Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

i dont agree with the first bit in bold. Levy made that statement before the melee with modric and madrid got publicised . so as far as we know Levy doesnt need for someone to stir the pot before he lets people know he means business.

AVB is the guy that once said that he wasnt interested in modric when he was at chelsea and then a few weeks later he says tottenham cant make up their mind about selling modric to him. I am sure this guy has told a porky or two. i mean he told the press that it was all lies that we were in negotiations with him to be the new boss...its not like professionals are immune cause of how old they are

i still think that AVB is distancing himself from the decision and putting levy on the spotlight.

Fair enough mate, won't argue with your opinion, it's yours after all.

I will say that Levy made the statement re: Modric because Chelski had heavily, heavily courted him that Xmas/January via the agent and the agent was repeatedly circulating stories. Barnet (Bale's agent) has been conspicuously quiet (for a reason-that no-one is going anywhere) thus Levy doesn't need to say anything.

As for AVB, I would say that he was getting information from the Chelsea DoF/Abramovich's people/Modric's agent via Chelski, that this was absolutely the case! Remember, the majority of our own supporters didn't believe Levy when he made 'the statement' that June, continuing to go on about his previous. I think AVB is actually very very precise and only says exactly what he knows he has been told as true. I don't think he purposely misinforms via the media, or uses them in big game playing (he'll have to turn 40 before he gets into that IMO hahahaha!)...

Re: Gareth Bale

Because it's not his decision to make.

but hold on. how come other managers are able to tell the press that someone will not be sold..and quite often use the word "WE" or even..."I"

how many times do you hear wenger say "the chairman has told me that he wont sell this player" or SAF ? these guys give a big fudge YOU to all comers and dont really deflect that often...even though its not really down to them

I don't know how this can even be debated if i'm being honest.

Re: Gareth Bale

BTW, here is the link for Levy's concrete stand on Modric in June 2011. Remember, Mamic (Modric's agent) was the prime-mover behind getting the player out of Spurs (a stone-cold fact) and that Barnet and Bale are absolutely on the same page/Barnet is happy his client is happy, thus why there is little need for Levy to make one of these statements DESPITE (as I say) tapping up of the sort which hasn't all hit the press!

but dont you see, you are throwing conspiracies around too!!! LOL...dodgy back room dealings in the dark before xmas, quiet agents, possible trust in the chelsea board room...sounds like a bit of a cloak and dagger thriller

possible fact is, on face value AVB told what looked like a bit of a fib now and again

that wasnt the first one

there was another...he said we wont be selling any KEY players in the offseason. he didnt even mention modric that time. just that we wont sell no matter the price, we dont need the money

i am actually stunned so few people remember this. i got a hard on when i heard that

Re: Gareth Bale

I don't know how this can even be debated if i'm being honest.

The FACT that this comment puts Levy as the driver/in the spotlight is beyond debate I agree. The statement that AVB is distancing himself from the decision is absolute opinion to my eye (AVB made it clear he didn't want Bale sold, Levy said he won't sell him, player, agent and management have had discussions, all good).

The implied reasons behind the comments, and their wording, is what's up for debate. I suspect you know that though.

No, I remember it well.
Levy learned a lot from the Berba/Keane debacle. he's still learning re: transfers, and I am delighted Baldini is in as it Levy giving up the reigns on being involved 'on the ground; to a large extent.
I was pilloried most of that summer for saying Levy was for real in that regard. But this was the statement which categorically put in print that he would not sell Luka Modric that summer, thus what I was referring to.

When did Levy say he wasn't going to sell Bale?

Ooh Mamic was the new Danchev for a while there wasn't he.

Re: Gareth Bale

no he made that before the season ended. i remember this clearly. it was a quote in a match day guide

i don't remember this personally and if that is the case you have a far better memory than me mate :p

the link you posted in response to Steff doesn't mention anyone by name - the statement im refering to is one where Levy explicitly told both Chelsea and Luka Modric that the player would not be sold, in fact i remember both yourself and I were probably the only two posters on the board at the time who weren't losing their brick over the rumors because we were so taken by Levy's defiant message

The paranoia on this forum RE: AVB and Bale has been hilarious today.

We are clearly not selling Bale this summer. Levy and AVB are on the same page. There is no need for one to put pressure on the other. AVB wants to work with Bale, and thinks he will have a better chance of success with Bale here. Levy wants to keep Bale, and has proved with Modric he won't sell just because the media try and engineer a move or even if the player kicks up a massive fuss. Why does anyone think Levy is going to have suddenly changed from the Modric episode? Of course he hasn't.

Levy also made a statement in the programme saying no key players would be sold this summer, before the end of the season. AVB doesn't have an ulterior agenda here. He doesn't need to shift anything. Bale just isn't going this summer. It's that simple.

Not only that but the rumours are building that we may sign Villa & Paulinho within the first week of the window opening which would equal the most exciting summer since Klinsmann etc in 94

Agreed.

I don't understand why they can't be in a mutually beneficial relationship. One has to be out to get the other. It's not like they don't have any common goals.
