thats a confidence problem surely. he normally has decent distribution, clearly at this time he has had a crisis of confidence and belief
no, like most keepers he has a potential gaffe always up his sleeve

no, like most keepers he has a potential gaffe always up his sleeve
but he seems to have done it more recently, the frequency of it has gone up
even now he punches things he used to catch for fun
He hasn't been the same since his bang on the head.
one that hasnt been evident in the last in the last 3 years of his career aside from this poor patch? (1 month to 2 months? )
Worrying isn't it, although to be fair I didn't see that much of him for Lyon, only CL games so he might always have had this in him.
one would hope, I just feel he can (and should) do better, he's one of the senior players, captain of his national team, he should be leading from the front, not eroding confidence more by flapping at crosses and giving silly goals away
right now there isn't much between his performances and the ones which Gomes was hounded out for a few years back
"Let's say in England football is different than in France, notably in game speed," he told France Football. "No one is giving up too. I discovered that coming here.
"In England there is a lot of contact in the box, a lot of quality crosses. A lot of presence too. Here, the keeper is less protected than in France or in European competitions. It is important to know to fight, notably on corners.
"I have always heard I am not strong enough, I didn't have the right body for that league. That is no trouble to me, as long as you know your body and your qualities and drawbacks. Since I have been in England I didn't rush into body-building. I have gone on working as I did in France, but adapting to the different approach of the keeper's position.
"I always had a risky game. I have always tried to control my box, and even a bit further away. I want to be the boss of the area. Then, sometimes you get success, sometimes not."
Lloris had to bide his time when he first joined Tottenham as Brad Friedel remained first choice for a few months, but he insists there were positives he could take from the experience.
He said: "It was a good experience. After a difficult two-and-a-half months, things were back to order naturally.
"When you move to a new country there are a lot of things you have to adapt to. Language, culture. You have to find a new life equilibrium, settle in with your family, discover your team-mates and I was lucky to find some French-speaking players. But both on a human and sporting level, it allowed me to grow. I always kept a kind of serenity. Then, if it had lasted, maybe I should have made other choices."
I was thinking the same. I think the fact Lloris is now the French captain saves him from being dropped by us. He has made too many Gomes-like errors this season, even before his head injury. We probably would have dropped him long ago if we had a capable replacement instead of a 40plus player.
Definitely not.
Hugo is class. And he seems mentally strong. Let him continue playing and he'll regain his form.
this
agreed with everything
let me ask you though, why did you say he was mentally strong? i am curious to know what traits makes you think he is. i agree with you no doubt.....but i'd like to know your guage and how you got there.
For me it's how he reacts when he's made a mistake. It's the polar opposite to how Gomes reacted.
He made a rather silly looking mistake in the EL early last season when trying to dribble an opponent after getting a (poor) backpass. So, did he hide in his shell? Did he scare away from receiving the ball? Did he ****... He was his same self later that game and in the next game. Same when he's mistimed one of his rushes out of the box this season or when he's failed to get to a cross. Of course it dents his confidence, but only marginally so it seems. And he's still fearless. He still comes for crosses, he still comes out of the box to close down onrushing strikers.
This to me shows a lot of mental strength, he keeps playing his style. A style he's confident about mastering and confident about being the best style for him and the team. It's very assuring to see and I wouldn't drop him even if we had a much better backup than Friedel.
If he wants to leave us, then he can **** off. I built him up since the first day that he arrived. I've continually supported him, not had a bad word to say about him. But, if he wants to jump ship then byeeeee. Another traitor in the midst.
