Kyle Walker

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

If in the summer we were to put Walker up for sale , how much would be a realistic price and how many clubs would want him?

I think we'd get £15m easy. Maybe even £30m if we could convince Liverpool they want him.

He's young he's English and he has the physical talents to make it in the premiership.

more to the point how much would it cost to improve on him?

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

What was the tip-off, yesterday's coiffure? When I was a kid, I used to fear that my hair might look something like that...

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

I'd have to watch it again. I suppose we will never quite know if he was indeed berating for not releasing earlier or because he over hit it. I think Dembele has waited before to release the ball, but I think that's just the style of player he is, he would thrive next to someone like a Modric, a Pjanic etc who can split the defence, release early etc.

I just think it's clueless and shows lack of brain, instead of trying to beat with skill or get a ball in early, he just tries to beat a man with pace and it rarely comes off (as the player just blocks him and ends up getting the foul because Walker pushing in the back of him or he over hits it for a goal kick).

Can you tell me how many full backs beat opposing full backs by out right skill? One on one both Lennon and Bale don't posses the skill to beat players outright, they rely on running with the ball at speed - why should we expect our full back to be a box of tricks?

It's not easy bombing up and down a flank twenty odd times a game, and it's a sad state of affairs if we are relying on our right back to be one of our main creative forces....

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

Haha of course there's going to be the odd instance where he has, but let's be fair he beats players through pace and power. When there is no space, one on one he isn't effective because he doesn't tend to beat a man through a piece of skill like a Messi type does.

Thanks for that though, didn't see that game and enjoyed that clip...

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

I thought he played well - what the hell are you guys chatting about Jeez.

Ok fine he was our only attacking outlet so he may have looked better in, what I considered to be, a dull Spurs team yesterday

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

If he really was poor against Everton how many chances did they create down our right hand side? I struggle to remember much of anything happening down that side. They missed Pienaar, but Baines was essentially not a threat at all.

He's far from perfect and far from a fully developed player. He has a lot of potential though. How many on here rated Zabaleta as a top right back 3-4 seasons ago? Johnson was laughed out of Chelsea, now he's being talked of as a top class right back (primarily by Liverpool fans, but still). Ekotto has been a very good player for us over years after a lot of people made him out to be a flop when he was older than Walker is now. I could go on, but I can't be bothered.

Yeah, there aren't that many skill merchants left in the game. Ben Arfa's one.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

Taarabt another. That's why I really didn't want to sell him, when teams defend deep to decrease the amount of space to run into you need someone who can beat a man one on one. Moses is another, would have liked him.

Anyway, like others have alluded to can't believe the criticism Walker is getting on here. He got an assist, noone got the better of him and he's a young player who is still learning and under the coaching of AVB will get a lot better with the attributes he has. It's ridiculous....

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

He didnt actually get an assist, as Adebayor shot and it came off the post so cant see how that is an assist.

Sorry, he is our weakest link and all he has is pace IMO. He has been dog brick all season, cant actually remember him having one good game

For the sake of argument I can agree to that. He is still one of our youngest regular starters. We've seen players like Kaboul, Dawson and Ekotto look like our weakest link at similar ages or even when older than Walker is now.

He has more than just pace. Pace is certainly his strongest attributes, but that doesn't mean that he has nothing else. Pace is also incredibly helpful for fullbacks. There are things he needs to improve on for sure, but I think there's a good chance that he can improve on those things.

He has had several good games. Like against Everton for example. Once again, when in that game did we look troubled down our right hand side? What were the examples of him getting his positioning wrong or anything like that?

I think people's expectations were raised unrealistically by all the praise he got last season.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

And for the sake of argument I will agree to that.

Ok I am a bit harsh but he has been awful compared to his young PFA season last year. I just can't believe how backwards he has gone that's all.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

He didnt play well yesterday IMO. He did well for the goal, but most of the time he didnt do anything that helped us when attacking. His positioning defending was awful. he adds nothing when going forward. He will never cross it, and he will hardly ever beat a man. 9 times out of 10 he will slow play down and cut back to a player rather than take on the left back or put a cross in. Sometimes the ball is begging to be crossed in first time but he doesnt do it.

I just dont think hes a good player at all. Pace and thats it.

This.. Find it really frustrating. Like the Vertongen cross for the first goal. Walker needs to get on the training pitch and practice.

If all he has is pace I can only assume he's never made a tackle, created an opportunity or scored....

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

I thought Walker was really good against everton ? :-k

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

He was good against Everton, just needs to be able to deliver an early cross and beat the first defender with that cross. I don't mind his defending, for me that comes more and more with experience. He is at the minute one of the best in the premiership in his position. There are very few that are better.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

Havent we gone through this in an earlier post?

I would rather have

Rafael
Zabaletta
Johnson
Sagna
Ivanovic

There are probably more from teams like Swansea, Everton or West Brom (I dont actually know who plays there) that I would rather have in the Spurs team. And he has had an extremely poor season so to say that he is one of the best at the minute .....
