Official - Holtby

10 times better than Jenas Junior in the middle of the park. Bentelab should have gone out on loan.

I thought Paulinho was the new Jenas. Or was that Paulinho? I'm quite sure it was Livermore.

Can you guys please keep your infantile insults of Spurs players consistent and organized if nothing else? It's very confusing...

Pretty sure Everton ripped us apart time and time again, same as City and Palace in the first half. The boy has obviously got some talent but when we do not have the ball he is shocking. I think people on here are giving him far to much credit just because he is one of our youngsters. He is no better than Livermore and i have to say Livermore is much better defensively.

Yeah, ripped us apart time and time again and as a result of that got 3 shots on target all game. It was like we had no midfield at all.

Everton dominated us in those opening 10 minutes, at a time when the entire team was playing poorly. Blaming that on Bentaleb seems very strange to me, illustrated by how we stopped them from creating chances once the team picked themselves up after those 10 poor minutes.

Sherwood has explicitly stated that he sees Lamela (and Chadli) as options for that 'number 10' slot behind a lone striker when talking about how we would cope without Defoe.

Would still argue Holtby's talent has been criminally undervalued. Why spunk so many millions on no less than FOUR MORE potential no 10s (Eriksen, Chadli, Lamela, Paulinho) when we already had Holtby - not to mention Siggy - available for that position in the first place?

Presumably because whoever made the decision to sign those players thought those players signed were better or had the potential to become better than Holtby.

For Eriksen and Lamela I undoubtedly agree with them, at least on potential. Jury is still out on Chadli, although he's also primarily as wide player I think. Paulinho has been hit and miss, but I'm still positive.

Which is precisely my point. Ie in buying so many attacking midfielders we revealed just how little we valued the gem we already had in our midst that is Lewis Holtby.

Eriksen I agree looks an excellent purchase but whilst no one would question Lamela's skills on the ball it's all about knowing when to release it. The sooner he acquires that particular skill the better, otherwise he's in danger of turning out to be like that other profligate David Bentley, a big waste of money.

Not blaming it all on him but when a central midfielder has no idea how to defend it sort of opens up gaps. you only need 1 person to create gaps and the game can be won and lost by that alone.

Can you not see the difference in talent between Bentaleb and Livermore?

I don't think he had that good of a game tbh. He created one chance.
That break at the end where Rooney gets back and outspaced him (even though holtby had a huge lead) shows how ridiculously slow he is too.

And he he poped up all over the pitch to get a touch of the ball as usual.
Look at his passes received. He will never stick to a position.

Bentaleb can make a couple of splitting passes now and then. Thats about it.

His first touch is on a different level, and he moves the ball more quickly. He also makes more tackles and interceptions per game than the 'much better defensively' Livermore.

Not saying he's the finished article, far from it. But he's a much much better footballer than Livermore.

I blame Richardson for the break where Rooney cut out the pass, he delayed the pass far too long and in the end left it too late.

This. I honestly cannot believe that people here are seriously suggesting that he is only on a par ability wise with Jermain Jenas and Jake Livermore. You can literally see from ten minutes of him on the pitch that Bentaleb has more to his game than either of them.

How is Jenas? Is he playing much, do they rate him?

Looked good again in the MOTD highlights against Liverpool. Decent little chip into Bent in the build up to their first chance and then a great little pass around Skrtel later on creating another good chance.

It was one game against a **** poor Saudi Sportswashing Machine side lets not get ahead of ourselves (again).

I'm taking a cautious approach with Bentaleb as the list for players who burst on the scene and flopped is massive compared to the successful players.
