Hugo Lloris

If he wants to leave us, then he can **** off. I built him up since the first day that he arrived. I've continually supported him, not had a bad word to say about him. But, if he wants to jump ship then byeeeee. Another traitor in the midst.

Isn't he already a traitor then considering that he wanted to leave Lyon to come here in the first place?

I guess it just gets frustrating, attaching club and supporting emotions to players who move at the first sniff of something better.

How can you continue to be passionate about players who would rather be elsewhere?

Overall, I'm a supporter of Tottenham Hotspur, but it would be nice to just have the occasional player who remains loyal to the club. A player who can identify with the fans and who decides that he'll continue here. Then again, when that happens we tend to flog them abroad anyway; see Van Der Vaart.

Would be good though. So consequently, when a player elects to leave then, as their heart isn't with it here, I'd prefer them to just go. Rather have a player 80% as good but who plays with 100% heart, than a player who is 100% good but only 50% heart.

Can't blame him for wanting to further his career. If he does go then we should use the money to pinch Diego Alves from Valencia. Soldado can put in a good word.

It's always amazing though that these players don't think of maybe playing to a standard that sees their current club move forward. They make mistakes, cost the team points and then tell us that they're off as we couldn't achieve..the player themselves has been partly at fault for this failure to succeed.

Some players can be exempted from this; Bale couldn't have done much more last season.

And so it begins. I fear this type of article will surface a few times in the summer, but with the headline 'Sandro eyes Tottenham exit'
'Vertonghen eyes Tottenham exit'
And so on....

If he does go I'd be on the phone to Stoke right away with a bid for Butland. Promising keeper, and just as important, anothet Eniglishman in the squad to help achieve our quota

Totally agree with this and have said it many times myself. Modric was my prime example. I know he scored a few decent goals, but he could have scored so many more. At times he had a shot like a girl.
A few more goals to his tally with better shooting in that season and he would not have needed to look elsewhere to get CL football

If he wouldn't rather be elsewhere when he was at Lyon he wouldn't ever have played for us in the first place.

And he's just saying he will have to consider his options, not that he will be moving at the first sniff of something better.

Agree with your fears. Bound to happen. Quite a few of our players could have excellent World Cups too, won't help.

Something rubs me the wrong way with us phoning up Stoke to sign their second best goalkeeper. Butland is extremely young for a goalie and very inexperienced, would rather see us go for Begovic who is just young.

It's no different to you calling some of our players **** and wanting them sold really is it?

I would be on the phone to them for the same reason but for Begovic. Butland is too young to be our number one imo and Peter Coates has said they have a decision to make regards Butland as they don't want to hamper his career. Someone buying Begovic makes that decision for them.

He will be 27 by the start of the new season, played in the Premier League for 8 years and played numerous times for his national side as well as appearing in a World Cup. I would expect he would command a fee in the region of £10m and given that we would no doubt get more than that for Lloris, it would make sporting and financial sense whilst still giving us a secure feeling in terms of our goalkeeper.

A few weeks ago it crept into my mind that if we don't get CL this season then it'd be more than likely that Lloris and Vertonghen would want to leave which could see us slip behind.

Hugo's words sum up why I don't mind seeing a few feathers being ruffled this window, just as long as we finish in the top.

I actually don't see either of them kicking up a fuss and wanting to leave tbh. I just don't see them as those kind of people and nothing in their time with us indicates that they would display that behaviour. Neither of those players were in a rush to leave Lyon and Ajax despite the fact being that they had for a while been in a limiting cycle in that they were always going to challenge for the title and a CL place but in smaller leagues than the big 3 of Spain, England and Germany.

what's he actually said?

was no doubt asked - what will you do if Spurs don't qualify or the Champions League? to which he has replied :

"I've not thought about it. I must weigh things up at the end of the season"

I've not thought about it

hasn't actually said he'll leave if we don't qualify for the CL - id like to think that all our players have ambitions to play in that competition regularly and I wouldn't blame any one of them for wanting to be at a club which does that - what's important is that we, THFC, give our players the belief that we are heading in that direction by how we operate as a club - If we don't give them that belief then I can't really grumble should those not affiliated with the club (long term players/former youth etc look to move on. why should a foreign player 'waste time' at a club that aren't moving in the right direction?

Just seen Begovic has 2 years left on his deal in June so Stoke have a decision to make in terms of an extension. Personally, I don't think he will sign one as he will be 29 when it expires. He can be sold to someone who really wants him in the next 18 months or ride it out and take his pick at an age when he is entering his prime.

And people say we are ridiculous for targetting top four lol. This is what happens when quality players realise they only have limited years at the top before they start to decline and need to get into the top competitions that thier quality deserves.

What with Valdes leaving Barcelona they'll no doubt be sniffing around Lloris or perhaps ter Stegen. The cynic in me see's this as the carefully planted beginnings of a transfer request and a friendly wave to any possible suitors.

In his defence he's good enough to be playing in a team that should be vying for that trophy year in year out, and should we miss out on top 4 again I wouldn't begrudge him that level of success elsewhere.

Inevitable.

Verts will be off this summer too IMO.

Reinvest the Lloris and Verts money in buying quick direct British players to suit Timmeh's style.
