REAL MADRID hope the cut-price deal they struck for Rafael van der Vaart will help them land Tottenham’s Luka Modric.

Van der Vaart moved to Spurs for £8million two years ago — £9m less than Bayern Munich had offered.

Real want Modric but are unwilling to pay the £35m asking price.

Meanwhile, Giovani Dos Santos has warned Spurs to cash in on him now or risk losing him for nothing.

He said: “I’m leaving this summer or I’ll sign for another club for free in six months.”

Hazard is a great player, but he wasn't even the Lionel Messi of League 1. Come on.

JERMAIN DEFOE is in line for a return to West Ham.
The Tottenham striker is fast becoming the hottest property of the summer – with a host of Premier League clubs keen to sign him.
Defoe rarely featured in the closing months of Harry Redknapp’s reign.
And new Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas hasn’t given the forward any assurances over his future.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is on the lookout for extra firepower, despite the £7million signing of Modibo Maiga, 24, from French club Sochaux last week.
Allardyce has taken a gamble on the 6ft 1in Mali international, who saw a January move to Saudi Sportswashing Machine fall through when a medical showed up a knee problem.
Maiga also has a *reputation for being a maverick, and fell out with Sochaux fans after going AWOL last season.
Defoe, 29, is high on Allardyce’s shopping list – and has a proven record as a Premier League goalscorer.
The striker spent five years with the Hammers before moving to Spurs in 2004.
He is understood to be keen to stay in London, which would give the *Hammers an edge in any talks.
And Allardyce is looking at the England forward as his hopes of bringing in Andy Carroll from Liverpool fade.
Allardyce has been frustrated in his attempts to make new signings.
Having recruited keepers Jussi Jaaskelainen and Stephen Henderson, he has only added George McCartney and Mohamed Diame so far this summer.
Meanwhile, the Hammers are ready to sue Brescia to get money they believe they are owed for Alessandro Diamanti.
The Irons claim they have not been paid money they were due after selling themidfielder for £2m two years ago.
Diamanti – signed from Livorno for £6m in 2009 – was allowed to go home to Italy after just one season, having failed to settle in London.
He then moved on to Bologna earlier this summer following Brescia’s relegation to Serie B.
West Ham are unhappy because they asked for Diamanti’s registration by the Italian Football Federation to be suspended in July last year.
The club acted because they had not been paid a due instalment of their transfer fee by Brescia.
West Ham co-owner David Gold said: “We sold Diamanti to Brescia because he was desperate to return to Italy. He was then sold to Bologna. We are suing Brescia for the money.”

Would the West Ham fans take him back? Not only do they hate Spurs, but they must hate that Defoe jumped ship to us after relegation. Didn't he request a transfer right after the final whistle of the final game?

And I've gotta be honest, I still have a spot for Defoe in my heart. The guy seems to really love Spurs and want to succeed here.

Hope AVB has a place for him

Sky Italia claim Tottenham have made a bid for AS Roma striker Marco Borriello. He has been linked with Werder Bremen & Galatasaray

Defoe might do ok in an Allardyce team actually. A direct style would suit him more than our passing game. Playing off Carlton Cole's knock downs etc.

Graham Hunter an English journalist and a correspondent for La Liga has confirmed Arsenal are way ahead of any other club in negotiating a deal for Santi Cazorla.

Hunter when asked on Cazorla: “This is the big story, Malaga are not paying their players or tax to the Spanish F.A.

"Clubs have been aware of this for a long time. Redknapp had a big interest and Tottenham know a lot about the player”

When asked on a destination for star player Cazorla Hunter continued: “However Arsenal are far better placed, they are further down the road, Arsenal are ahead of every club in Europe to sign Cazorla. He’d fit in perfectly at Barcelona but if Arsenal continue pushing they will sign him”

Arsenal have been quietly linked with Santi Cazorla, 27 who can play in an attacking midfield role or on either wing. Cazorla was the standout player in the Malaga side last season.
