Got to agree with this.
I would keep defoe around as a 3rd choice striker and at his age i don't see him wanting to move anywhere else and he would still get games for us. We need an ade who is not crap not sure sure if it is because he has got his contract or what but he has been so poor this season, when he comes back from the arfican nations he will have a chance to save his spurs career.
Dempsey has impressed me after i slagged him off at the start of the season so for me it goes to show what a player with maybe not the best skills but obviously decent ones can do with an amazing work rate and a lot of heart. He also has clearly listened to the coach and runs in the areas where the coach wants.
I would sign one striker in the summer getting rid of ade and have defoe and dempsey as back up while keeping an eye out for another young striker in the bentake mould to bring in over the next year.

I would argue that he isn't good too challenge for 4th place. The evidence is clear but I guess its just a difference of opinion.

Yep we need 3 pure strikers but i think the issue is clouded by Dempsey a player i could not stand to start with and i was wrong on him. He is a good option he can play different positions and score goals. Maybe if we had him as a right winger or back up to lennon but then i think we would not get the best out of him.

why not take the whole picture?
people did the same with harry when our form dipped....ALL the good work he did meant nothing because of a 2 month dip
defoe has been our main scorer for most of the season ...he dips in recent games and then the evidence is there to support that he isnt good enough for top 4?
was the evidence there earlier on in the season by any chance? when he starts getting his confidence or form back...will the evidence still be there or will it go away?

It looks like 2009/2010 all over again for Defoe, great 1st half of the season, abysmal 2nd half. We've seen enough of him now to know what he's all about, too often in the big moments, in the big games he lacks composure. Good player but not a great one, we need better.

Because what we have might not be enough to get 4th, if we had better strikers, we'd be almost guaranteed it.

good read, i can see you assumption on defoe. you're probably right
i just feel that in this current league........defoe, ade and an attacking midfielder that can deputise as a forward in dempsey is more than enough for what our goals are.

Defoe with confidence smashes that chance first time. Defoe on a very frosty day with low-ish confidence took an insurance touch he doesn't usually take. As long as he keeps getting in positions, I am absolutely certain his fortune in front of goal will turn and he will start scoring freely again.

I don't know. The last decade of form suggests he's returned to normal after a brief blip in the autumn, rather than vice versa.

He took a touch, because the ball was not quite in the right position for a first time shot, the pass did not quite have enough pace on it he would have had to toe poke the ball, which would not have given a great angle to score from. He wanted it on his right foot as well. In hindsight it was the the wrong decision but on another day it would have been the right one. He shot was ok, it was just that the defender got a block in.

we say this a lot with defoe, reminds me of what les ferdinand was like with us, opposition keepers always had their best games of the seaosn against us.

There's a lot of people being very harsh on JD today, unlucky not to score just after RVP did, great reaction shot and very good save from De Gea.
The 2nd half chance, you really have to give Ferdinand more credit, it was a great block
