Paulinho

Got to say, I'd have preferred to see Ceballos sent on instead. The guy really looked devoid of ideas out there.

Gamechanger

100% agree - he blatantly hides (and has done so since early on last year) and even yesterday he jumps out of challenges and is so laboured on the ball it isn't even funny. A truly awful player for us and i for one see Livermore as far more technical than this guy.

if you were an alien dropped down onto earth and had only read about football - you would have thought that Mason was born and bought up on the beaches of Rio and Paulinho was born on an industrial estate in edmonton.

The quicker he is sold the better - someone will pay £12m I think.

He was ****ing awful when he came on.
The team lost the balance and shape it had before hand. Luckily Eriksen rescued us.

Oh yes of course the team losing shape would all be Paulinho's fault and nothing a striker being replaced with a midfielder and Mason hobbling around the pitch...

Admittedly I was looking after my little one (14 months and she's just learnt to walk so it takes some attention) so I couldn't really concentrate on the game yesterday, but did he really do anything that wrong/badly?? I don't remember him doing anything of note, but equally I can't really remember him cheaply giving the ball away either, which is a pretty standard performance for someone who's just come on as a sub late on in a game.

Well he's meant to be a Brazilian goal scoring midfielder.... he came on, various times did not show for the ball or create an angle so that he could be found with a pass. Took 4 touches to to get it out of his feet when Mason would need one and also jumped out of a challenge towards the end. The guy is shocking and a complete coward to boot

He did what he had to do, slowed the game down and saw out time. As for Livermore, if charlie Adam or lee cater ole had made that tackle we would been burning effigies of them. To make a tackle like that on a booking and already down to 10 men shows rank stupidity.

Don't get me wrong. I think he's awful. Wasn't trying to defend him with my post. Just genuinely didn't see him do anything neither particularly good or particularly bad. Must have missed the 4 touches and the jumping out of a challenge otherwise I'd have been shouting at the tv as I normally am with him. As I said, I didn't really get to pey full attention to the game so must have missed the parts you mention.

He was hiding, that was the main problem. Mason and Eriksen completely ran the game because they were moving and showing for the ball and passing it quickly. The team was tiring, bring in someone with good stamina to midfield allowing Eriksen to push further forward and be the goal threat we know he can be made a lot of sense. But instead of taking part in what had been going on Paulinho was walking around and looked scared to even receive the ball, never mind make a telling run where he had to receive the ball in a slightly tight space.

Honestly I think there's a player in him, I think he might come good for someone. But for us, right now, the distance from where he is to where he's a regular starter seems impossible to traverse.

Meanwhile the rest of the team where trying to get a goal.

Agree! He also started the move that lead to the winning goal with a nice pass through their midfield line. If it was Eriksen that had made that pass, everyone would be full of praise! Didn't do too much other than that, but didn't do anything wrong either in the few minutes he had.

No, he really wasn't that bad at all. He had about ten minutes and the stick he is getting in this thread is absolutely ridiculous.

Agreed. Someone even blamed him for the team losing shape. Nothing to do with our striker coming off and Mason hobbling around of course....

I hate Paulinho, but to be fair, its extremely hard to effectively come on as a sub for 10 minutes. Given we scored the winner in that time it is very harsh to criticise. Saying that as a general point of view I think he does hide and he does pull out of tackles and he does give the ball away in dangerous areas.

I can see the logic of sticking him on in midfield given he's liable to nick the odd late goal.

Nothing new in that though, there always has to be a target for some fans.

OK - next time he plays watch the following.

1. if he shows or makes an angle in the midfield to take the pass (picking the ball up 5 yards from our centre half does not count)

2. If he is able to use the ball with one touch or even two.

3. If he shows for the ball if under pressure from a marker.

4. If he is able to use the ball intelligently and bravely when in possession.

6. If he is able to look over his shoulder to see what is going on when receiving the ball facing our goal (what you are taught to do as 10 year olds)

The fact of the matter is that he has never shown any of this and for 17m that is simply unacceptable. Any premier league midfielder who is scared to get on the ball deserves everything he gets. Awful.

The argument isnt about whether he does any of what you've listed or not - which is open to debate by the way. The consensus is he's not good enough, fine.

But when he comes on and does nothing wrong, just a standard last 10 minute sub performance why is there a need to attempt to find things to criticise him about? Pointless....

Indeed.

All the more bizarre that for a midfielder that got 8 goals in his first season (including some vital, e.g. last minute winner at Cardiff) he gets attacked with such hatred by the people he is supposed to count on as fans. He's barely played this season so these performances are based on last season, when pretty much the entire club was a mess.
