***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool***

Really disappointing. Liverpool were excellent, very good team for sure.

Overall the first half wasn't that bad. Defended fairly well, kept our shape, worked hard and disciplined. But just about every attempted attacking move broke down in the middle third. First goal symbolic of our issues. A chance to progress into what could have been a decent attacking move, gave the ball away needlessly. They break and score. Quite a lot of their chances came from those situations.

When we tried to change the game after the second goal it was pretty much the same, but worse. Repeatedly unable to progress the ball with any real purpose. And didn't have the energy to do the same ourselves.

Don't know about injuries and fitness, but that starting midfield trio was probably always going to struggle to progress the ball against a cohesive and energetic press.

On the (very small) positive side Danso and Tel looked good.

Anyone believing we were going to to beat Liverpool, need their head examined. At the moment they are just too good, although I genuinely don't know how. They have a couple of outstanding players in Salah and VVD, but other than those, the difference in individual player quality is minimal. But they have experience, and that team has played together for a long time. When our team gets more experienced, there is no reason we cannot get as good as Liverpool.

I've reflected on it a bit.
And I think we were a bit overawed.
Every time they had the ball we sent 1 or 2 players to jog out and jockey them and try to intercept their pass.
Every time we had the ball they sent 17 or 18 players sprinting into our face to smash us and grab the ball and put us on our ass.

We quite wanted to disrupt their flow, as that would be advantageous.
But if we touched the ball they steamed in like rabid dogs and attacked us until we fell over frightened and surprised.

Rabid dogs against skilful hamsters.

The thing is, our opponents press more aggressively than us like that in every game.

It’s amazing how often a still of the game shows us as being in no recognised formation.
All your points are valid. We seem extraordinarily badly coached. In defense we often looks like an elementary school yard when the bell rings. We also need to play everyone in their main position. Maintain a shape. The few times we play a pressing game, it's about one or even two players running after a man, with no apparent desire for controlling an area. It's what poor teams do, and arguably the most exhausting way to play football.

And yes, for a set of professional footballers, we are embarrasingly bad at passing. How is that even possible? Personally, I have a feeling it's about coaching again and a lack of a proper system. When players aren't making pre-determined runs (for lack of a better expression) or actively make themselves available, you are back to where you have to look for a player to pass to, and have to play to foot instead of into space. When you have a team on the other side that tries to make that difficult for you, one of the main points of the game, we have something like what we have now. At least that's the way it looks to me.

And I'm leaning against Ange out, and not because we got spanked by Liverpool. We play out best football when teams underestimate us and play open football leaving space, but not when they're that much better than us. Apart from a precious few short spells, we've had the same exact problems even when he had players available. It just becomes so much more obvious when we face a team like Liverpool. Ange says most things right in interviews and such and seems like a great guy, but it doesn't translate to the pitch. There's no signs that we're moving in the right direction.

Why can't we pass and move?

Can only be bad coaching and/or bad mental conditioning.

It’s strange to me that he’s come out after a couple of recent games - including last night - and said that the players didn’t do what he told them to. It’s difficult not to draw conclusions from that.

Proper coaching and management?

I could be a great great grandmother by the time that happens.

Again it would have taken a miracle, but by the sound of it. It's just the shocking way we went out. We can all take losing if it looked like attempted to play football

Our losses this season had been horrid. Other than away to Castle, in which we played well and should have got a result and maybe another game. It's been inexplicable

Thanks for video. Proper made me laugh

After the initial childish ranting to the display the response on here has been far better than I expected. Anyone thinking an out of form team without any of its regular 5 defenders and 3 leading scorers who have been played into the ground due to a long and extended injury list could go go away to the in form league leaders and win are beyond deluded and living in an other universe.
I'm hoping for a better display and result on Sunday but as our resources and physical condition don't look like improving logic tells me that's unlikely.

I dont think anyone thought we would win the game, but most were hoping for a performance a little bit better than abject. There's nothing deluded about that.

Some people are always going to vent and it's understandable. I haven't seen anyone saying we should have won. But should we have registered a shot on target? Or maybe we should have been in the game at any point?

It was always stacked against us but we could have come away with some credit, I guess Spence and Danso did. But at the minute, it feels quite pointless entering these competitions, we're going to come up against the best teams in England / Europe, if we don't stand a chance because our players are all tuckered out from playing too much football, what is the point? My gut reaction was to switch off as soon as they scored last night, everyone knew what was going to happen. I carried on watching, for the whole game, who knows why. It's a bit like finding out your missus has been cheating on you and making home videos, you already know the result, do you really want to sit and watch your partner get repeatedly fudged?

As for Sunday, we might scrape through to eventually be battered by a better team. It's just prolonging the inevitable. Painstaking pulling the plaster off over a long period of time, that's my analogy for this season. Has it been fun / rewarding to watch it play out?

liverpool were too good.
They were, but we were also very disjointed and as the season progresses we are losing any coherent playing style.

I think now that we have an influx of young talent into the squad, we should attempt to replicate their style. The coaching staff should sit down with a notepad and analyse the video of that match, player by player, and go out and coach it to our lads. I'm serious. I've done this exact thing myself years ago after watching an Ajax youth team dismantle all and sundry at a youth tournie. There used to be a whiff of City's style about us but that is stinking up the place now. We were never technically good enough to pull it off anyway. Pool's high energy style might be a better fit.
Better get some inhalers too.

That’s literally what they do
I suspect that will be the focus of next week with the clear break in between

Well I hope so but I have pretty much given up at this point
I haven’t
Last night was as expected for me
I’ve seen better sours sides brick the bed there time after time
It was a free hit and we gifted them the punches
Sunday is a challenge but one I’m more confident on
Then next weeks break for us is huge IMO
We will have some attacking players back at the end of it
