It doesn't have to be more defensive. Really tired of hearing this formation is attacking and this one is defensive. Any formation can be either defensive or attacking, it's how it's implemented.
The way Son is playing it's like only having 2 attackers anyway and playing with 10 men.

Who plays in the 2 then?
We don’t have any goals form out wing backs this season IIRC so the lack of goals, which is a key to the system succeeding is an issue

Kane and whoever is fit out of Kulu, Richy and Gil. If Kulu and Richy are fit then play 343 with Richy taking Sons place.
But totally agree on the WBs, loads of issues and not saying dropping Son is going to solve everything, but we can't afford to carry a player who is doing nothing.

That just doesn’t work IMO
I agree we can’t carry him but we just don’t have the alternatives right now
Richy may become that (he has a very similar record before signing for us that son did).
Kulu is class but not a central player so far in his career
Gil…. Nah not for me
 
Perisic should be playing LWF instead of Son. Recall Destiny from loan if Sess isn't capable of playing LWB. I've been saying since our third game into the season that Son needs to be dropped, but instead Conte dropped Kulu for Richarlison. If we're going to play 3-5-2, I'd rather see Jamie Donley up top with Kane than Son right now.
 
I wonder if Son will play against Portsmouth. Chance to get another goal or two and Kane will be rested so who else plays?

He's the epitome of a confidence player, there's such a huge difference between when he's going on instinct rather than think about what he should be doing. A hesitant Son is a useless Son. Hopefully he plays if he's up to it.

The difference in his finish between the one he ran through and had time think about it and the one scored were he almost no time to think about it is quite indicative of his confidence level.

I think he will play. Perhaps Kane and Perisic do 45 mins each, and then Son and Gil play the 90?

Not sure who else there is. I guess we cant recall Scarlett....
 
what I liked most about his goal was using his body to make sure he got to the ball over the top, he's normally comes off second best in any physical battle but he actually stepped into that one

Kane winning a header in the buildup was the first in a while too
 
He worked harder than he has recently (as a lot of the team did) and got his just desserts. Fingers crossed his kicks on from here.

Aside from this, during the first 70 mins Son had gone full Torres, there was no directness when he had the ball,he was coughing it up on the halfway line by running into traffic and when he went through one on one when offside we both knew he wouldn't score.
However a shinner that deflected in off the defender when not having time to make a decision and suddenly he's going past players with ease again. Incredible how the mental aspect can really affect players especially attacking one's. Hopefully this will kick off one of those streaks we are so fond of.

5/6 ariel duals won, not bad for someone who never wins one...
