We didn't have Perisic last season and I suspect Son benefited from the space up front.
Good for us depends on who we replace Son with. Perhaps Trossard is a better option with Perisic and Kane up front. He gets into tights spaces well.
I don't think Perisic is the problem.
Son was at his best in transitions, where Perisic is usually deeper anyway. When we're attacking Perisic usually stays fairly wide, not really getting in Son's way.
I think our lack of threat down the right without Kulusevski (and Doherty) has been a bigger cause. Everyone knows the threat Son poses, if opponents can focus on him and we don't have a good threat down the right it's easier to stop Son. And easier to stop Kane giving Son the world class service wry know he can deliver.
The quality on the ball Kulusevski, Romero, Doherty all bring has also been sorely missed at times.
Son is best in transitions (counters and playing through pressure). At times our transition play has been seen ever so rarely. We still break with quality when we get the chance, but it just doesn't happen often enough. Our better players, better ball players, are key to our transition play and have too often been missing.
