Gedson Fernandes

I want him to get minutes. Hope mid week is good for him. I work with my Portuguese colleagues closely and one is a Benfica hardcore and he reckons he has huge potential but needs time.
 
He's looked pretty decent when I've seen him but needs more games - we'll have a lot of fixtures this season so he'll get games and we're weak in CM too.
 
I don't see it to be honest. At £15m he'd be worth a punt, but not for the reported £60m to buy him. Could have bought, Bruno Fernandes, Ziyech, Van Der Beek or probably even Grealish for that sort of money. At least its meant we can loan out Skipp to give him a decent run if games.
 
Thought he did alright against Chelsea. He's still young and still getting used to the team and league.

Seems to be a player there, will be interesting to see if he gets more game time going forward. Didn't manage to make a real "you must play me" statement against Chelsea, but at the same time did enough to be given more chances perhaps.

The option is just that, an option to sign him for that amount. We can always make a lower offer.
 
If he was an academy product I’d be suggesting a loan for him to get minutes to make a better assessment. Technique seems ok, gets knocked off the ball a bit and not sure if he’s a central or wise player yet. He may have been a sweetener for the Doherty deal.

I think he definitely has something about him, the challenge will be can we develop him and give him game time in the season ahead before we have to make our mind up on the purchase option?

I don't see it myself as he already is borderline matchday squad and looking at his personality I wouldn't say he looks like a 'grab the bull by the horns' type?, more a wallflower:)

...and whilst he's a different sort of player, Skippy will return next summer and I dont see GLC, Hojbjerg, Winks or Ndombele going anywhere (assuming TN continues to apply himself as he has been doing).

So that's a core group of 5 CMs which are likely to be ahead of him next year unless Gedson improves drastically, which increases to 6 if Sissoko stays (he'll be 32 next summer so we might try to get a fee for him potentially).

I also thought Gedson has 'something about him' - bit of pace, bit of energy, good enough on the ball...but I'm not really sure what he is and more importantly it doesnt seem that Jose has taken to him either
 
I must admit from what little i have seen from him for us i think he is going to be a player, however it seems he may not be in our long term plans ( i hope he is though)
