Kyle Walker

He was excellent last night, but there is no doubt he has regressed in the last 12 months. His positional sense is poor and he has a knack for giving away needless free kicks in dangerous positions. He tends to lose his head a bit on occasion too. I think we just need some decent competition for him, and by decent competition I don't mean Kyle Naughton.

Great effort by the lads last night! One big last push for the champs league now! Great support from the fans Aswell #COYS

He came in last season and was very good, but was massively overhyped by the media, this season he has struggled to match that form but at 22 that was always going to happen. Give the kid a chance because he will get better and will turn out to be a top FB.

Walker or Bale... who's quickest over say 50m?

Gareth, judging by this counter attack, with Lennon marginally faster than Walker too... just a shame that Defoe failed to pass to any of them for what would've been one of the all time quickest counter attacks, the 3 of them took barely 10 seconds to sprint from our box into Inter Milan's!

That didn't look like Walker at full pelt though, like when he's trying to catch up to someone who's got a head start on him towards our goal.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

Exactly. Thank F**k we didnt do the same thing with Bale (and before anyone jumps on me, I'm not saying that Walker will reach anywhere near the heights of Bale, but some perspective is required)

But fans DID say that about bale, wanted rid etc. that's because spurs fans, sorry, fans in general, are utterly fudging clueless. Amyoe who wants to sell walker and thinks he's not good enough is, I'm sorry, a macaron with no patience or understanding of football. His raw ability is immense and almost unparalleled in his position. We are lucky to have him.

Sorry, but fans being wrong about one player (Bale) makes fans 'utterly fudging clueless'?

That's a bit of a ridiculous proposition. It's not just fans that get these things wrong from time to time either. Managers and scouts don't have a perfect record. That's just the nature of football.

I like Walker too, this has nothing to do with that.

He's right though. Fans a very knee jerk. There's no perspective used when watching football. Walker will be a useless **** one day and then one of the best right backs the next, when really neither are true. He's a good right back who's still learning the game and a new style with AVB. I wouldn't like to lose him.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

Walker has a big future here, he is an incredible athlete - strong, quick, can run all day. While he improves, he has his pace to bail him out of most situations. I think the Fulham and Basel home games we really missed him bearing in mind we were also missing Lennon.

People used to say Dani Alves was a liability, but he has made use of his incredible physical attributes and improved mentally and technically. Like Walker he often gets caught out due to his playing style, but players like this can afford to bomb forward, be caught too high up the pitch and use their pace to recover. When used properly they can pin back threats on their flank or drag a central midfielder wide as they attempt to protect their full-back from becoming overloaded.

The only way he'll improve is to keep playing him. I think in 3 or 4 years we'll have one of the league's best full-backs.

I have shouted plenty of abuse at Walker from the stands... he is infuriating sometimes, doesn't stop him from having a lot of potential. Let's be honest, who could we realistically sign who would be better than him/ Naughton and willing to share game time? If we're gonna sign a full-back it should be a left-back IMO.

^Walker will be first choice next season of that i have no doubt. id imagine that RB is the last position that our scouting team (lolz) are on the hunt for

Ekotto will be sold im almost certain. I reckon Levy/Sherwood will be pushing for Danny Rose to be given a chance as first choice LB

Walker lacks a brain, but to improve on him is incredibly difficult, not to mention costly.

great video that one. defoe won it though!

Walker has been excellent recently and deserves a lot of credit. Great energy going forward and he seems to be improving defensively, hasn't misplaced as many passes either.

I haven't been surprised to see him being unstable this season, he's young and I didn't rate him as highly as some did last season although I thought he had tremendous potential. I don't think we've seen the last of his instability either, but I can live with that. For now he's been performing brilliantly and long may it continue.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

I would only take Zabaleta out of that lot to play RB. Ivanovic was a nightmare with the high-line under AVB and isn't first choice RB at his club, gets more games as CB now. Rafael I don't fancy at all.. he would get sent of every month if he wasn't at Utd, dirty player. Johnson and Walker are very much similar and Sagna is IMO gone as a top flight player and will leave Arsenal in the summer.

If Walker became available, every team above where you spoke of them having better RBs would be interested in Walker.

One of the positives of mega threads, you can see who said what 2 years ago.

Well not quite 2 years, but still :)

Totally agree

He was magnificent last night... and has been good recently.

I like your analysis there ... and also having lennon there doesn't really showcase Walker's talents that much - both too attack minded and that leaves Walker always with half a mind on the hole left behind. i think a Beckham type RM with excellent distribution and hold up play would suit Walker best.
