Re: Loic Remy

Didn't someone come on here saying he isn't very good at all playing wide and only performs up front, or vice versa? I remember someone saying that he is awful when played out of his preferred position

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Personally i think he bricks on Lennon in terms of goal threat. His finishing or lack of it is also exaggerated on here. He gets himself in good positions and strikes the ball very well. Is he a bad finisher? he's similar to Luis Suarez in terms of finishing imo, so basically he's not the best in terms of finishing for a striker but he's an excellent finisher for a player that will play cm or a supporting withdrawn role on the right.

Is he a good finisher? Check his goal stats - 1 in 10 roughly playing from all the attacking positions

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

I know Lennon is a fan favourite but we really do need to upgrade on him. That 1 move he has got where he fakes to go one way and goes to the touch line to cross has been found out. Against WBA he did it and the defender was already waiting for the trick before Lennon had even thought about doing it.

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

The fact Levy is off to France 1 day before lockdown is quite telling, imv - you would imagine the chairman would be 'present' on what would be our single most expensive purchase of all time and around 10m more than what we've ever spent on a player.

Unless the Moutinho deal is all but complete, hence the done in 24 hours forecasts. The transfer with Remy or another player in the French leagues could be more complicated therefore meriting Levy being in France.

Do you not think some journo/airport toilet cleaner/common wum - would have picked up on Levy flying / being / walking around in oPorto should that have been the case?

No....they said Moutinho was over here ;)

Come off it, africanspurs aside did any itk predict dembele before the news broke?

No....they said Moutinho was over here ;)

Which is ever more bollox, imv because he would have been spotted already. By now - SSN have their 'DEADLINE DAY EXTRAVAGANZA' cameras in just about every corner, training ground and Burger King

These days very few players can arrive unseen unless they charter a private jet which is unlikely in this particular instance. Remember Pav 4 years ago?

Lloris

Walker
Kaboul
Vert
Ekotto

Remy/Lennon/Willian
Sandro/Parker/Livermore
Dembele/Moutinho
Siggurdson/VDV
Bale/Willian/Remy

Ade/Defoe/Remy/KANE

Some very very good options their

I was posting stats of him vs Modric coz I wanted us to sign him before the rumours... I had absolutely no clue we were going to but I at least advocated it and suggested it would make sense if we did! :)

I was kidding mate - I know they said they saw him but I know that if we believed all of those sightings then our tourist industry would be one if the strongest in the world!

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

He is an AM who can also do the job of a CM.

No, he is NOT.

He is a CM. A very very good CM. Thats where he plays, by everyones admission - including him and his former manager - but yours.

That he started as an AM is neither here nor there. What he is now is a CM.

Sol Campbell started as a striker (even played up front at OT iirc in an emergency) - should we label him a striker?

Ashley Cole another one, Kyle Walker another one - shall we brand these strikers to? No, because they aer not. Just as Dembele is not an AM.

My point is - one of Demebele's strong selling points (both for Levy and AVB) I would imagine was his versatility in the middle third of the field. He can cover numerous positions looks comfortable on the table and most improtantly - carry the ball 'forward' and beat oppoents (often from a standing position)

I agree his versatility is a big asset, but I dont think we would pay £15m for a utility player.

He is, IMO, here to play - and play in HIS position. Otherwise what sense does it make?
1) He is a CM - he wouldnt move to be an AM just for us. His stock is high and on the rise, he could easily hold off until Jan and get a huge move.
2) If we want an AM - we could have brought one, instead of a CM who "can do a job", doesnt make sense at all.

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Where he plays and what he is - different aspects

He does the 'job' very well (excellnt at times) - hence the purchase - he's not merely covering it but pefroming admirably - again, going back to the earlier comment of versatiliy.

If you disagree - fair enough, but I think we'll see him in more advanced than central midfielder positions this year - just my guess - i.e. he will not be a deep-lying playmaker like Modric was.

Pity the chalkboards fell away - massive tool in such debates

Still think there is a high possibility of Moutinho.

I know what you mean, but Lennon manages to pull it off more times than not, no one better at it than him in the PL imho

](*,)

Where he regularly plays IS what he is. He plays CM, has done for over half a season. He has given interviews stating that is what he sees himself as. Jol has converted him to the position and it has worked out brilliantly. He USED TO BE an AM but HE IS NOW a CM.

"He is an AM that can do a job (really admirably) at CM" is a complete nonsense statement. He is better at CM than AM!

I agree his versatility is a massive bonus, huge in fact - but I cannot accept that we would buy a CM knowing full well we wont play him there half the time. Nor can I accept he would sign under those circumstances, why would he? Utd are on his tail, other huge clubs (if not already) will also be in the short term.

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Where he plays is where he's told to play in that specific formation by a manager who wants to utilise him in a specific manner.

Do you want to take a bet he will NOT play as deep-lying playmaker for us this season - at the very least no more than 50% of his games? If you are so confident (and right as ever) - surely you'd have nothing to lose? I'll keep stats of it and you can do so yourself

If that is indeed the case - I will happily admit to have been wrong

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Update on Lloris from Lequipe.

Lyon have told him to leave, they need the money.

Player still undecided. We initially offered him less than what he earns at Lyon. His salary is huge at Lyon. He was expecting us to offer just a bit more than what he earns.

We came back with a better offer last night.

Decision in the next few hours according to Lequipe.

The deal we have agreed is amazing, 11m€ up front + 4.5m€ bonus. Thats 9m£ + 3.5 m£ bonus.
