Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

i have a sneaking feeling that Chelsea are going to seriously unsettle Bale and Spurs this summer

no love lost between Levy and Abramovich, Mourinho and AVB no longer get on, i can see Mourinho and the russian making massive Bale bids even if they know Levy will not sell to Chelsea. Even if they dont get the player, they can cause untold problems via the press and rumour mill.

Barnett is Cole's agent and look how dirty that deal was when Cole moved from red scum to blue scum. Can see him being prepared to create chaos on Bale's behalf too if needs be

Bale is the identikit Mourinho type of forward/attacking player......big, powerful, fast, an out and out match winner. watch this space

they have lukaku for that. and i don't think they're competing with us for 4th place next season.
if they want to win the league they would go further unsettling either Manchester clubs

fudge me give it a few weeks and we could be up to 300m...

Yes madrid we know you have lots of money........ but is ronaldo a happy bunny??????? do you have a manager???????

triffic club madrid.....club officials upset after higuain stated after last match he wants to leave......same club officials engineering bale to hand in transfer request.

Also daily star reckon levy will meet with Perez soon.....oh to be a fly on the wall.

That made me LOL like Benny when I read about the Real Madrid unhappiness with the Higuain comment.

Re: Gareth Bale

Put the full £100m into the NDP and replace him with Siggy.

I'm sure it's an option being considered by some of the money, feck football, men. But it could also lead to AVB resigning , players like, Lloris , Verts and Sandro wanting out . Hey, that's another 50 million plus for them three , we easily could be halfway to paying for the new Stadium with that sell off ..

Re: Gareth Bale

I think this whole Bale saga will show us what Levy really wants for this club. If Levy sees Spurs as a business organization that only wants profit, then we should sell Bale for the maximum money we can get now. But if Levy sees Spurs as a football club that is supposed to win trophies, then we should not sell Bale for whatever money being offered for him.

Well, the profit that Levy and Lewis are going to make from the club will mostly be made when the club is sold on in the future, not on a year to year basis.

We could sell Bale and improve Spurs. Just as we could keep Bale and improve Spurs.

If Levy wants to make more money, than he will do whatever he feels will help Spurs be successful. I don't see how selling Bale on our terms would be a lack of ambition. In fact i would see it as quite the opposite. That we believe we can improve on our team with the money that the sale of Bale would generate.

In fact i would venture the opposite conclusion. A decision to not sell Bale at any price would be to the detriment of ambition.

Re: Gareth Bale

It's merely an investment for Joe Lewis but I don't think you can say that about Levy. He's so heavily involved in the football side that he'll want the club to sucess out of professional pride if nothing else.

The objectives of maximising shareholder wealth and making the club as sucessful as possible should be closely aligned. The conflicts arise when assessing what is an acceptable level of risk. For example, signing a player for a certain position may seem obvious from a football perspective but it maybe financially unacceptable because of shareholders required minimum levels of profit or maximum losses for a certain period.

If shareholders are happy with the returns they're getting then why take on more risk. Arsenal look like a prime example in recent seasons.

I made a poll in the transfer rumours section about how much money people would accept for Bale. Small sample size, but so far only about 30% of the people answering said that he shouldn't be sold for any price. Over half of the votes so far have been towards accepting £100m or less for him.

With that in mind I think it would be pretty ridiculous to claim that Levy doesn't see Spurs as football club that is supposed to win trophies based on if he sells Bale or not.

Levy and Lewis want the biggest profit possible, but for now at least their goals and our goals are aligned.

Success brings profit - its like any walk of life and any business. By being successful you bring profits and maximsing shareholder wealth etc. It all links together.

Maybe this is the fan within me but if I was Lewis putting in a measly 50m, when I have billions, would be a drop in the ocean especially when that could increase the profit eventually by even 100m - by getting CL and being successful.

unfortunately there's no guarantee in football that an investment such as the example you suggest (50m - in one window i presume?) would bring success, let alone sustained success which would be required to see a return on his investment - especially when you consider we are in a league already bloated with cash rich sides (two sugar daddy clubs and two established elite who make big money in a more 'legitimate' manner)

Lewis/Levy/Enic - it isn't logical from their point of view to pump in their own money in an attempt to bring success on the field (and with it financial success off of it) 50m is a lot of money, more than a quarter of our annual turnover - how long would it take for them to see that return? CL qualification brings in 40m on average? we've already seen from the year we had in the competition that that doesn't translate to 40m profit - far from it as outgoings also rise so the money gets eaten up, so from an investment point of view the numbers just don't add up against the risk

it's much more logical/safe for them to build the club up to a point where we perform to our best financially and then re invest that money in to the club. which is what we do tbf

Why would the profit increase by £100m? If you mean the profits spurs make, there is nothing to back that up. If you mean the value of the club, regular investment would damage the value of the club.

I don't know anything about finances, but I think Lewis does.
