Ingerlund

And I'm sure he'll waltz back into the team too despite not having done one thing to deserve it.

Apart from being MOM in his last three England games you mean? he may be the biggest arsehole in the world and the most injury prone, however when/if fit he is a very good player, the bias against this guy because he plays for the Arse ( not saying you) by some supporters is cringe worthy.

A big season for Spurs next year, and after the effort put into this season I for one would be quite happy for our players to sit on the side lines watching all our competition run themselves into the ground for a lost cause.
All our English players have plenty of time to play at international tournaments. And missing out this year will only make them hungrier.

Mate when is the last time he played a competitive match? I think he's a good player but not what he was. Even that aside I am firmly of the opinion that you need to earn your place back in the team by playing well for you club team.

I had a very high opinion of Wheelchair's ability. A couple of seasons back he certainly had something about him. A drive and awareness which marked him out from similar players but repeated injuries and maybe his lifestyle off the pitch has seen him loose that edge. I think those good England performances were not in keeping with his club performances at that time if I recall correctly.

I do agree he has to earn his place in the team and that is why I said if he gets fit and plays at the level he is capable of he should be in the squad, now I do not know IF that is possible but we will not know until he returns. One thing I do know that If he returns at his best he is a far better player then the likes of Milner, Drinkwater, Lalana just to name three. We shall see.

My post about the biais of some Spurs against him was not directed at you personally more at those who can not see past the fact he wears a red shirt :)

Well it goes without saying he is a massive dingdonghead but I like to think I can see past his obvious personality defects and his allegiances.

Yes I agree that the ceiling of his ability is well above those three mentioned. If he gets back to where he was a season or more back then he's a shoo in for the squad, but with games running out I really don't think he should be considered unless he has half a dozen decent to good performances under his belt before the end of the season. I don't rate Drinkwater that highly at all but I guiess he is playing well enough to be considered ahead of him based on form and fitness. I have a feeling Roy will pick Wheelchair if he gets back on the pitch at all before the end of the season.

That's not fair. I dislike him even when wearing their yellow away kit.

I think the concern with Rooney and Wheelchair that they will be brought into the squad without proving they are fit, on the hope that they will be fit later in the tournament. We've see this too many times.

I I can't dance with most of that ( and to be honest I am not that bothered about England anyway), but if we are to do something in the summer then we need to take players who have the ability to change games when needed.

Can Wheelchair do that? who knows but IF he can get his fitness back and proves it on the pitch then he should go. I get your point about unfit players and one of the reasons I stopped following England was when Sven took two unfit players ( Owen and Rooney) a giraffe ( Crouch) and a 16 year old kid to a tournament. And as you say its happened since and will happen again I guess, but that is down to England managers having to try and pick players who can compete at the top and England have lacked in that department for years ( and that includes the so called " Golden Generation").

Golden Generation. Yeah.

I don't think Rooney is right for the tournament on fitness & form grounds.

I don't think he adds anything as Captain or is able to postively influence things around the squad.

I'll be happy when the last of the strikers (as in backing Rio by threatening not to play in a Euro 2004 qualifier) is gone from the England scene.

I have no love for Rooney and he has been for me one of the most over rated players in the Prem for years, however I would take him as a back up player and for his experience of these competitions. But for me he should be out of the England squad after this.

It takes a professional player 10 games to become fully match fit, Wheelchair is pushing the envelope for this currently

Luke Shaw hasn't played since September. But he's in the squad ahead of the PFA Team of the Year left-back Danny Rose? o_O

Just further proof that the manager doesn't pick the squad freely.

Or that he wants to keep some stability in the squad and work with players he has worked with before to try to bring some kind of a system into place.

Not picking players purely on form, but rather keeping the same players in over time has been a good strategy for several international teams.

It's also likely that Hodgson will play a fairly different style to our style under Pochettino at the Euros this summer. If not an absolute certainty. Perhaps he just sees Shaw as a better fit than Rose, who has been... inconsistent in the past and perhaps isn't the most tactically astute or flexible player.

Clyne over Walker though... That's a strange one for me.
