Paulinho

Indeed.

All the more bizarre that for a midfielder that got 8 goals in his first season (including some vital, e.g. last minute winner at Cardiff) he gets attacked with such hatred by the people he is supposed to count on as fans. He's barely played this season so these performances are based on last season, when pretty much the entire club was a mess.

And there lays the problem, so called fans who take a dislike to a player and from that point onwards do nothing but **** them off no matter what they do.

Jenas wasn't a bad player. He was actually someone who got treated badly by our fans and their preconceived ideas.

Paulinho has been really bad

Jenas is a not a bad player, but I think he could have had a better career than we he did have. I used to call him "the floater" as he just kind of floated around in games and occasionally played a blinder. I remember a spell of about 6 weeks when he tore it up and got into the England team, never really built on it.

I'd pretty much go along with that, but that doesn't justify the stick he got on here (not saying you were)....

Speaking of Jenas, does anyone else think he makes a good pundit? I think he comes across well, seems an intelligent guy.....

I never minded Jenas. Him and Carrick complemented each other nicely in midfield. He was exposed a bit after Carrick left and before Moddrs settled. But alongside Carrick he was very effective and for a couple of seasons was on the scoresheet fairly regularly.

Yeah he chipped in with his share of goals, especially against scum.

Fans get frustrated when they see players not fulfilling their potential. I guess sometimes they just assume it's a lack of effort/insert adjective here.

Becoming a top player is more a mental thing, he obviously didnt have the right mentality to reflect his obvious ability. But he was never as bad as was made out by many fans, was constantly labelled things along the lines of 'useless' which was just ridiculous.....

This, Jenas I think frustrated fans because he had all the tools to be truly top level.

To me, we have a current equivalent and it's not Paulinho, it's Dembele, although at his best Jenas was a bit more intelligent than Dembele

My thoughts as well, he had ability to become a very good player but for some reason he never kept it up.
