Re: The 1060 pages and finally a striker summer transfer thread

SSN are saying £33m

They've read this then:

Real Madrid & Tottenham finally agree £33m Modric deal

The playmaker is set to undergo a medical on Monday after agreeing a £120,000-a-week deal with the Spanish champions prior to Euro 2012, bringing an end to protracted negotiations

After a summer of protracted negotiations, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy lowered his asking price as the two clubs settled on a deal worth €42 million (£33.2m) including add-ons for the playmaker.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas’ priority will now be to find a direct replacement for Modric, with first choice Joao Moutinho of Porto still deemed too expensive by the London club. A move for Fulham midfielder Moussa Dembele is being considered after his man-of-the-match display against Manchester United on Saturday.

Modric, 26, agreed a contract worth £120,000-a-week with Real Madrid before Euro 2012 and the Croat has been training on his own over the summer in preparation for a move to the Bernabeu.

He did not figure in any of Tottenham’s pre-season preparations and was not involved in the club’s first two Premier League matches after demanding a transfer to Real earlier in the summer.

He failed to report on time for pre-season training and refused to go on the north Londoners’ pre-season tour to the United States.

This came 12 months after Modric asked for a move from White Hart Lane to Chelsea, which Levy refused to sanction despite a £40m bid before the end of the August 2011 window.

Modric, who cost Spurs £16.5m when he signed from Dinamo Zagreb in 2008, refused to entertain the prospect of a big-money transfer to any club other than Real Madrid, despite interest from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

And as the switched neared on Friday, Modric is understood to have said his goodbyes to staff and team-mates at Tottenham’s training base in Chigwell.

Re: The 1060 pages and finally a striker summer transfer thread

I guess the relationship didn't come into effect in time for us to get Sahin on loan.

Maybe we didn't want him or weren't interested in a loan deal without an option to buy

guillem balague labels daniel levy "the most intelligent man in football". eat that haters

Re: The 1060 pages and finally a striker summer transfer thread

There was an announcement, mate - Willian bid rejected

The block that was preventing us doing our summer business has been removed. We have five days to get our deals done but will have been casting our net for a while. Let's not worry about Willian just yet.

The fact we have only 5 days left is a different argument alltogether - but what does Willian have to do with this?

I'll bear that in mind next time I need someone for the pub quiz. Just need to remember to send him to the bar when it's the transfer window round.

Re: The 1060 pages and finally a striker summer transfer thread

And he said that he is convinced that Daniel Levy is 'one of the cleverest guys in football'...,not the most intelligent.

Re: The 1060 pages and finally a striker summer transfer thread

Haha has Levy inherited that title since Jason Mcateer retired???

Re: The 1060 pages and finally a striker summer transfer thread

Full steam ahead now - let's get the money spent intelligently. Plus, how about a couple of cheeky loans from Madrid ? Who would you have from their squad who isn't starting so far ? Diarra ? Kaka ? Benzema ?

Re: The 1060 pages and finally a striker summer transfer thread

Last Minute Levy obviously thinks this partnership will justify selling Modric late for a lesser fee with no replacement. These partnerships mean squat-we've got four now and bar Sandro (which I think was beforehand anyway) our sum reward is rubbish friendly matches in the middle of nowhere and Khumalo. cheers. sick of our idiotic transfer "policy".

Not forgetting the Oscar deal. That worked out well for us

There's nothing in our partnership that entitles us to their players for a pittance. What I've read is that it relates to players coming through their youth system, which Oscar did not. Anyway, Chelsea's money made it pointless for us to continue our pursuit.

Re: The 1060 pages and finally a striker summer transfer thread

36 more games to go
I admire your patience, and admit I can be reactionary, but I think it's disgraceful we have a chairman who thinks it's fine to give teams a two game headstart to save a few bob. There's canny financial management but then there's taking the ****. And it's the same every year.

Re: The 1060 pages and finally a striker summer transfer thread

Guillem Balague also says we go to the transfer window as equals to Madrid. Not sure what that part is referring to....Maybe the partnership means we take 4 European Cups and a dozen or so Spanish league titles?

Re: The 1060 pages and finally a striker summer transfer thread

Yes, but if we finish a couple points behind 4th then the dropped points in the last 2 games could prove significant.

gonads. if we finish couple points behind 4th then it will because of how we performed over the season
