Kyle Walker

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

Believe in him. I know he makes the occasional error - which have been devastating for us this season, but there are plenty others, a lot older than him, making basic passing mistakes. He had a great season last year, he will learn from his mistakes and be stronger for it in the long run. Remember, he has to push forward esp if no Lennon & there appears to be little support for him, when he needs to get back. At least he makes an attempt.

First i've heard today of him berating Holtby; anyone able to shed a light on why?

Absolutely

I know which incident he was talking about - when he tried to keep it in by handling right by the edge touchline.

I thought he was ok today. He was one of our better players but I thought we werent very good today.

You mean Walker handballed it? Is that the one where he recived a poor pass which was overhit and too high? (Was listening on the radio)
Was that really Holtby who passed that? I thought they said it was someone else

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

People need to lay off him. Has a lot of qualities, just needs good coaching and to get experience and he'll be a top class RB

Its not as if we would be able to sign better

It was Dembele who passed it. Who Walker was tinkled off with I don't know.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

in the absence of Bale and Lennon, Walker was our best attacking outlet. Wish he'd work on his crossing a bit but he's certainly not one the players I'd like to see pushed out.

I think he was tinkled off (quite rightly) with Dembele who took four touches too many before passing the ball to him (as he often does). He was in acres when Dembele first looked up and had he passed it there and then would have had a run at the fullback. As I've said before, Dembele needs to learn when to hold the ball and when to release it if he wants to push on to become a really really great player for us.

Thought Walker was quality today going forward but please please STOP with the stupid fouls in silly areas.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

Doesn't matter mate, you don't berate your teammates, ever.. Especially when you're the teams most error prone player.

What a load of crap, Roy Keane is the greatest captain the premiership has seen and he demanded the best. If your upset by a gonading, grow up and do the job properly!

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

"quite rightly" ?.. so you condone a player, who is usually at fault for the majority of our goals, who moans at one of our best players this season for misplacing a pass 20 MINUTES, yes 20, into the game?

He was good the last 15 minutes, other then that he looked like his clueless self, kicking the ball past players and relying on pace to get on the end of his own little pass. It's like he discovered a brain the final 15 minutes and done the simple things, it was a great pull back for the equalising goal.

Like I said, he wasn't berating him for misplacing the pass (at least I hope not, becuase I don't agree with that),he was berating him for not playing the pass earlier, had he done so he would have created an excellent attacking oppurtunity. Walker was showing his frustration in the same way that Bale has on multiple occassions this season when he's opened up space for a through ball and is on the run but Dembele choses to hold on to the ball/cut inside.

Don't get me wrong, I rate Dembele and he has been in a different league than Walker this season, but I can see why it would be very frustrating playing with him at times.

Not really sure what is wrong with kicking the ball past players and relying on pace to get by them?

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

He didnt play well yesterday IMO. He did well for the goal, but most of the time he didnt do anything that helped us when attacking. His positioning defending was awful. he adds nothing when going forward. He will never cross it, and he will hardly ever beat a man. 9 times out of 10 he will slow play down and cut back to a player rather than take on the left back or put a cross in. Sometimes the ball is begging to be crossed in first time but he doesnt do it.

I just dont think hes a good player at all. Pace and thats it.

I'd have to watch it again. I suppose we will never quite know if he was indeed berating for not releasing earlier or because he over hit it. I think Dembele has waited before to release the ball, but I think that's just the style of player he is, he would thrive next to someone like a Modric, a Pjanic etc who can split the defence, release early etc.

I just think it's clueless and shows lack of brain, instead of trying to beat with skill or get a ball in early, he just tries to beat a man with pace and it rarely comes off (as the player just blocks him and ends up getting the foul because Walker pushing in the back of him or he over hits it for a goal kick).

His pace is his main attribute so he is going to rely on it a little, Bale does the same thing when hes one on one with a full back (only he's much much better at it!). My hope is that, at the age of 22 (or 23??) these are the things he can learn, when to go at the full back and when to get the ball in early, where to position himself defensively etc etc. I suppose my overall point is that he has great potential providing he has the brain and the willingness to learn he could turn out a great player, but it needs to happen within the next couple of years.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

If Walker is the face of the future at Tottenham, than we are in a world of trouble.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

If in the summer we were to put Walker up for sale , how much would be a realistic price and how many clubs would want him?

I think we could easily double out investment, so that would be around the GBP 10m mark.

But why would you want to sell him in the first place.

I thought he had an excellent game against Everton and he's still learning his trade - don't forget that this is the first full season he's been in our senior team.
