Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

Poor first touch, no upper body strength (gets knocked off the ball way too easily), poor passing accuracy, loses possession, crap in the air and doesn't score many goals. Amazed he has the reputation he has to be honest. Berbatov was 10x the player for us. I reckon we can do much better in the summer window.

hahahahaaaaaaaa

How is this even a discussion? Some of you seem to be asking for the perfect striker. We're not getting the perfect striker because he'll be playing for better teams. He won't really be giving us a second look.

Adebayor isn't our best player but he's probably our least replaceable player at the moment. He's vital to how the team play, even when he's playing poorly. And his 'brick scoring record' involves a nearly 1 in 2 goal ratio.

Redknapp has had almost 4 years now since arriving to buy a strikeforce to replace Berbatov and Keane. Either Redknapp and Levy are brick at scouting strikers or we don't have the financial package to compete for good strikers. Maybe both. But I have seen absolutely zero indication that we will be able to go out there and get a better striker. Or even one of similar ability.

And basically all strikers will go through patches where they don't score.

Obviously we can't destroy our wage structure for him, paying him 170K would lead to major problems. Get that figure to a more respectable level and its an absolute no brainer imo.

It should be as simple as...

1. Will anyone better become available?

2. Can we afford what he will cost?

Also he has that slight innate arrogance of expecting to win which we need at this club. Though if he will always put in the shift needed to back that arrogance up is another question.

More a YES than a NO right now, but i could be swung either way.

Im quite suprised by how many of you are a No or on the fence. I think he has proven what he brings to the team, and we need it. We have struggled for many summers now to get in a top striker, and he is a top striker. If he goes you will soon see what you are missing. Im 100% behind signing him, even on 100k a week.

hahahahaaaaaaaa

This. I'm sorry but anyone who thinks Adebayor has been anything less than a very good acquisition doesn't understand football imo...

I'd love to hear the players 'much better' than him who we could sign this summer.

I agree with this despite my slight reservations about making a decision to sign him now.

Without Parker i still think we would be close-ish to where we are (despite being completely proven wrong about just how good he has been i have to admit) but without Ade we would still have crouch, 12mil less in the bank and be GHod knows where.

Also Ade's "name" is/was big enough to give everyone a lift, Parkers i don't think was.

Only depends on wages and price, in my opinion. I'd love to have him in our team, but he's definitely not wort 170k a week or some silly transfer fee around ?ú20-30M.

Absolutely YES.

Has totally transformed our attacking dynamic and taken us up a level. Best striker at the club by some distance.

If a deal can be done, it must be done

Absolutely agree. He has been a top-class addition, and actually has potential to be even more prolific than he has been. It would be extremely pleasing to see hiim signed up, and to add an additional top-class striker to back up what he has added to our overall play. Also very impressed with his superb work rate and his attitude.

There are so many times when I see Ade running back to help defend and put pressure on opposition players. He understands that everyone has to get their hands.. err, feet dirty in order to be successful. That extra bit of pressure, applied at the right moment, can cause the other team to lose possession or make a poor forced pass. If only he weren't offsides so often, even when he's on!

I voted yes. But not for 100k or more a week. He has definitely improved our team. His movement is excellent, is a threat in the air and as Michael Holding would like to say he has plenty of pace.

just thinking out aloud here but i think maybe there is a case to be made that Adebayor, who although has been a very important player for us, is up-gradable - he started with us on fire and since then has trailed off a bit - still putting in a shift but not to level he has shown he is capable of - i think any above average target man, advanced forward (whatever you want to label it as) could possibly provide a similar level of importance - because it's the role he plays rather than him himself which is important to the team.

we don't have another striker who can play that role so i don't think we can say for certain if he is the best we can get in that position. if we had a decent back up target man who we could bring in now and again - it would help us get a better picture of Adebayors true worth to the side (as an individual).

dunno if that makes any sense, probably not :)

that said id still be delighted if we signed him because this season so far has proved that he fits in with the team and even when not particularly playing well he still plays a pivotal role in our attacking play

I'll tell you why we need a player like Bad Ade in the premier league.

CBs are becoming more and more physical nowadays. They are stronger, bigger and quicker than they were back in the day. Long gone are the days of big lumps heading balls away. Now the CB position is all about athleticism combined with brute force. Players like Jones, Samba, Kaboul, Kompany, Alex, Cahill are all big and nippy. Small quick strikers don't really tend to have a field day against CBs anymore as their not running past big lumps, they are getting outmatched for pace and outmatched in the air.

More and more teams are utilising specialist holders rather than box to box destroyers. This means that these players often act as a third centreback and can pounce on loose balls from clearances or keeper hoofs that are not reaching the forwards.

Bad ade allows us to physically compete with these athletic CBs and retain the ball under high pressure surrounded by players. If we had defoe or pav in that position we would never have the possession stats that we currently enjoy.

Spot on

I really, really like the bloke Adebayor has become. He didn't seem to be a good guy in the past.

As I've posted before, I think the Angola incident has altered his entire outlook on life, hence the almost ever present smile.

He is a terrific striker, but I can't see a repeat of the RVP stamp now.

That's a good thing, right?
