Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

Is there any reason to carry on supporting Spurs if that's the case? Maybe we should come back when we're no longer on hold.

Re: Gareth Bale

Out of interest, say we dont have the cash to propel us to a top four position and that we have actually reached our potential (until a new stadium is built) - is there any reason to keep him? By that I mean is there any reason to keep a 60-80m asset when you cant even afford to fulfil any potential that there may be? By selling Bale some may argue that it will help us to fulfil and exceed our potential.

I love Bale and want him to stay etc but a) the guy does deserve CL football and b) He may have played his best football for us given the calibre of players he is playing with and the only way he will get better with us is with better forward players.

I don't see why Bale can't play better football next season. If he wants to be one of the best in the world i think with his drive, ambition, technical and physical abilities he could get there.

What he needs to add is consistency. He can just as easily work on that here with our players as he could with Real Madrid or anyone else.

I don't see the need to write off our chances even with a smaller net spend. It's more about sensible buying when you are a club in our position than it is about massive big money signings. We keep the players that we have, improve on our early season form and there's no reason we can't hit 70+ points again next season.

Re: Gareth Bale

You talk about getting these players like we could pluck them from a tree, he'll we haven't managed to even persuade leandro to sign or his club to sell after about three fecking seasons of trying! (and he isn't exactly a top striker, though he potentially could be) It isn't that simple, yes well have money but could we get the top quality players needed to make up for the loss of bale? Its no certainty that we could.

I don't think persuading Leandro is the problem ;)

There's a number of strikers we've been linked with in the £15-20 million bracket. I think any one of them would do, then add a wide forward and someone to complement Sandro and Dembele.

Strikers: Leandro, Osvaldo, Soldado, Negredo to name some that are attainable for us if we REALLY want them. Maybe even Higuain or Villa. I emphasize really because we either have to pay a record fee or high wages. Maybe even both.

Wide forwards: Bernard, Belhanda, Turan etc. There's a long list of players that can play this position, basically give AVB his pick within reason, ie. no Hulk or Willian type fees.

Creative midfielder: Loads of names mentioned in the rumour forum. Surely one of them would want to come to us.

By top player I don't mean someone that would walk into any team in the world, but someone who would improve our best XI. If we can find them 25 or younger they can develop with the team and we are almost guaranteed to make a hefty profit if they turn out to be great. In the mean time they will help us improve the standing of the club because that's what it's all about in the longer term. I couldn't give a fudge about which players come and go as long as we continue to improve.

Re: Gareth Bale

One issue for him might be that he has blossomed into this phenomenon who has managed to carry us for most of a season, without actually having a very well-defined team role. He's been the guy we give the ball to and then stand back and watch while he does something wow. He might have some readjustment to do in a side that doesn't boast Parker, Defoe or bad Adebayor.

I think his team role is to make himself available for the ball and be the focal point of our attacks.....not much difference from barca/messi.....

yep its shameful that defoe & ade are spectators just like us for bale's brilliance...... Holtby & gylfi will improve next season because I said so....
personally if i was ade or defoe i would be ashamed at bale's goal tally and impact considering they are strikers.

still we need some hunger and vibrancy up front.

heard Glen Hoddle on talksport this morn - he reckons gareth would rather move to united/city & not madrid.......also did anyone pick up neymar's dig at real madrid..........i dont want to join a club who change there manager every year.......

Come on Bale stay...you know you want to.

Wenger: I made a huge error by not signing Bale
By MIKE McGRATH
Published: 03rd June 2013

ARSENE WENGER has finally confessed he made a “huge mistake” by not signing Gareth Bale.

The Arsenal boss turned down the chance to land the Welsh wizard before he joined arch-rivals Tottenham from Southampton in 2007.

Spurs snapped him up for £5million and turned the young left-back into a world-class attacking midfielder who is now rated at a staggering £80m.

Wenger admitted: “We didn’t take him as we had Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy and didn’t want another left-back.

“I must confess it was a huge mistake as he can play in midfield. He struggled at the start at Tottenham, then they moved him to midfield and he has done exceptionally well.

“The career of a player sometimes depends on playing in the right position.”

Bale, 23, is now the hottest property in world football and is wanted by Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Emirates Marketing Project.

The Wales star was also crowned double Footballer of the Year after smashing 31 goals for club and country last season. And Wenger insists Bale will become one of the top five players on the planet.

The Frenchman added: “He has the potential. Now it depends on his consistency at the top level and injuries.

“If you look at Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi — the two head figures of world football — they have fantastic health and don’t miss a game.

“Bale has power, pace and direct play in his game.

“I still think he is a typical flank player and they are so difficult to find. I think he is too young to move to the middle.”

Wenger scouted Bale and Theo Walcott when they were Saints teenagers, but opted to sign only Walcott.

The England winger, 24, joined Arsenal in a £12m deal and a year later Spurs snapped up Bale.

Wenger had previously played down the Gunners’ failure to snap up the Welshman.

In February, he said: “At some stage, we were on about taking the two if possible.

“But we could get Walcott and I am very happy. You’d be amazed by the number of players we should have signed. Every club misses players.”

Wonder how many teams who still regrets not buying Bale when he was at Southampton. It was a big coup for us when we signed him as he was a highly-regarded player even then. But ofcourse, we had to wait for 3 years before he managed to show us his real quality. Not sure many teams would have been patient with him for that long. Hope he will repay us for that by staying with us long term.

There is alot to be said for patience these days......managers/players .........peeps are so quick to judge them as flops too quickly......

for all we know in 2 years time A Carrol could be pl top scorer in a few years... cheeky bid to pool?????

Re: Gareth Bale

If we can't get Bale to sign an extension, then I think 75m+ is a very decent sum given the amount it would depreciate next summer even if Bale improves.

BUT how good it is really depends on whether we could simultaneously sign the ideal replacements without their wages and transfer fees rising as soon as clubs realize we have money. Like I've said before, imo a trio of Lamela (RWF, stylistically similar to Bale but younger and cheaper at ~25m+, and if we got Baldini I think he would become gettable), Bernard (LAM, ~20m), and one of Draxler or Dzagoev (CAM, ~25m+) would improve us SUBSTANTIALLY in terms of creativity for roughly that sum in transfer fees. I think we might even be able to challenge if we got in a good forward and maybe a LB with the extra TV money. To make up for the wages, we can try to sell or release our older or more senior players (Gallas, Friedal, Defoe, Parker, Dawson, Benny, Huddlestone etc) who must be taking in relatively high amounts due to their seniority at Spurs.

However, the problem is that this is all easier said than done, to put it mildly. We/Levy struggle to finish even one deal within the transfer window half the time if we can't trigger their contracts (usually it's at least two windows, for Leandro you can add another dozen to that), so how are we going to get a hot prospect like Lamela within the tiny window of time that the end of Bale's saga would leave us? Much less THREE big players? Remember how Berbatov left us with freaking Frazier Campbell???

If I were Levy, I'd be preparing behind the scenes for Bale's departure for the sole reason that we're not left hanging in the air with a big chunk of money and the smell of desperation. We have to lay the groundwork for the players we want; if they're not gettable, Bale can't be sold at any cost since that money will just evaporate anyways.

Genuine question; do you not think Levy is perfectly clear as to what he is going to do? Furthermore, do you not believe that Gareth Bale would not be happy to be here for next season? If not, why? What has been said recently which would have changed your opinion?

Re: Gareth Bale

i have a sneaking feeling that Chelsea are going to seriously unsettle Bale and Spurs this summer

no love lost between Levy and Abramovich, Mourinho and AVB no longer get on, i can see Mourinho and the russian making massive Bale bids even if they know Levy will not sell to Chelsea. Even if they dont get the player, they can cause untold problems via the press and rumour mill.

Barnett is Cole's agent and look how dirty that deal was when Cole moved from red scum to blue scum. Can see him being prepared to create chaos on Bale's behalf too if needs be

Bale is the identikit Mourinho type of forward/attacking player......big, powerful, fast, an out and out match winner. watch this space

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/tottenham-hotspur

Well thats a done deal then. If Bale cant come out and commit to Spurs then just f*ck off

That story's a week old, isn't it? The agent fought shy of saying they'd welcome a tapping-up, but said something to the effect that they'd be happy to have a dialogue with Real if Tottenham were to agree a fee. There's been nothing but silence on our side, so the BBC are just rehashing it, only this time leaving out the quotes.

Re: Gareth Bale

More reports in the press now that perez would be happy to go to 100m........

fudge me give it a few weeks and we could be up to 300m...

Yes madrid we know you have lots of money........ but is ronaldo a happy bunny??????? do you have a manager???????

triffic club madrid.....club officials upset after higuain stated after last match he wants to leave......same club officials engineering bale to hand in transfer request.

Also daily star reckon levy will meet with Perez soon.....oh to be a fly on the wall.

Re: Gareth Bale

Bale could do more for this club by being sold than he could playing for us despite his super human efforts. He is a legend
