PC gamers VS Console gamers

I think PC gamers are 90% derp, with console gamers being 97% derp.

That right there makes it worth it to play PC games, but it still means you have to deal with tons of jerk-offs and glue-huffers.

They've ruined it.

;)

Presumably they're aiming for Inglourious Basterds, while badging it with a known franchise to help sales.

Yes it would seem that way mate. Completely destroyed a great franchise imo. Loved Hells Highway and pretty sure that game finished with a "To be continued" type ending so was expecting Brothers in Arms 4 to be a follow on from that... But no we got some flimflam Inglorious Basrterds/Team Fortress mess instead. 4 player co-op? stick it!

I've noticed alot of great games seem to be heading down this easy access, almost arcade like gameplay. Such greats as Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and Rainbow 6 have all been victim. What were once the thinking mans tactical game has now become a more arcade, fast flowing hollywood type interactive experience to appeal to a wider audience. From first impressions of Hitman 6 I got this very same feeling that they are killing off what makes Hitman so great just so they can sell it to a wider, less hardcore gaming audience. Sucks really.

I can't dance with you there mate. I don't miss hearing the little 12yr old bricks shouting abuse down my Xbox headset at all

I totally agree with all the above. What we are witnessing is capitalism at its finest: taking something good, milking every fudging ounce out of it and then watering it down with the brick run-off of pop culture.

But there is hope. The indie game development scene has boomed in the past few years and new projects can find funding through sources like Kickstarter. Developers don't need to rely on brick publishers like EA or Activision any more; they can get tons of money from the actual people that are buying their games. It's kind of a weird idea when you think about buying a game in advance (usually 1 or 2 years), but plenty of people do that already when they pre-order. It's just that the money goes straight into development, right now.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity

That's the kickstarter page for Project: Eternity. I don't know if they've broken any records here, but they've already raised over $2.5 million. Their initial goal was $1.1 million.

Honestly, I'm not into the whole dungeons and dragons thing, and I've gotten so worn out of the same fantasy settings over and over again. However, the development of this game won't be hindered by mega-blockbuster flimflam that any creative piece will go through, so I'm hoping that it makes for a better, deeper game that won't shy away from intelligent, tactical play.

Certainly looks interesting. And I do miss the old Baldurs Gate type games.
It is a shame almost all games seem to be heading down the COD road of cashing in on the same old tripe coz people will buy it. Arcade hollywood action with achievements and upgrades and DLC, thinking this is all peole want. But I miss the old Splinter Cell games that took several attempts to complete a mission after being caught 100s of times. Or planning your mission on the old Rainbow 6 games.

Resi Evil is another game thats lost its original appeal. Hence why I prefer Dead Space (even if it is EA). Just started Dead Space 2 and after 30mins in its clearly twice as scary and atnospheric as the first... Just what I was hoping. Gonna order sone new pants

First 10mins of Dead Space 2. Sets the bar for gore and scares for the rest of the game. Think also the fear of helplessness at the start where your unarmed and wandering dark hospital corridors full of dead mutilated bodies... Awesome game!

Just be like me and refuse to play with anyone! I hate the idea of MMO. I don't mind massively other people you can interact with if you can be arsed. But the idea that you HAVE to join guilds or play with other people to get anywhere in a game gets on my tits. As for headsets, I wouldn't even use one.

Loving Kickstarter as well btw, Carmageddon 2 is on its way :D

Im with you mate. I only play BF3 online but the likes of World Of Warcraft really dont interest me in the slightest. Whenever I hear company is gonna make an MMO I just think "nooo just cary on making quality singleplayer games". Heard Valve are workin on one... They should be making Half Life 3!!! Also heard the makers of Dead Space wanna make one too... No! Stick to making more Dead Spaces!!

Did you get CS:GO? I've yet to try it out... visually looks alot better but dunno what features they've added or taken away from the original. Also if you wanna purchase games for Steam or Origin or whatever gaming platform you use, then always worth visiting http://www.ultimatumgamekeys.co.uk as the savings can be quite substantial (eg Dead Space 3 pre order on Origin is £39.99 but on here it's £23.38!!!). The benefits of PC gaming is how dirt cheap you can get the games, even on release day! Yes it may cost a few bob building a system that'll cope with todays games BUT in the long run if you buy alot of games you'll save in that department as console games take a while to drop in price.
Not to mention as I said a few pages back, 1080p gaming with Anti-Alaising (two things consoles don't have... yet) is so pleasing on the eye. Makes games such as Dead SPace, 4yrs old, cut it with games of today visually.

As for Batman Arkham City. £12.99 is cheap. It's only a couple pence cheaper on that site I mentioned above... BUT you can get both Arkham City and Arkham Asylum for another £3.40 if you fancied revisiting the first game again? http://www.ultimatumgamekeys.co.uk/en/game/buy-batman-series-bundle-pack-key-steam.html

Thanks, I'll check out that page a little bit closer tomorrow. GOG.com is also nice, but I guess people here know this one.

Haven't tried CS:GO yet, but it's definitely on the list. The decline in usable public servers is remarkable since last time I played, but I still think that I'll prefer 1.6 to it.

Ok sticking with the Survival Horror in Space theme I recently stumbled across this awesome looking game. Set in an 80's vision of the future it's said to be a non-linear free-roaming survival horror set on a Moon Base... bricking my pants already!! Can't wait!

Dont worry about that BiA video, its from last year. They've since revealed they're turning it into a new game altogether, while losing the Brothers in Arms name.

Only sad news is that no new BiA game seems to be in the pipeline...

As much as people deride steam, I do enjoy the fact that I can easily install games on multiple computers (only can run on one anyway, but that IS what I paid for).

I have no problems with Steam or Origin. I know alot of people hate them but I honestly dont have any issues. They are both expensive for new releases (£29.99 to £39.99) but then thats why I use Ultimatum Game Keys or other Game Key websites as you save a shedload on new games. Not paid full price since owning my PC.
I also like the fact I dont have to rely on the Postman to get my game to me

That's OLDDDDDDDDDD news, that was shown at e3 2011. They've now dropped it from the BIA stable, it's just called furious 4 now, and they're working on a BIA sequel

I read bout it last yr in a PC Gamer mag but didnt pay it much attention. I got that video from the pre order page for "Brothers in Arms: Furious 4"

FIFA13 career mode is fudged. it freezes every time i try and approach a player to sign on permanent basis. apparently EA are in full cluster-fudge-recovery mode and will be releasing a patch for PC today and PS3 and Xbox later this weekend :S

bastards.

Just ordered Dishonored! £25 on Amazon. So with that arriving Monday I really need to complete Dead Space 2 this weekend (on Chapter 6 and first game had 12) which is awesome if I havent already said so ;)

Theres a new(ish) feature on Steam called Greenlight. Its basically a chance for Steam users to give indie games the greenlight on whether they become available on Steam or not. Routine (the moon base survival horror video i posted recently) is one of the games given the greenlight.
But another game thats been greenlit and available as of the 15th, is Black Mesa! Its basically a fan made reboot of Half Life using Half Life 2's graphics and physics engine to bring it up to date. But the best thing is it will be available completely FREE!!!

Check it out here:
