Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

hmmmm try..

"Hopefully Gareth stays"

"I would like to think he will stay"

"We need Gareth to stay"

"I'm confident Gareth will stay"

Tbh there's many ways to answer that question without informing people (continuously) that you have reassurances from the chairman he will stay. As i said i like him taking the Redknapp approach on this occasion and long may it continue.

wait, so are you simply bored by AVB giving the same response, or do you think there is something a bit more underhand and AVB wouldnt actually be too fussed if we sell Bale?

Re: Gareth Bale

AVB is playing a Redknapp like game which i'm happy about on this occasion. Continuously going on about Levy's assurances to put even more pressure on Levy to stick to his word and keep Bale. Keep it up Andre.

This is what i posted on the 20th June (page 288). Check that page onwards to see what i feel about it.

Re: Gareth Bale

Or he could just be repeating a line agreed with the club.

Any deviation from what he has previously said will be pounced on by the press, why give them a free story when I would imagine that we would rather keep this off the back pages?

Agreed.

For all we know Levy himself has specifically said to AVB to keep reminding the press that he has told him we are not selling, to remind them in no uncertain terms the stance he took with Modric, a player who was actively angling to leave and was still not sold.

and for all we know he didn't.

The fact is nobody knows but people choose to assume this because it's AVB. If Arry did exactly the same thing i'm sure the majority would feel he's doing it to basically back Levy into a corner which makes it far harder for Levy to sell...an insurance policy as i said before.

I look at everything from a neutral viewpoint and base things on the persons action/s and not the person. I see this as AVB adopting a tactic that Arry uses regularly and i'm happy he's doing it ON THIS OCCASION.

I think that people's opinion on this has nothing to do with AVB vs Redknapp and everything to do with the contents and consistency but really who cares? We'll only know if Bale is still a Spurs player at the close of the window and nothing our manager says between then and now will satisfy some fans or the media.

All of those are open to interpretation - saying "the chairman has said he won't be sold" is not

Re: Gareth Bale

Exactly, those responses are all highly subjective and would more likely increase speculation.

I also agree that it's quite likely the statement "The chairman has stated he will not be sold", is the official club line. It does not invite any follow up questions such as, 'what makes you so confident?', 'what evidence do you have for that?' etc.

Re: Gareth Bale

We don't want to be going into the new season with all this talk , our manager being constantly asked if Bale is staying or leaving. I just want to see one fecking pre season where things are done correctly.

Never mind AVB putting Levy in a spot with continually saying, "the chairman has given me assurances Bale will not be sold"

Only Bale can end this by stating he wants to stay.
.

Re: Gareth Bale

I don't mind what the media say really or what AVB says to media either. There is no way to really know what is going on anyway, and I would think whether Spurs have intentions to sell or not the same lines will be trotted irrespective. Like everybody I want Bale to stay, but as long as behind the scenes there is solidarity on the course of action then whatever will be will be.

IMHO he wont be going anywhere incidentally.

Re: Gareth Bale

If he goes, he goes but... the transfer fee would be atsronomical and if it is in the region of 60-80 million and the transfer went through well before the end of the window I would bite their hand off.

I think Bale his handling the situation very well.

I think he knows, like we do, that if a bid is accepted from Spurs he will move. Him coming out with some categorical statement could make him look like a real tit if Real comes in with a bid even Levy thinks is too good to turn down (whatever that is).

Bale seems honest and straightforward with the fans, that's all I ask really. I can take players leaving, but I fudging despise the fake badge kissing, PR-advisory-loyalty, empty promises attitude that so many players at so many clubs seem to display. Most of them would leave as quickly as "I don't give a brick" Ekotto if offered the right money from the right club and many of them already have.

you make excellent points.

In terms of managerial merry go round Ancellotti & Blanc are the final pieces in the puzzle.. sure lots of the big moves are going to happen soon.

Bale doesn't need to come out and say anything nor Levy I suppose.... AVB's made his comments and that should be good enough.

AVB's comments plus Bale's silence and non handing in of a transfer request all plays in our favour and makes the transfer more difficult for Madrid......We shall see very soon how much they want him, personally I would be surprised if they offered 85m and even more so if we turned that down.

Avb wants to keep his best player and add to what we have..... in the meantime us signing some quality and showing we are determined to make a step-up from ucl almost club to serious contenders would be a good idea and reinforce to Gareth that there is no rush to leave.

Good points all round except the last bit about BAE. He's as straightforward and honest as you can get - possibly even more so than Bale.
