Djed Spence

My view on Spence is that he's still got it all to prove, but needs to be given a chance to do so.......and in his preferred position, right back.

My concern though, is that he may not be suited to the way that Ange plays his full-backs. My guess is that Ange and his coaches are helping him to adapt first, before they expose him more. That was part of why he signed the new deal.
As opposed to Porro who looks good offensively but cannot defend for toffee.

If Ange truly thought Spence was not a suitable right back then it was foolhardy to have offered him a new contract

Something is not right. I'm guessing we needed to protect the values of both Emerson and Spence. We sold one when his stock was quite high, whilst we're slowly rebuilding the other ones stock so we get something back.

Then we buy the new LB and have 2 natural players for both full-back roles, and the midfielder Gray as utility.
That combined with injuries and a lack of match fitness probably is probably most of it.

I think the way he plays is fine for Ange ball. But he's much more similar to Udogie than Porro. Particularly with Romero missing part of the thinking may be that Porro's passing was seen as important enough to make up for his fatigue.

I think that's overly harsh on Porro defensively.

There's a difference between not being suitable and needing time to adjust. Spence hasn't had that long working under Ange and these coaches and also has been injured for some of that time.

Surely Spence Can see he is not wanted. he plays Davies if VDV is fit which makes sense. But now Davies is playing LCB he has used Gray. It makes little sense to me. When he has played he has look good.

The Spence thing is one of the biggest blots on Ange, everyone is injured, we just gave him a new contract. Give him a fudging chance. The window in the summer only looked decent if the youngsters were going to get any game time. Play Gray in midfield and Spence at fullback and see how they do. The league is gone this year anyway. We are coming out of this injury crisis deep in midtable, there are many better teams than us. I don't mind waiting for a young team to improve but only if the youngsters actually play.

Seems to have been in a prickly mood today judging by his Spence and Reguilon comments
Ange often gives the tough love comments about players, even those who have done exceptionally well. I wouldn't read too much into the comments, but if he doesn't really feature over this next month then he clearly isn't in Anges plans....

What I'm hoping is that it's been an intentional approach to ensure Spence is at 100% fitness to then really kick off his career.

Because it looks like some of the decisions / things said could almost come off as spiteful at this stage. At least the mean ol' bastard man Conte was clear in his words (and actions) than what could come across as leading a player on in Ange's case...

The contract decision was a surprise and the positive momentum from that seems a long time ago. Whilst we don't have the stats / fitness analysis, anyone can see Porro is knackered so it's probably time to actually use what we have.

I think it is, you can't and won't stop speculation but for me the new contract and indication he has a future is key in this, that and he has in part been reintroduced into the squad. Recently set back by injury and now he is back, for me its likely a waiting for the time (I am frustrated at the wait as I really think we have something in him).

Proof will be in the eating I suppose

You should have a job in media mate, the way you post this tweet without posting the rest to make it sound 100 times worse than it is for those who don’t click it and read the rest on twitter.

Was too lazy to copy and post multiple links and assumed people would see the “(cont)” at the end and click the Tweet (or whatever it’s called nowadays!) to see the rest themselves tbh.

Here’s the section of press conference if you haven’t already heard exactly what was said straight from the horses mouth.

Unless the contract was about not losing him for nothing, in which case it's just dragging it out and costing more in wages etc

Whilst it could be the players getting better by not playing syndrome, I agree in thinking there's a player there, I saw a lot of Spence at Forest and the potential was obvious.

I just don't like the potential feeling of him regretting joining us, and then in addition regretting the contract because it worked out neither for the club nor player. At the minute, little things here and there seem like they've been designed to deepen the regret, ie getting readied for a sub and then calling it off, or Gray getting more minutes at RB, perhaps I'm being dramatic...

Yeh agree with that, I hope this is part of a well thought out plan

How will he ever attain match fitness if he never starts a match?

What was the point of signing a new contract when even the 18 year old midfielder starts ahead of him? Yet when he came on against Coventry when everyone else was struggling he excelled and scored a crucial goal.

I just do not get it. He is not included in the Europa league squad, does not start in the league cup and does not start in the league when Porro is rotated. Yet when we saw him in preseason he was definitely one of our better players.

Magic or sub appearances would be my guess.

As has been speculated on, perhaps not fully fit. Or perhaps Ange just rates Gray more than we think.

We'll see in the course of December. I'm guessing he'll get his chances, then up to him to take them.
