*** Official Video Game Thread ***

Saw Dead Space 3 pre order advertised and realised Ive had DS 1 and 2 on my PC for ages yet never finished 1 and not even played 2!!

So started Dead Space again... I fudgein love this game. Better than most of the newer Resi Evils imo. Absolute belter! Cant wait to finish it and get stuck into 2.
Also even tho its 2008 so 4yrs old, on the PC with 1080p it still looks great... 1080p makes so much difference I think. Makes consoles look terribly dated

Thinking of getting that, well it's either start that or the Bioshock series.

Downloaded the demo for the new Res Evil recently, not a fan! Bring back the old Res Evil, not necessarily the restricted settings but the low ammo count, the puzzles, the slow moving zombies and the suspense! So much better than the newer ones.

Agreed. Not played Resi since Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Not too keen on its new direction. Not played 4 or 5 so dunno whether to get 6?
Dead Space 1 & 2 are cheap now as i said 3 is due out pretty soon. Dead Space does a great job of bricktin you up lol. Been playin tonight in the dark with headphobes and ive jumped a few times

Altho you got a tough choice as Bioshock was awesome. Not played Bioshock 2 yet tho.

Not played the XCOM demo yet thats been sittin on my Steam account for a while. Moreexited bout Dishonored

The demo is naff aparently. Most people coming away from it with a sour taste so better to hold out for a better demo or the actual game I reckon.

I never could get into Bioshock for some reason. Not sure why. I find so many of the FPS games are just button mashers and not much thinking to be done with them. Agree with Jurgen, I much prefer puzzles, low ammo count, sneaking etc.

The demo was pretty bad and not representative of the final game. For some reason, it's very linear and holds your hands through two missions without letting you play with loadouts or any customization.
GameSpy has given XCOM a full 5/5. This is great news for fans of the original. There were some annoyances and bugs that they mentioned, but the actual gameplay is absolutely peerless (except the original, of course). Just preloaded the game, can't wait to play it.

Ooooh, you sneaky Russian. Was it released today in US or do you preload it and license lets you start from tomorrow? You crazy cats and your Steam downloading bizzle.

Nope, all releases occur on Tuesdays. The game is sitting on my HD, just needs to be "activated", which takes a few minutes once the game officially releases (usually midnight, but not always the same timezone). Might be able to get some XCOM action in late tonight, but not sure if I can afford to lose any more sleep (I'll tell myself I'll only play for half an hour, until I realize I hear birds chirping).

Nice, give us some feedback before you call in sick and then try to get a power nap before hitting it all day tomorrow :D

GHod damn steam corrupt files... turns out restarting steam fixes it, but I ended up re-downloading it overnight. going to try to sneak a mission in during work.

Right off the bat the experience has been completely different from the demo. I decided the game needs my full concentration so I can't keep playing half-assed at work (just finished a huge project so I have some downtime), but I'll let you know my thoughts after I can sink a few hours into it. It's actually been kind of difficult since I'm trying to prevent any casualties, and this is just on Normal.

This game looks amazing, curse my three year old computer!

I think you should have no problem running it. If you have a dual-core 2ghz processor, a fairly recent video card (if it's not discrete, the game may chug a bit), and 2gb of RAM you should be fine.

Well fudge you very much postman, we haven't had any mail today... We don't ever not get mail as we get business post... OF ALL THE DAYS!

Turns out the tutorial is a bit more in-depth than the one in the demo, but I had to cut my lunchtime playthrough short because I had to drop a massive deuce.

I think I'm still on the tutorial.

Was playing one mission after another like brick so all my soldiers except 3 got injured (and a few dying along the way). I had capacity for 5, but didn't realize I had to recruit soldiers a little bit in advance before they become eligible for a mission. I wasn't really thinking my actions through and was moving a bit too aggressively. The dice rolls sometimes go your way, but relying on high-risk moves to carry me through was not a good approach for me.

Out of necessity, I had to use a different approach with only 3 soldiers (2 of them were still rookies). Moved behind cover a lot and used Overwatch instead of dashing to the furthest reaches. Also, I tried to keep all my units closer together instead of trying elaborate flanking maneuvers. I'll keep posting my thoughts tomorrow after I get a few more missions done.

Just completed Dead Space! Absolutely epic game, dunno why I never finished it in the first place. Has a great twist at the end and of course left wide open for the sequal (which Im installing now). Just read a preview on DS3 too and thats sounding like it hasnt dropped in form at all from the previous 2 games. Has now become my favourite survival horror game!

Also read some reviews of Dishonored and it seems the game lives up to its hype. Heard its a cross between Assassins Creed and Bioshock among others... Which if pulled off well is a very good combo indeed. Will have to see when its released next week

I decided to spend my hard earned Mastercard cash on a new computer, used to be an avid pc gamer before, but I've been a console guy for the last 5-6-7 years. During this time I forgot that when playing on pc one needs the right equipment. I guess it's redundant to tell you how brick wireless stuff is, but I'll receive a brand new Logitech G4 in the mail tomorrow. I already have a piece of hash so now I just need a game to play.
Haven't really checked what I want to play yet, but Dishonored looked sweet. I'll need also need to buy Arkham City, 12.99 on steam seems like a good price. I'll probably take a jab at Max Payne 3 also when the price drops. So far I've only bought CS, but I've spent thousands of hours with that game so it was a must, even if I'm not going to play it as much.

Did you get CS:GO? I've yet to try it out... visually looks alot better but dunno what features they've added or taken away from the original. Also if you wanna purchase games for Steam or Origin or whatever gaming platform you use, then always worth visiting http://www.ultimatumgamekeys.co.uk as the savings can be quite substantial (eg Dead Space 3 pre order on Origin is £39.99 but on here it's £23.38!!!). The benefits of PC gaming is how dirt cheap you can get the games, even on release day! Yes it may cost a few bob building a system that'll cope with todays games BUT in the long run if you buy alot of games you'll save in that department as console games take a while to drop in price.
Not to mention as I said a few pages back, 1080p gaming with Anti-Alaising (two things consoles don't have... yet) is so pleasing on the eye. Makes games such as Dead SPace, 4yrs old, cut it with games of today visually.

As for Batman Arkham City. £12.99 is cheap. It's only a couple pence cheaper on that site I mentioned above... BUT you can get both Arkham City and Arkham Asylum for another £3.40 if you fancied revisiting the first game again? http://www.ultimatumgamekeys.co.uk/en/game/buy-batman-series-bundle-pack-key-steam.html
